A Beautiful Converted Barn in the Idyllic Dutch Countryside

the alien like landscape of the ethiopian dallol hydrothermal field - a vast area of uplifted thick salt deposits affected by intense fumarolic activity - is famous for being the only known volcanic area bellow sea level and for being both the hottest place on the planet - with average annual temperatures well above 30 degrees celsius - and the most colourful, with its pools of a hot sulfuric acid brine and ferrous multicolored salt deposits. 

Patrolling the Wilderness?

I was on patrol this past weekend in the King Range Wilderness and quite the patrol is was… 21 miles… 5,000 feet of elevation gain by combining the King Crest, Buck Creek, Lost Coast and Rattlesnake Ridge Trails. Oh and you thought the King Range was all flat, beach hiking. Not this hike.

I inspected portions of our upland trail network to develop project plans for our summer trail crew and volunteer wilderness rangers. Now the view from my office desk is nice, but the views from the field… oh so much better!
