since you touched on this topic, i'm going to pour my favorite kind of angst on you
Dick and Jason somehow getting to know each other's memories, whether that's because they talked after a grueling night of work or by magic
my favorite part is when Jason realizes how abusive Bruce was to Dick, how lonely he felt but didn't leave because he was afraid of being truly alone, how he was abandoned every time he had no use for some mission, how he wasn't even told that Jason died, every time he was hurt, what Tarantula and Mirage did to him, I want Jason to cry, I want him to feel like throwing up, I want him to feel angry and powerlessness for not being able to protect Dick, and I want him to be hugged in the end, mutual comfort
said topic, probably Ah yes, more angst, yes. I love how your tone is like "my favorite part is-" the enthusiasm lol.
In my opinion it's more likely to be by magic, I can see Jason bringing up his theater villain monologue but not so much about Dick sharing his painful memories. After all he's the "I must be strong for the familyâ type of guy. And he'll lie to himself that it's all in the past, everything is better now. In my headcanon, Jason always sees Dick as a hero, an idol. Probably less after he came back, but it's still in the deepest of his heart. It'll definitely shock him knowing how everyone's favorite golden boy has suffered, since he has always been so perfect, too perfect for any of them to catch up. And his relationship with Bruce as well. Everyone in the family share the acknowledgment that Dick is Bruce's favorite, how could he not be? Yet it's a different story in Dick's memory, and he never said a word when they're joking about the favouritism.
Suddenly Jason realized that he doesn't know Dick as well as he assumed. Hell, now knowing this he starts to think that maybe he's not the most fucked up child soldier Bruce has put a crest on. At least he knows his problems, and Dick's still trying to fake it.
