The main joke here is that Ava also refers to Kain as shishou tbh
Ava is really good at inadvertently causing spiritual damage to Kain (See: LunAvaNoct love triangle peaceful and respectful resolution, but also Ava making him confront the question of how old he is and making it clear that she sees him as nearing his forties) but when she IS trying to hurt his ego for the greater good (Making him abandon that godforsaken outfit) he will stick to his guns. He doesn't believe a word she says about how hideous his modern clothing choices are. He truly believes that his zigzag patterned sleeves and baggy pants are stylish.
List of things I inadvertently make him receive spiritual damage over:
The way he handled a love triangle
The mystery of how old he actually is
Related to both of the above, calling him dad
Thinking he is so cool for being a real life dragoon and asking about the legendary roles he must have had in battle
In general just looking up to him reopens old wounds because of the Reality of his story
To be honest I'm not exactly sure if/when Kain would tell Ava about the reality of his story (maybe in Opera Omnia? That went on for a while). While I don't think he'd lie, he's also the type to just avoid talking about things. But at the same time Ava is really insistent on knowing everything because well. She's a dragoon fanatic.
In the end, revealing his past doesn't change her view of him bc the dragoon idealization is just that strong (A battle between morality and your feelings... Just like an epic tale! And your sense of justice won out in the end! Truly a dragoon of legend!) but I do also think him divulging the love triangle part would 100% result in him receiving more spiritual damage because his feelings Still Haven't Faded.
And Ava only makes it worse because she keeps trying to offer solutions. First she tries to suggest polyamory but that man is NOT going to broach that topic with his best friends who have been married 17 years. Also there's still lingering shame over his actions making him feel unworthy of intruding on their relationship again.
So naturally she will now try to find him someone else to help him get over Rosa. This will not work because those feelings have stayed for over two decades. But she keeps trying anyways like a daughter of a single dad in a romcom who really wants a new mom.

Realizing the Duellum Ava-Kain dynamic is that "not dressed like that you aren't -> yas bitch slay" meme except Kain is jumping away trying to defend his right to his stupid tourist souvenir fang necklace instead of letting Ava get him new clothes. Ava calling in her boyfriend to warp-strike him so she can right this sin.

I'm not sure what the memory situation is in Duellum, in previous games certain characters not having memory of all the canon events of their games was a Thing along with whether they retain their memories of the events of the previous games also being a Thing. E.g. PSP and 012 have a memory loss timeloop situation going on while in NT, I think they remember the events of the previous games. I don't quite remember what the situation was in Opera Omnia, as I only played a small bit of it, but I do think characters
So far Duellum hasn't tackled the question of whether the cast remembers each other. On the "they do" side, Cloud did seem rather amenable to WoL and co asking for help from him, which makes me feel like he does remember them. He and Lightning also seem very much in sync during the Shibuya battle, though I don't recall them being teamed up in previous Dissidias. On the other hand, certain protag interactions seem a little more distant than I'd expect if they carry their memories -- Firion and Cloud's dynamic as well as Firion's take on Kain, for example.
It also seems like characters know each other more than is depicted in the cutscenes/texts, e.g. Kain referring to Krile as ohimesama and Zidane recalling that Kain was looking for a hobby in the 4koma (Which seems to be canonical), but that could just be due to offscreen bonding time.
Anyways. All this to say that in my heart Kain and Ava do remember their interactions in previous Dissidias, purely because the impact of "My dad is wearing a horrendously lame outfit" does not hit the same if she does not remember who he is. Doubly so if the first time she sees him he's in the stupid outfit and thus can't believe that Fedora Cardigan Man is actually one of the coolest dragoons ever.
XV Ava CAN perform High Jump after chapter 7 due to Aranea teaching her the basics. But I do think it would be fun for Ava and Noct to try to figure it out before then through a combination of their strengths. Noct carries her, warps into the air and then Ava does the actual jumping down for damage part from there.
Of course Ava has her idealization of Kain given her longtime admiration of dragoons. But also I could see Prompto admiring Balthier because he's got sharp gunmanship and he's popular with women?! That guy's truly got it made.
Noct claims he doesn't look up to any of the other Dissidia'd characters, "Guess I'm already perfect" but we saw you following WoL and Cecil around like a lost little duckling. You liar.

Okay okay. Brief interlude from all the comedy potential of Ava and her shittily dressed mentor/dad in Tokyo.
I do think the Duellum context is really cute, almost bittersweet, for Avanoct. An alternate version of Insomnia where Noct's responsibility as future king doesn't apply. An alternate version of Insomnia where Ava and Noct did properly meet before the city got destroyed and can have cute dates together, going to the arcade, then the movies, then retiring to a normal apartment and cuddling.
Okay back to bullying Kain for his fit. I do think he would shadow Avanoct to ensure they aren't bothered, out of a "It's my responsibility to safeguard their young love (trauma)" mentality. Avanoct having an obnoxiously cute sleeping-on-the-others'-shoulder moment and Kain is 15 feet away leaning on a lamppost death staring anyone going near them.
Given his absolutely suspicious attire and how he's following those two around it wouldn't take long for someone to call the authorities on him and they have to explain the situation and make sure he doesn't get arrested.
I can't decide whether it'd be better for Ava to be eerily helpful in helping Kain find good restaurants, given that Insomnia is basically alternate universe Shinjuku, or if she's not good at it at all (Kind of a Mithrun dunmeshi situation where the sense of direction is off due to prior experience. She's good at navigating the streets but bad at knowing where a specific place is)
Either way she is accompanying him on restaurant visits, but she's making him foot the bill since she's incredibly stingy. Most of what she tags along for is ramen (The price of ramen has gone up a lot since 2016, so she will balk at the cost. But even then it's just 1000~2000 yen) or family restaurant meals though so he's not paying like. Gourmet meal prices.
Actually we're going with the latter. Ava and Kain arguing about where a restaurant is:
She can tell which districts are used for what, but doesn't know the exact locations of certain stores -- unless, weirdly enough, they were one of the brands that received product placement in FFXV, and the locations are unchanged from 2016. So she can find Laforet (Vivienne Westwood) and some Uniqlo and Roen locations. The inconsistency of what places she can locate bewilders her.

Tbh my XV S/I had a non-negative relationship with her biological father so I don't think she'd actually call Kaіn "dad", I think she'd idolize him/see him as a mentor and refer to him as master or something. In a duellum context though she might call him dad as to not arouse suspicion.
On top of the being different races thing Kain is 38 years old at best (This is the age I choose to believe bc the alternative makes their dynamic weird). Ava is 21. Painting a risky image of what the hell he was up to in his youth.
