10k
This is my first blog post, I have been wanting to start a blog for a couple of years but I was making excuses because I'm insecure about my writing. I decided to start blogging because I will become a better writer each time and I want to share my life story. Hear I go and I hope whoever reads this can connect in some way. I have been working out for the last two years to change my life and to find some sort of relaxation. I started to work out in 2014 to lose weight to make myself feel better which I accomplished in my first year. The second year, which is this year 2016, I wanted to accomplish something that I have never done before and hated, which was running. I'm not a fan of running because I thought it was boring and not exciting. After yesterday, I realized I found my stress relief and my competition side let out. I ran my first 10k (6+ miles) and I loved it. I have been training for this race the last two months by running almost everyday. I have a trainer who set goals for me and explained to me what to do each week. Did I follow the plans by heart the entire time? Nope, I'm human and running everyday and eating right everyday is hard unless you have your mind in it the entire time. With my crazy schedule and my career, I needed some days off in a row and have a few drinks every now and then. During training, I would run a mile a week, then two miles a week, so on and so on. My first accomplishment happened in the second week when I ran 1.70 miles around the entire lake where I live ( great feeling). After that I ran 2.07 miles a week later which beat my own personal goals. Two weeks after that I ran 3.0 miles which set more new records. I was not close to running an entire 10k but I still wanted to give the race my best effort. Race day, the gentleman started the run 5 and half minutes after the ladies. 5 minutes in and I already wanted to give up but I knew I would not be a happy with myself. I pushed on and I reflected/ listened to music to get my mind off the run. While running, I was also viewing the scenery because we were running in open land. The first mile I ran it in 9:07, the second mile in 9:20, and third mile in 9:25. I was making great pace. After about 3.20 miles I decided to walk because I my legs were getting heavy and my hands felt like they were sleeping on me. I was not upset with myself because 3.20 miles has been the farthest I ever ran. I was emotional because another goal accomplished. Mile 4 was the hardest during this race. I would mostly fast pace walk this mile. After mile 4, I ran most of 5 because I knew I was almost done. Running to the finish line, I caught up to one of my friends and we finished the race together. I was proud to finish the race with my best friend. The goal that I set myself up for before the race was to finish the race in 1 hour and 10 minutes. I finished the race in 1 hour and 07 minutes. I felt so proud and accomplished that I beat my time I set up for myself but also proud that I finished the race. I was 567 out of 666 in my gender/age. To me, this a great goal to beat next time I race. Overall, I was thrilled to compete in running and I found my new hobby. Life gets tough, but as long you have the mind set and you set goals for yourself, you can accomplish anything. I want to run a 10k again in the summer of 2016. I hope this reaches to someone who is just like me with running, accomplishing life goals, living a healthy lifestyle, and improve writing. If so, connect with me so that we can be supporters to each other! NL
