Happy Girls Day(Hina Matsuri) 🎎　This is called “Satsuma-itobina” that traditional crafts of Girls day in Kagoshima. 今日はひな祭りです。鹿児島には「薩摩糸びな」という伝統工芸品があるのを知ってますか？ 顔がなく、竹1本が本体で色鮮やかな和紙などが使われているのが特徴です。

Kuribayashi Issetsu Kokeshi

A recently acquired kokeshi couple from the artist Kuribayashi Issetsu (栗林一雪). He was active through the 1960s into the late 1990s, and these are part of his early style.

The woodworking is remarkable, and the fine details in his brush work is exquisite. The subtle carving and inlaid enamel painting for their kimono adds a level of detail, many times above the typical plain finished, more commercial kokeshi.
