Like the magi of old
Like the magi of old They trudged thru the snow Seeking the sayer of signs
But when they came near To a house in the clear A voice could be heard from behind
Gentlemen, it said, You soon will be dead What here are you hoping to find
And the voice like the wind As fragile as tin Shattered their stillness of mind
One to another They looked on their brother Pilgrims stopped on the way
Before one could say Now here we must pray Heavenâs hollow swallowed the sky
This is the story Of manâs pitiful journey His sorrowful search for a why
A this for a that A peg for his hat All reaching, all reason, awry
So smile while you can And hold out your hand The empty will soon overflow
The high will fall low The sharp will turm dull Those who argue donât know
