Artificial intelligence will scan old data, it will not provide new ideas or new designs.
Don't fall for the "you must adapt AI or it will be too late or someone else will do it" false narrative sold by investors.
If you haven’t heard, today PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome has been renamed to Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome. This change reflects that this is not a reproductive “problem” but a whole body disease.
For reference, from the WHO website:
(Text: PCOS affects an estimated 10-13% of reproductive-aged women. It is estimated that up to 70% of women with PCOS worldwide do not know they have this condition.)
The Lancet link about shift to PMOS. Spread this to everyone who works in health care now. People with uteruses and ovaries are in agony - yes, the whole body suffers a crisis every fkn month - and health care should help
Something important not yet mentioned: there is evidence that PMOS is not sex specific. AMAB people can have similar metabolic and hormonal symptoms as AFAB people (insulin resistance and weight gain, high levels of certain hormones, reproductive issues, and early-onset male pattern baldness), particularly those closely biologically related to AFAB people who’ve already been diagnosed.
It’s not an official diagnosis yet and more research needs to be done. But acknowledging that it’s a hormonal and metabolic disorder, not solely a problem with ovaries themselves, is a big step.

I love how Zohran Mamdani is wearing a suit everywhere. And if he has anything else he puts it ON TOP of the suit. A basketball jersey. A high-vis vest. All worn over the suit. He’s like the mayor character in a cartoon who’s always dressed as The Mayor. If I didn’t know who he was and he biked past me in NYC I’d be like holy shit was that the mayor
Not to bring the serious to a very fun post, but this reaction is exactly what Mamdani is working for with his image, because in a very real way the most effective way for him to be The Mayor is if he looks like The Mayor.
This is a man who is VIOLENTLY aware that when it comes to conservatives, he is a Muslim first, a Brown Man second, an Immigrant third, a Socialist fourth, and a human a very distant fifth, if considered at all. He was also a young adult during the Obama Years and will have seen Republicans rip Obama to shreds for wearing a tan suit instead of a dark one and use literally ANY excuse they could to try and degrade his image.
Despite the fact that a mayor who wears a T-shirt and jeans might "seem more approachable" in the eyes of the average American, Zohran Mamdani knows that someone with his profile fundamentally cannot get away with that the way his White colleagues can. He has instead put in the effort to look professional and BE approachable, because not only does it make it easier for him to reach and represent his constituents, it forces everyone, including both his opponents and establishment Democrats, to engage with the work he is doing instead of judging his image. The fact that he is always seen in a suit and is recognisably The Mayor is, while also something he has fun with, a deliberate choice to ensure he is as inarguably A Professional Politician To Be Taken Seriously. The added humour of e.g. the hi-vis is a bonus, only achievable because he works so hard to Look Like The Mayor.
Adding these tags from @haunted-stranger-garden bc they illustrate this brilliantly
oh my god no wonder Kiriona was so mean/agressive. she's literally a construct, she's been through hell, she wakes up and gets kissed by "Harrow" but it's not Harrow, it's something puppeting her body? and that something is protected by her only friends? who are okay with it controlling Harrow's body? who suddenly are together even though one of them died? Palamedes sacrificed himself and Camilla somehow managed to bring him back but when Gideon did it, Harrow erased her and left her behind? she's been used her entire life and now her only friends want to use her body again.
Yeah sure Tumblr is a hellsite but I know someone who wrote a fanfic in the 1990s that someone else didn’t like, so when she was selling printed copies of the zine with the story in it out of her hotel room at a convention, this other woman STOOD IN FRONT OF HER DOOR TO REFUSE PEOPLE ACCESS. Because the story featured a ship she disliked. And I feel like somehow, 10,000 Tumblrs still can’t compare to that level of Extra.
Your periodic reminder that the technology and the scale of distribution changes, the basic impulse to fandom wank does not
I’ve actually heard about this event [or a similar event, which I can believe] from someone who was trying to get into the room to either buy the zine, or visit with the writer, or just see what was going on [idr]. Apparently it was quite the talk of the bar that night, and resulted in several heated [re: drunken] debates over whether Door Stander was violating Writer’s free speech, or if removing Door Stander would have violated Door Stander’s free speech.
Me, at the time, a 19yo with very little understanding of the law: “I mean…was it?”
Fandom Friend, who was a 40-something lawyer: “I’ll tell you the same thing I told everyone in that bar. No one was violating anyone’s free speech. Bitch was just being rude, and worse, obnoxious about it. You ever act like that in public, be aware you’re not changing anyone’s opinion. You’re just giving them a brand new opinion about you.”
It was a very formative conversation in my young adulthood.
Same person also told me to never mix coke and acid. Which was also pretty solid advice.
"My life is in your hands." (C4E22)
And mine in theirs 🤲 This scene but draw them like 2009 Twelfth Night trio promo pic (two-third of that picture anyway)
There is something poetic and compelling about Teor dying during what is ultimately a period of massive success for our protagonists. They rescue Mara, plant Wick in the inner circle of the Sundered Houses, and pull the play off without a hitch! The Convergence was, objectively, a huge win for the new budding revolution. When he was introduced in the Overture, no character, even among the other veterans, held the weight of the failure of the Falconer's Rebellion to the degree that Teor did. Some quotes from or about him in the first two episodes include: "Work with Loza concluding in a series of skirmishes that are merely pale echoes of earlier, greater causes," "We take up contracts here and there, help where we can, but it's been hard finding one place to be," and "I don't know [the torn banner]'ll ever fly again. But I know of everyone who would know if the time ever came." His thoughts on Thjazi are also an echo of this grief over failure "This man deserved more. More fanfare, more people next to him, just more[...] How did this man that has done so much for so many far beyond himself, how did he meet an end like this?" Obviously, we don't fully know yet how the other characters will treat his memory and how that might change what he represents. But in the immediate aftermath, it's easy to see Teor as someone who carried the full weight of the failure of the Falconer's Rebellion until it was truly time for a new rebellion to begin. That he did, in fact, fulfill Loza's prediction for him. That he is the one who knew when the time came. That he, in his heart, held the banner until it was time for it to fly again, at which point he let it go

