Anyone who loves dramas knows this predicament — you have a queue full of dramas that you want to watch but never get around to it and then there are those dramas, that everyone seems to LOVE but you cannot, for the life of you, gather the energy to watch or to care. Sometimes you can’t bring yourself to sit through something you know that EVERYONE loves (for one reason or another), and it can feel like your forcing it. Early on in my drama watching days, I would actively sit through dramas I clearly didn’t like because I thought I HAD to finish it, and I ALWAYS finish what I’ve started. Now I realize, life’s too short for a crappy drama, and it’s OK if I like something you hate, or loathe something you love. We’re different, we’re unique, we’re fantastic — our own virtual drama rainbow. 

Here are just 5 of the dramas I cannot force myself to start, regardless of the hype.

King2Hearts

Despite the fact that this drama boasts Ha Ji Won, Lee Seung Gi and some other very accomplished actors. The political intrigue plot-line that serves as the backbone of this story has never interested in me. Further, and this may be controversial, I’ve never been able to get on board with one of Lee Seung Gi’s dramas. Is it me? Am I deficient? Because I’ve really neither been a fan of him or of his previous projects. People seem to LOVE this story, and I am sure it’s worth a glance, but I have a feeling it will be forever in my queue.

On The Way To The Airport

This drama reunites Lee Sang Yoon and Shin Sung Rok from Liar Game fame, but this drama, about infidelity (or see it seems) and relationships coming out of bad marriages, just never interested me. Further, I tend to really shy away from dramas about people dealing with married life, and I’m not sure why. Lee Sang Yoon is always fantastic and I really want to see a Kim Ha Neul project, but I don’t think this will be the one I start.

Jealousy Incarnate

Jealousy Incarnate was one of those dramas that intrigued me from the moment I heard about the casting. Starring Gong Hyo Jin and Jo Jung Suk (some of my faves) I was super excited about this premise. As the drama started airing, I became increasing turned off by the love triangle aspect, and I never could buy Go Gyung Pyo as a realistic rival for Gong’s character’s affection. I know that for those that did stick around for its messing beginnings, there was some light at the end of the tunnel, but I’m not sure I care enough now to stick it through that rough patch.

The Moon that Embraces the Sun

This drama still intrigues me, and I am interested in seeing a new drama from Kim So Hyun now that I have finished You Who Came From the Stars. That being said, this has mixed reviews and I’m just not a fan of sageuks in any form. The first and only one I watched in its entirety was Moon Lovers…and you know how that turned out. I will not be burned again. **That sounded more dramatic than I intended it to be**

Voice

About the only thing that would want to make me watch this (police procedurals are not usually my thing) is the villainous turn taken by my favorite face, Kim Jae Wook. However, from all that I’ve seen from this drama it seems darker than I’m usually able to stomach and incredibly violent. As someone who tends to watch dramas for a kind of escapism, this isn’t a drama I would normally enjoy.

Honorary (But Important) Mention: Goblin

I started compiling this list with Goblin in mind, but I didn’t put it on the official list because technically, I did start this drama, but could not (for the life of me) get past the first four episodes. Sometimes when you watch a drama (and it’s really good) and hour can seem like it passes by in twenty minutes, but these episodes were LONG and felt LONG. While people seem to instantly be attracted to the characters here, I had a hard time stomaching most (if not all) of the performances and was surviving on my love for Lee Dong Work and Gong Yoo to get me through. Unfortunately, even they couldn’t get me invested in the story, and I just felt it was time to say “bon voyage”.
