Stuck for how to name your House OCs/fic background characters?
Second: does the name have something to do with war? A famous general, a mythological figure who won a battle, or literally just the word for war in another language? Great, you're sorted.
Third: pick a name used in an early modern play/poem, or better yet put two of them together. Or just choose a Babylonian royal.
Fourth: your choice of doomed mythological children or jr martyr saints. If this person could be a background character in Ender's Game, you've probably got the right vibe.
Fifth: could this person be a background character in Jeeves and Wooster or get murdered in Poirot? Jolly good.
Sixth: if the name appears in the works of Plato or could be used for a character in a 20th century British novel, you're good to go.
Seventh: doomed and romantic. If in doubt, pick a character or location connected with the goddess Venus or a name made up for an 18th/19th century poem.
Eighth: pick a name from the Acts of the Apostles. Or Celtic monasticism. Or Amish romance.
Ninth: obscure Catholic saints. Stick together two names from the Iliad. Grab a particularly moody word from Mozart's Lachrymosa.
