This is your reminder today that Irene Adler in the original Conan Doyle story is literally not a criminal. She never commits a crime.
Nor is she a seductress in any kind of negative or manipulative sense - she has a mutual relationship with a powerful man who then breaks up with her, and afterwards she keeps protection against him in the form of evidence that the relationship existed. She HAS blackmail material, she even waves it at him threateningly because he treated her like shit, but she never even uses it.
Irene Adler is not a thief, femme fatale, or blackmailer. She's just a cool lady that wants to be left alone.
@delphi-star You do recall correctly!! She does not give a shit about that man! She's happily married! She tipped him for being a witness at her wedding!
If your Sherlock Holmes adaptation has a character whose identifying qualities are that she is a seductive criminal in love with Holmes, you have created a character that is basically the literal opposite of Irene Adler and you should name her something else.
She's also -- and I cannot stress this enough -- from New Jersey. IMO this is the single most important detail missing from all the adaptations -- IRENE ADLER IS FROM NEW JERSEY.
Please just once in my life I would like to see this adapted faithfully it would be the funniest fucking thing ever.

Part 3 Baby
Come get your Episode 9 Ragapom Rambles
Oh look at that. My heart in two pieces.
Ok but itâs kinda funny to read this as a slight meta joke over how a lot of fans were speculating that she would be one of the humans next to abstract. Even if you werenât a Ragatha fan (hell I think Ragatha fans were the ones who were betting on it the most).
Survivors guilt is a son of a bitch.
So I know a lot of people raised an eyebrow here because based on what has been shown in the series, Pomni wasnât exactly shown being âfriendlyâ with Ragatha until like the end of episode 3 at the earliest. By episode 4 they were at least a lot more comfortable being around each other, and as we know after episode 6 is when they started to actually do more than get along, they started to really work together and rely on each otherâs opinions.
Many have argued that Gummigoo was her actual first real friend, and if we had to exclude him because of âreal personâ semantics, Kinger would probably be next thanks to their little talk in episode 3 and her constant reliance on his wisdom.
But hereâs where Iâm gonna be grasping at some lovely little bendy straws for your reading pleasure.
See, my interpretation of Ragatha and Pomniâs whole deal throughout the show is Pomni slowly but surely coming to the realization that she hasnât actually been very appreciative of Ragathaâs attempts at friendship and that she very much relies on her kindness. Itâs so so subtle that I wouldnât exactly blame the average viewer to pick up on it, but Pomni does actually hold Ragatha in high regard even before the end of episode 6, sheâs just really shit at showing it. And this makes Ragathaâs insecurities worse because unless Pomni outright tells her that sheâs her friend, Ragatha is not gonna believe it because sheâs convinced that everything she does is wrong.
They are a perfect recipe of miscommunication and thatâs why the offscreen talk was something necessary for them to actually start being on the same wavelength, to the point where all they practically need to do afterwards is just look at each other to get what the other is trying to tell them.
Yeah, Pomni starts the series being kind of put off by Ragathaâs overzealous attempts at making her feel better, but I think her talk with Gummigoo is what helped her realize that we all kinda need someone to care enough about trying to make a bad situation feel less bad.
I mean the whole point of her interaction with Gummigoo is that she is with someone who is experiencing existential dread in a manner not that different from where she was the day before. And Gummigoo wasnât exactly being an easy customer to cheer up (which probably felt a little familiar to her). In fact, it wasnât until Pomni offered friendship in a new world that he started to change his tune. Iâm sure everyone remembers how bad we felt for Ragatha after Pomni tells Gummigoo that sheâs could âuse a friendâ after she basically gave the one person in the Circus who was actively trying to be that for her the cold shoulder all day. But then we get this moment when they all get reunited.
Instead of Pomni getting annoyed at Ragathaâs attention, she looksâŚthoughtful, almost touched. She couldâve just said âI made a friendâ, but she specifies ânewâ because itâs in this moment that she accepts sheâs already had a friend in Ragatha. She was, after all, the very first person who was kind to her, informative, and helpful. Pomni initially wasnât receptive to it all in the most positive way because itâs a little hard to be in a good mood when your life went to shit so quickly. But with all that angst gone, she starts to see Ragatha in quite literally a warmer light.
Pomni had to be in Ragathaâs shoes for a minute with Gummigoo, and it helped her understand what she has been trying to do for her since she first arrived.
And even after Gummigoo was deleted by Caine, she understands through watching them all mourn Kaufmo, that she never had to deal with all of this alone.
Her talk with Kinger was what helped her realize that even though sheâs been reassured that she at least has someone whoâs doing her best to make her feel cared for, she must also do her best to extend that effort. Which is why when they once again reunite at the end of the episode, Pomni goes to finally verbalize her appreciation to Ragatha.
One other tidbit Iâd like to mention. Even when it looks like she has a second chance to rekindle her friendship with Gummigoo when he comes back for another adventure, the episode makes a point to show Pomni looking back at Ragatha before she ultimately makes the decision to let Gummigoo go.
While the background music shifts into âSomeone Realâ from the OST.
One more side note: thereâs this constant pattern throughout the show of the two of them reuniting after a bad time. Make of that what you will.

