Just as the mood suddenly shifted, his expression changed. “That isn’t it. I had thought…” There were many things he considered and tried to rationalize to himself, but the bottom line of it was — “You have never spoken what you wanted like that, and I had to wonder if it was a joke… You’re a valuable part of Chaldea. Wasting your New Years Eve with me… doing, well, I am not going to repeat it.” Ah, that wasn’t entirely what he meant either. As Romani had just said, they had been meeting for some time then. Either in his own room or the other’s, the library, the control room, anywhere one thought the other would be they were somehow found. It was easy, comforting being as they were. Romani was no Servant, and Waver had a future after Chaldea. For them, there could be an after.
“You never have had to ask,” was answered softly, giving a gentle squeeze to Romani’s hand. “However you wish to spend it, if you choose to include me… I would be happy.”
“...and I apologize for that. for one reason or another I am rather bad at voicing my wishes. never really done it besides once.” and he still isn’t certain if that wish had perhaps been a mistake. if he had just stayed being solomon... ah that’s a thought for another day. “wasting? waver you... are not a waste of my time. I had that feeling for a while but - you think lowly of yourself, don’t you?” with a sigh he cups waver’s cheek, smiling. “even ignoring the servants chaldea is home to some incredible mages - and yet I hold the most respect for you, you who had to earn your place in the mage’s world. and that only speaks of your talent as one, not of you as a person... if I had to describe you. I would say...” he closes his eyes, smile turning softer and softer.
“those cold winter days when everything is snowed in and the world turns quiet... and you light some candles to sit by the window, wrapped in a blanket with tea and your favorite book... that is the kind of feeling I get when I am near you. does that truly sound like a waste of time?”
