Sometimes, I become so incredibly incensed because I remember that my mother attended a Swiss boarding school (the Leysin American School 🙃) because my grandparents wanted to give her the best possible chance to succeed in life, and she dropped out to come back to fucking Texas for a BOY whom she later married as a "project to fix him", and when she later realized she did not have the tools or patience to singularly "fix" an abusive crackhead, she then gave up her opportunity to pursue a higher education to marry my father who inducted her into religious zealotism and convinced her to join a church that told her to let her baby boy (me!) die because "it is god's will that the disabled be eradicated" due to their belief in absolute predestination... my grandfather obviously got unofficial custody of me for a years while she and my father dealt with their religious psychosis.
To put it into perspective how fucking atypical this situation was, my grandparents were both highly educated liberals with multiple graduate degrees each. And this was during a time in which that was very uncommon. Obviously, they were also quite affluent to be able to send their four kids to a damn Swiss boarding school. All this to say: my mother had every opportunity in the world to succeed in life, and she ended up becoming an anti-intellectual christian nationalist that submits to fascist ideology. And she also took a metaphorical crowbar to my own inheritance that my grandfather tried to leave me in order to make exorbitant contributions to trump's three political campaigns AND to her fucking cult of a church.
She happily lives as white-trash now despite being a literal heiress that went to Swiss boarding school, and she made double sure that her children would never see a dime of her family's money because "trump the messiah deserves it more!" Her mother had a PhD in history. She wrote a thesis about the French Revolution and class inequality. It still sits in the library at my university to this day. Her father had a master's degree in religious philosophy!
