Just Wanted To Share Something Cool Iโm Doing For A Poetry Class
So we had a lecture a while ago based upon the idea that poetry doesnโt have to be written word, and can use pictograms to convey ideas instead of text. We were given a whole bunch of doodles from cave paintings and told to assemble them into a poem. I guess most of the class just messed around with them, but Iโm taking this task Way Too Seriouslyโข and now Iโm having fun inventing caveman language.ย
ย We were shown a symbol that resembled a bow with multiple strings. I interpreted the symbol as aย โdirection markerโ, with the orientation of the symbol denoting compass direction, and the number of strings in the bow indicating speed of movement.ย
ย We were given two symbols resembling axes, one with the axe upwards, and one with the axe upside-down. Iโve interpreted these as aggression indicators, denoting aggression/activity and defensiveness/passivity respectively. Perhaps this could also be used to indicate tone/implied rudeness of a sentence?ย
ย We were also given a bunch of random noun pictograms like various footprints (bison hoofprints, bird clawprints and human footprints), locations (grasslands, forests mountains) and a bunch of objects (huts, campfires, racks of spears) to just populate the language a bit.
ย Currently working on actually writing the poem for the class. Iโm hoping theyโll like it, and I havenโt massively overthought this for nothing.ย
