Tbh I feel like black ppl make peak Southern Gothic media yk? The difference of atmosphere of white southern gothic and Black Southern Gothic is so different. One works with family secrets, plantations, and silenced women scared of their fathers. The other works with hidden (or not so hidden) hoodoo or voodoo, familial trials, dysfunction within the body, mind, and spirit, and the absence of faith because life became too difficult- so you turn to the old ways instead. Maybe- I think- black people understand what it's like to be haunted much better than white people do. We know curses by name and bring Florida Water, Red brick dust, and Goofer dust when stepping to belligerence. We were cursed a long time by those who walked among us, owned, us, used us, shipped us away from our homes, stole our babies for gator bait, ate us, gave us a Bible before we learned to read English to erase our religions and spiritual paths, and frequently got horribly abused, then hunted down like dogs when we tried to find freedom. I just don't think White people understand Southern Gothic in the same way. A white person looks at an old dilapidated chapel with peeling paint and gloomy skies and think 'creepy', ride past plantations and think nothing of it. But a black person sees that chapel and rides past those things? An overwhelming feeling of dread settles in our gut with knowledge that we were never meant to be there in the first place. That if we stepped outside of our car at night, we'd be hunted by some hungry white people who still own the recipe bibles for the negro.

I have a theory- no vampire is straight. Not fr, bc you mean you have quite literally forever to live and ain't NEVER fw someone of the same sex??? Never??? You ain't never thought about your homie and wondered what it was like? Mhmm okay, personally, I'd descend into an evolution that'd make me even more man averse and more gay. I'd just be in a haunted house, having a great time with my lesbian lover and I'd have a great wardrobe and so would they and we'd do weird lesbian shit together with a bald headed cat I'd crochet sweaters for. But I digress.
