“I really enjoyed making the Hannah in New York image because it was the first time I’d ever painted a GIRLS piece (I used watercolors instead of my usual brush marker pens and colored pencils). I think it captures the feeling of excitement and ambition of being young and unsure of the future, as the city looms over her. It’s based on the episode in Season 4 when Hannah gets her first paycheck from her “grown up” job. “I try to depict a range of scenes from quiet to hilarious, touching to manic. The show covers such a maelstrom of emotions and themes and I try to translate as much of this as I can into my drawings. I enjoy capturing a pivotal moment in an episode, for example when a character has an epiphany or reaches melting point.
