BIOGRAPHY !
Nothing was known about the birth of a young baby boy relinquished to a hospital in San Diego in the middle of a gruelling gusty day in October—perhaps ending up in the arms of a young nurse was some sort of indication of his later life, but on that fateful day the biggest question was making sure he was safe. He was named Nicholas—after the nurse that first laid eyes on him. After getting the clear from the hospital, Nico was sent to a local foster home. Being eighteen months when he was adopted by the Mackenzie's, he does not have any memories of his time at the foster home, but he was well taken care of by the family.
Nico was never a perfect kid, but he was loved greatly by his parents. Like many children his age, he was very curious about the world around him. His parents were supportive of him—which helped cultivate a positive relationship among him and his siblings. Nico was proud to be the older brother, to make sure they were all safe and happy. He was enthused to be the head duckling on the motley crew that was his siblings. While he was never the perfect child, he was healthy and happy—and that's all his parents could ask for him.
He got into hockey when he was eight and quickly fell in love with the spot. Introduced by a friend when he was over at their house after school, Nico loved how quick and messy the sport could be—while also enjoying the cool air of an ice rink. Nico expected his parents to say no, but they both agreed to let him play, signing him up to play with a local league. Even at a young age, he worked hard to develop his skills on the ice—and eventually took his travel league to the championships. By the time he reached high school, his entire life was taken up by hockey, being part of both his high school team and a local travel team. He gained the attention of scouts from all over the country.
Despite professional teams sending offers, Nico decided that he'd rather go to college and hone his skills before joining any professional team—hoping that it would help hone his skills. He went off to play for Boston College and major in sports management. School had never been his strong suit, but he'd always tried to succeed in everything that he tried. It took a little bit of an adjustment, but after the first year at college, Nico started flourishing. His grades may not have been all passing, but he did well enough. The plan was to graduate and hopefully get drafted into a minor or professional league. Until junior year, Nico got into a really bad incident on the ice that left him with three broken ribs and a shattered arm.
While Nico wanted to get better and get back to playing hockey as soon as possible, he did decide to take his recovery seriously, but he was in a lot of pain. Though he rested, the recovery was starting to get too slow. When he was eventually dropped from his college team, Nico heard about an experimental procedure that could help him with recovery and lost without hockey, he tried it. It helped, but it was still going to be a long process to recovery. Nico struggled with both the pain and depression, so he turned to pills to help with his recovery, knowing if there was any chance he could return to hockey he would.
After two years of struggling with addiction and still feeling like he had no prospects of a steady job, Nico was twenty four and felt like he was at his all time low. He made his way back to Aurora Bay and his family. Although he'd always been close to them, it was weird being back because he'd wanted to be independent and he'd been keeping them at a distance—not necessarily avoiding them, but not telling them anything either. When he came back it was clear that he was not in a good place. He wanted to keep the worst from those he cared about—and in doing so, he destroyed his own health. He knew that he wanted to be a good role model for his siblings and felt like a failure, so he quietly checked himself into rehab.
Nico worked on a more holistic way to manage the pain in his shoulder and ribs and slowly began to let his family in again, especially when his dad was diagnosed with cancer. Nico had enough to deal with on his own, but he wanted to be there for his family. He made sure to be there for every one of his sibling's events, every soccer game Sage played, everything his younger siblings did. Nico knew that there was tension with some of his family members, but he damn sure was going to do his best to be there for them when it mattered the most.
After his dad's diagnosis, Nico decided that he didn't want to rely on his family's money anymore, got a job at the bookstore while he worked to become a paramedic. The medical field, while he knew could be potentially difficult as a recovering addict, was important to him after the issues he had as well as his dad. He's been working as a paramedic for the past five years and loves it. He's in a much better place than he was even two years ago. There's a part of him that misses the thrill of hockey and he's been toying with the idea of coaching a team around Aurora Bay.

🍰 Cake - How good are they at cooking and/or baking?
"I'm the worst at cooking. I eat a ton of ramen. I mean I can make it fancier than just noodles and the packet, but yeah.... I tend to stay away from the kitchen."
What is your muse’s love language / how do they show affection?
"I don't know. Probably acts of service. I spend a lot of time at work and have a difficulty creating time for the other love languages. Gifts are nice, I guess, but I'd rather give them than get them."