one of my favorite things about campaign 4 is the un/intentional allegory of dol-makjar, a city of orcs who can see in the dark because of darkvision, getting overtaken by humans who "wield the light" and have absolutely no darkvision. and it got really hammered down in episode 31 when the sons of the dawn and the grey tower guard were surrounded by magpie orcs and the wind snuffed out all the lights.
Welcome to our fair city. I hope that you enjoy your stay.
absolute fucking banger. i'll be forever thankful that brennan made araman and campaign 4 as a love letter to the orcs of lotr, the first and greatest victims of sauron.
Damn, the confirmation from Mara that the plan always had been for Thjazi to escape. Mara was meant to be in the Tenebral Reaches and Thjazi was meant to escape, and it was only because she wasn't that Thjazi realised he had to let the execution take place and let himself be killed.
He said, "Not you, anyone but you" when he saw Azune was the Arcane Marshal assigned to scan him, so he realised what position this would put him in. He knew Azune would immediately be arrested if he escaped. But - he only realised he had to actually die when he saw Mara. So there were a few minutes in there - standing on that stage, joking around with his brother over their lunch plans - that he was fully prepared to snap the glyph and put Azune in the noose instead.
So don't worry, Azune! Thjazi didn't let himself be killed just to save you! He was ready for you to die in his place from the moment he realised it was going to be you doing the scan!
the most valueable skill a white leftist can ever learn is how to take an L with grace.
You gotta be able to take an L if your moral and ethical belief systems are to be capable of guiding you. Otherwise you just have an idealized self where you get really mad and scared when anyone points out it isn't actually you. How the fuck are you gonna walk the walk if you can't handle being told when you are not, in fact, actually walking it
you cannot just socially transition into being a good person you are going to have to settle for being a messy human being who has to try and fail and keep trying to get better like everyone else. yeah even when it's embarassing and sucks for you a lot.
Ya gotta learn to earnestly and honestly say "Oh shit, my bad."
And to then end the sentence there, not launch into a paragraph of explanation or panicked super-apology.
So different, yet kindled all the same.
I’ve loved their dynamic ever since they first met, and the last couple of episodes have only made me love them more 😮💨

Mel Brooks on taking studio notes:
And I give you a huge hug. Yeah, I just grab you and I hold onto you and hold on as long as I can. Come back, if you can.
