We pitched for 5 nights at Blackwoods Campground in Acadia National Park. The weather was awesome and the kids were motivated - two full days of hiking, one day of climbing, and the one rest day we ended up scouting climbs for our next trip.

May 3 My mother offered to watch the kids for a couple nights so Jenna and I could spend a few days alone to trail run, boulder, and rock climb. We checked the forecast for a few areas within a couple hours of home, and decided the best weather was south at Pawtuckaway State Park. I'd spent time climbing at Pawtuckaway with a couple college friends, we're talking early 90's. I remember lots of boulders and some fun top ropes. I found a few pages on Google Books to back me up. We found an awesome campsite, perfect for the caravan, on Horse Island Campground. After setting up we suited up for a trail run in order to explore the climbing area. Unfortunately, it's a haul, and confusing, driving around to the other end of the park. Upon returning the staff pointed out another approach (still driving outside the park) which saved time. The following morning we ran the Mountain Trail to the Fire Tower. Awesome loop, roundabout 10k. A couple friends met us for lunch, and then we did the drive around to do some bouldering. The crags were busy, but not packed. Same with the bouldering. It was busy, considering we only saw one party the day before, but there's enough bouldering throughout. Our friends left late afternoon - so Jenna and I decided to hike back in and climb something. We found a nice 5.9+ on the Lower Slab. A nice way to round out the day.
