Serious Eats NY website is seriously great. The neighborhood guide is especially useful when you are on the go. I discovered this AFTER my last trip and a sorely disappointing lunch at The Met. The Buzzfeed winter tour is full of great recommendations.

Iconic NYC foods  Pizza, hot dogs, bagels, cheesecake, knishes, matzoh ball soup, rugalah, babka, hot chocolate 

Hot Dogs @ Papaya King - Best in NY According to Anthony Bourdain

Katz Delicatessen  Iconic deli. Orgasmic even (When Harry Met Sally's famous scene was filmed here). Their hand-carved pastrami reputed to be the best in the world. There's so much goodness to be had. 

From Anthony Bourdain: "...Katz’s to remind yourself how pastrami is done right. This is what New Yorkers do better than anybody else. And here’s where they do it."

Russ & Daughters  Smoked fish heaven. The best place to get your NY bagel done right - layered w silky lox. Finish it off w a chocolate babka. Mmm...  From Anthony Bourdain: "Russ & Daughters started as a pushcart nearly a century ago, and it now serves some of the last traditional Eastern European Jewish-style herring and belly lox, smoked sable, and sturgeon."

Veniero's Go to Veniero's for New York's finest italian pastries. Order a cup of coffee and a Cannoli. Share a slice of cheesecake.  

Minetta Tavern Classic renowned Greenwich Village bistro. Is it worth the fan fare? You be the judge. But make a reservation.  

La Bonne Soup Classic unpretentious French bistro. Steak or Moules et Frites. Fondue. French Onion Soup.  

The Smith Casual American brasserie. Great food and drink. Multiple locations. 

Neue Galerie Indulge in great German food at the Nueue Gallerie cafe. Then spend some time enjoying the art collection at this lovely little museum. 

Le Bernardin  Fancy. Expensive. If you like Gourmet food you should eat here. Make a reservation in advance. On my list of places to eat before I die. 

Chelsea Market  One of the greatest food halls of the world. Filled w more than 35 great shops. You can't go wrong but some notable places: Buddakan, Morimoto, Takumi, Rana.

New York City is a wonderful place to consume art. After a recent visit and personal refresher here are some tips I wanted to capture for visiting the majors... 

MOMA  A must for any modern art lover. Admission is $25 but free on Friday evenings from 4-8pm. Take a break halfway through to enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail and a small bite in their Terrace 5 cafe.   

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) The largest museum in the US and amongst the 10 largest in the world. Recommended adult admission is is $22 for adults but it is always pay as you wish. At over 4 blocks the collection is vast and serious overwhelming. It's wise to make a bit of a plan versus wandering. Even spending most of the day there will barely scratch the surface. It is really easy to lose track of time. You'll likely want to break and eat. Skip the cafeteria in the basement. There are two cafes that are better - the Petrie Court cafe and the American wing cafe. Or if you're there Fri or Sat eve, enjoy drinks and snacks in the Great Hall Balcony. 

The Guggenheim Frank Lloyd Wright's iconic building which is among the 20th century's most important architectural landmarks. Small renowned collection with many significant works with special exhibits featured in the museums great rotunda. Admission is $22 with pay as you wish hours every Saturday evening from 5:45 - 7:45. 

The Whitney - Closed till May 1, 2015  Not to be overlooked is the collection of 20th and 21st century art at The Whitney. The new Whitney, designed by architect Renzo Piano and located between the High Line and the Hudson River, will open in May 2015 and provide a more comprehensive view of their unsurpassed collection of modern and contemporary American art.