*young men under massive amounts of pressure
not idiots.
you're allowed to not like them but calling them idiots feels like a massive insult to all the queer men in homophobic sports that come from homophobic countries and deal with racism and xenophobia.
ofc they arent going to have the same experience as two older all american white guys living in their own countries with no immigrant background where one of them isn't even an athlete and the other is at the tail end of their career.
Iâm being facetious
Watching Heated Rivalry at a friendâs behest and feeling absolutely nothing but subtle antipathy for the first two episodes and wondering to myself âoh shit wait am I actually homophobicâ but then Skip has my whole heart 8 minutes into episode 3 and I realize my actual problem is just that Hollander and Rozanov are fucking idiots.

Loki just goes SO MUCH HARDER than it ever had to.
Not only is it gorgeous and full of personality visually.
Not only does it REALLY trust its audience.
Not only is a really smartly written.
It has a cast full of career-best performances from some of the best actors in the business.
Itâs MAD.
I understand why Sylvie has her hatedom because man can she grate on the nerves sometimes, but sheâs a *brilliantly* well-realized character.
Every single visual or tonal or story choice with her so perfectly captures âwhat if someone was supposed to be Loki but hardcore rejected the identity?â
He Who Remains is such a masterful character/costume design. The cloak creates this ornate, imposing silhouette but then you look past it and he's just a DUDE in a loose TV shirt, dress pants and loafers.
Could read as ânot wanting to be too silly,â but is clearly all grounded in character.

This has been my main argument against "AI" from the very beginning.
OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.
And worse, they're trying to destroy the free sources that they stole from. It's destruction of human knowledge on an unprecedented scale. The burning of the library of Alexandria has nothing on this.
joining the war on kids reading any book they want on the side of kids reading any book they want. simply you will be fine. it's even good to be confronted with things you don't understand and even find upsetting, uncomfortable and difficult. it's a surprise tool that will help you later.

literally ok so not a funny story but kind of funny? when I was nine I encountered rape in a book and I was like hey mom whatâs this mean and she explained it and I was like oh. gross. and then like two weeks later a girl on the bus abruptly disclosed her csa and we were all like ????? what ???? but I was like wait hang on thereâs a word for that âď¸đ¤Â and explained what it meant and that it was illegal and that you could talk to a teacher or my mom if it had happened to you and everyone was like ohhhhh I see I see and very somberly comforted the girl (she was safe she was removed from her home and living with my neighbor at the time so it wasnât Urgent)
And this is a perfect illustration of why it is important for kids to read or variety of things, and why abusers donât want them to.
Hiding knowledge from kids will not benefit them but only render them helpless when faced with the unknown
