I like little whimsical romances!! I like the magical experience of seeing two characters fall in love among a bigger complex world!! I love romance! I love giving love to the one character who is not expecting!! IT IS A CHOICE, AND I CHOOSE IT

#plus dating sims really aren't comparable to RPGs with optional romance because they are usually pure romance genre #english/western ones are also usually much shorter than the average playtime of an RPG #the appeal of an RPG with optional romance is that the main story adds stakes to the romance #but the other aspect that people really enjoy is the fact that the story doesn't just 'end' after they 'get together'#I think no one is actually expecting every companion in every game to be romance able #in the mass effect series; by 3 you are already together with either liara tali or garrus #this allows for the relationship to develop even further because it's been established for a while #a pure romance visual novel does not usually have the space or time to dedicate to long term development #in dragon age 2 you have the same thing but in one game as there are multiple year time skips #you get to see your love interest potentially move in with you and then develop into who they are in the last act and climax of the game #also sorry to the other romances I didn't mention who continue on to 3 like kaidan and Ashley etc 😭 there are so many #but that is genuinely one of the coolest things ever
