Her eyes had widened upon seeing the jewerly. It sparkled in the light and held her favourite stones: rubies. Momo had tried protesting but to no avail whatsoever; Todoroki could be quite stubborn when he wanted to be. Thus, she conceded defeat, remaining still as he stood behind her to place the necklace around her neck.

She didn't think she had done anything to deserve it and told him as much. There was no special occassion and there was still a week until the trial.

He shook his head with a slight chuckle when she spoke her worries. “I’m not worried about that. Even if you lost, which I doubt you will, it’ll still be my gift to you.” He pulls his hands away once the necklace was on.

Shaking her head, she felt herself start tearing up as she looked at both of their reflexions in the mirror. "I will try my hardest to succeed, I promise." Shouto had never stopped believing in her and for that, she'd be forever grateful. Gingerly touching the necklace, she spoke. "Thank you. It's really beautiful."

Momo flashed Eri a reassuring smile as she grasped her hand, hoping that a gentle squeeze would be as comforting for her as it had been for herself when this young.

Heart clenching a bit because of the words, she willed her facial features to remain the way they were and nodded. “Of course we can skip that part. I don’t like it seeing it myself.” she paused. “Do you want some milk? Or apples?”

Momo would give Eri just about anything within reason.

Eri perked up a little at the mention of apples. But… thinking about it, she was pretty sure she had heard that warm milk could help people fall asleep, right? Even though she didn’t want to sleep right away, she was already feeling guilty about being up past her bedtime.

Momo was thankful for the girls’ help with getting ready; she had never been on a date before, after all and Shoto was very important to her. Mina and Hagakure had a little bit of experience so, they were the ones fussing over her hair and clothes. The others provided their input and moral support.

And though she had been nervous the entire time while dressing and having her hair done, that nervousness increased ten fold upon hearing the knock. “So punctual. Wouldn’t expect less from Todoroki.” Tsui remarked as Mina and Hagakure squealed quietly. Uraraka placed a hand on top of her shoulder. “You look great, Yaomomo. Don’t worry.”

Meanwhile Jirou opened the door, facing Shoto. “As much as I hate cliches…this is a must, so…” she paused. “Take care of her.” she had intended to sound mildly threatening but couldn’t, a smile breaking out on her face before stepping aside and letting Momo come forward.

She had let her hair down for the occassion, loosely curled courtesy of the girls; donning a red dress since everyone had agreed that it was her colour. It was tastefully elegant but not overly fancy, showing off her legs, collarbones and a slight amount of clevage, significantly less than her hero costume.

“Hello.” Momo greeted with a small smile, trying to contain her excitement. Shoto had always been handsome but tonight was different.

“I intend to,” Shoto promised Jirou with a solemn nod. He wouldn’t lie, it was actually going to be his first time stepping off-campus since he had confessed, so he was a little nervous. For that reason, he would be keeping a close eye out, just in case any of his old friends noticed them together.

Although, all of those ominous thoughts stopped in their tracks when he saw Yaoyorozu. She was stunning, in the literal sense of the word. “You look amazing,” he found himself saying without even thinking. She always looked good, but that was another level.

It occurred to Momo that she hadn't addressed him formally in quite awhile. She hadn't meant to do it just now; choosing to blame the nerves. Throwing a goodbye over her shoulder at her friends, she met Shoto's eyes again and took his hand. With a nod, she interlaced their fingers together. "That sounds lovely. I'm ready now."

She didn't think she had ever seen him smile like that before.

She was grateful for the support he provided and had a hard time deciding which of the two actions had left her more breatheless, their prior kissing or the words that both preceded and followed it.

"I'm just disappointed we lost so many years..." He admits. What if there never split up? What would they be like now? 

And though Awase understood and told her he didn't mind, Momo had felt that it just wasn't fair to him. That he deserved to find someone who loved him.

Years later when she finally thought she was moving on from Shouto...he entered her life again, proving that she had been nowhere near done. "I know how you feel..." she agreed, heart clenching when thinking of the life they could have had.

But alas, it just wasn't meant to happen. And some part of her was still doubting it doubting whether they were even supposed to try again, to hope. She let go of him, took a step back since he was much too close for her to think clearly. "I don't think I could have you only to lose you once more, Todoroki. Do you truly want this? Want me, want us?"

Momo looked down at the floor, holding her opposite wrist with her hand.

“I want this more than I know how to say. I wanted this back when... when I broke things off. But back then I was stupid and let other peoples expectations for me get in the way of what I wanted.” 

He hated himself for what he’d done. He hated that he’d bent, once again, to someone else. “I know what I want now, and who I want to make happy. Though I understand if thats not what you want...” 

Momo was sure that such an 'what if' would haunt her for how ever long she lived. Looking up as to meet his eyes again, she swallowed dryly. "I never stopped wanting you. It's not a matter of want, not for me at least. I–...."

She avoided his gaze.

"I don't know how you feel about your father nowadays, how your relationship has been like. I don't wish to get in the way of that."

It was past Eri’s bedtime; the clock strapped to the left side of the dorms’ common room told Momo as much. The little one was always so quiet and gentle…afraid to take up space, to speak up. Everyone’s presence had certainly helped with that but there was a long way to go, still.

She suspected the cause behind Eri’s roaming to be nightmares but would not address them first. Sometimes, a distraction was all you needed. Sometimes, talking about it did not make things better.

“Sure we can.” she straightened up, extending out a hand for her to take if she wished to. “Do you want to watch a new movie or one of your favourites?”

Eri gladly took Momo’s hand, rubbing her eyes to keep from tearing up. She was glad that Momo hadn’t told her to go back to bed yet. Maybe she could fall asleep during the movie, with someone else there so she would be safer.