"See, but if you only ever see yourself in hero mode, you'll get a big ego," he says with a shrug, leaning a little closer to the other man. "We need those moments of stupidity to humble us sometimes. Not, you know, the truly bad shit, though. Need to soften some of that." His expression goes more serious. "I was joking about filming it, by the way. Especially, like... at work. I feel like that's extra shitty." He shakes his head.
"Oh, I am, too," he admits with a laugh. "It's bad, too. I'll change it on one device, forget what I fucking put it as when I try to log in on another device, have to change it again..." A smirk. "It's a vicious cycle, man. At this point I'm ready to put is as just 'password' everywhere and welcome the identity theft." He is probably kidding.
"Hallmark holiday," he offers with a slight nod. "I don't mind it too much but it's definitely not my favorite. Although it's nice to celebrate love, you know? Just... I don't think it has to be a specific day to do that." He gives a softer smile at the relationship talk. "Thankfully she's very chill about things, which is nice. And same, man. Sometimes it's a little much, but the really cheesy petty squabbles are entertaining, I have to say. ... So no other half this V-day?"
@nicomackenzie
"You underestimate how big my ego already is." He had to have one to play sports the way he had growing up. Nico wouldn't say his ego was as big as some people's were, but he did have a decently inflated one. "Speak for yourself. I deserve to have a big ego." After everything he'd been through. "No, you absolutely should. I'd probably laugh at it later myself. You know after a day or two." Nico didn't love to make a fool of himself in public, but still.
"No, it's always like that. Why doesn't it update on all my devices. I thought I paid Apple to make my life easier." Nico hated having to remember all his passwords for work. There were at least three different ones between all the stuff he needed to use. "No, it's gotta be password123 with a capital p." He laughed.
"I like the idea of it. You know, celebrate love or whatever. Except, I'm not in a relationship and I really don't have time to date." One day he'd put finding someone ahead of his career. Or maybe he wouldn't. "I agree though. I think if this is the only day that you're celebrating love, then you're probably a shit partner." Nico shrugged. "Nah. I don't have time to date. I'm really bad at calling people back."
"Honestly that makes a lot of sense. I should really do mocktails more often, but if I'm paying the same price for juice might as well add a little bit of pizzaz to it." Addison knew nothing about prices and alcohol. She only knew the time she did pay for a mocktail it was the same price as the heartbreaker cocktail she thought was interesting to try. Still, she wanted to say she tried all aspects of the drinking world so mocktail was the final answer.
"How do you know if you're horrible at dancing if you don't like to dance? You know there's a popular movie that had this similar backstory and someone ended up dancing. Might've been on a ballfield instead of a dance floor, but still it happened." Yes she was referencing High School Musical if no one knew. It was completely relevant in this situation.
"Oh shit. That's a pretty tough job in which sleep is important so I do hope you get at least a few hours when you aren't on call or shift. You work nights mostly?" @nicomackenzie
"Mocktails are so good too. I love that they're getting popular." More and more places seemed to have mocktails on their menu these days. "I like the flavors without having to deal with the whole getting drunk thing." Nico liked to be careful with alcohol too. He didn't like to drink most of the time that he went out. Occasionally it was nice to have a drink or two, but that was it. Tonight was going to be one of those occasional days.
"Cause I've tried to dance too many times and it never goes well. I'm not good on my feet, but put a pair of ice skates on my feet and it's different." It wasn't like he danced on the ice, though skating was more comfortable than his feet. "Dancing isn't for me. I can sway, that's about it." He basically had two left feet.
"I sleep when I get the chance to." He wasn't super strict about his schedule for getting sleep. "Nah, mostly during the day. I'll volunteer for night shift during holidays."
Nico: I redecorated my foyer.
Nico: I just need a second opinion on it
Nico: It looks good to me but what do I know about interior decorating? Nothing.
☄️ COMET - what do people assume about them? are they right?
"I think a lot of people assume I threw away my career on purpose, but they're wrong. I tried to get it back. I tried to get it back on track but it wasn't possible."

🎀 how does your muse express themselves? what kind of personal flair do they put into what they do? what does it mean to them?
"Probably with a lot of hockey posters in my house? Framed and signed by different people. I don't know. I'm kind of a boring person. If you're talking about emotions, I think I'm a fairly good listener, I'd rather listen than talk to heat my own voice."
🙊 SPEAK-NO-EVIL - what is something your oc will refuse to stay quiet about?
"Getting help when you need it. I don't see any shame in asking the people you love for help. If it's money or advice or something bigger, you can't heal if you are constantly quiet about your problems. Even if you only need someone to sit and listen."
"I would venture a guess, quiet days for you are good days for the general population?" Finn suggests. "But I cannot say I share that sentiment. Administrative work never seemed all that appealing."
It is why he works at Tidal Wave, and freelances.
Music and photography, Finn's forte.
He raises his brows at Nico's explanation, and he can't help but ask, "That injury doesn't ever impede on your ability to lift people onto stretchers?" It's also, in his opinion, an interesting choice for a pivot. Though, that is an assumption based on no knowledge of his previous job.
"Either way, good on you for doing it. Someone has to."
"They are good for the general population, not so much for my sanity. There's always something to do though." Even if it was something little. He would organize again and again during the slower days.
"Not really. Not anymore. It changed the way I was able to skate on the ice. I was never going to get full mobility back, but I can lift people with no issues." It was a tough situation to deal with.
"That's true. Human bodies are so fragile if you think about it. Without our brains we'd be so weak out there in the wild."
“ oh? Oh my god that’s a really important job” far more important than what she does and she always feels a bit too under a microscope at times despite it. Ramsey didn’t go to college so she couldn’t relate exactly. She did spend a lot of time in cities but it was different. She had to often be on her best behavior for work. “ sounds like a bad hangover “
“ really? Wait so you like onions normally? Like when they’re not fried? “ sh asked glancing back with a curious expression. “ so far just chilling. I don’t have to leave for work in the morning so I can feel like I’m not being rushed tonight “ @nicomackenzie
"Important, sure, but it can be boring." He didn't think he was all that important. Not really. There were other jobs that were more important than his even among his own coworkers. "It was and then we'd have to get up at 4 in the morning to practice or do weight lifting. It was a lethal combination." He shrugged.
"I love them fried, but I also love them normally. I'm not gonna like bite into one or something, but I love their flavor, especially caramelized." Then again, anyone who hated caramlized onions was weird. "Ugh, what time do you have to work?"

Nico: hey, do you think you could stop by the house this week and look at my foyer? I painted it and I think I hate it.
Nico: Wait... this isn't who I thought it was. Anyways. Wanna help me out either way?
