It’s not the best time to show he cares, but nothing ever plays easy for them. Everything about their relationship is intense, rough around the edges and unpredictable. Their nights are never just beef stew and mindless conversations. It’s definetly not the best time to show he cares, but he does. He cares a lot.

He Cheng: *Standing on the sofa*

Mo Guan Shan: ...

He Cheng: ...

Mo Guan Shan: ...

He Cheng: ...

Mo Guan Shan: *Le big sigh* Where’s the spider?

He Cheng: ...Over by the nightstand.

He Tian: *Playing a game on his phone* Hmm

*Two minute later*

He Tian: Momo. Little Mo, where are you?

*Sees note*

He Tian: “Don’t come after me”, Oh no. Mo Guan Shan!

*Ten minutes later*

Mo Guan Shan: *Back from the store* What the hell happened here?

*Lights are dimmed and ice cream containers and cigarette butts are all over the floor. A big pile of pillows and blankets on the corner as sad music plays*

He Tian: *Emerging from the pile of pillows and blankets* Momo! *Red faced, tears and snot all over his face as he goes for a hug*

Mo Guan Shan: What’s going on?

He Tian: You left!

Mo Guan Shan: Yeah for like 15 minutes. I told you I was going to the grocery store.

He Tian: Then why’d you leave that horrible note. It said to not go after you. I thought you ran away.

Mo Guan Shan: I wrote that cause you always put a bunch of snacks in the cart and we have to carry all that hone.

He Tian: Oh. *Still crying*

Mo Guan Shan: *Feeling a little bad* I’m sorry. We...can cuddle the whole night if that makes you feel better.

He Tian: And I can play with your chest?

he makes mistakes, he comes on too strong, he assumes money can fix things - after all i’m sure this is how he’s been shown love in the past, no? 

but no one taught Tian to be soft, to hold Mo’s head against his chest and tell him it’s not his fault. who taught him that!? i just wanna cry thinking how Tian just did that because he thought it was right, because he wanted to with his heart.

Tian bought Mo his guitar but gave it to him without watching - so Mo can enjoy it without feeling self conscious, so it isn’t a selfish action, so it’s just for Mo and not him.

Tian pushes Mo out of the way of the landslide in an action he can somewhat recognise, blood and pain are familiar to him. but putting his life on the line to protect another is perhaps a little strange. 

he’s just a little boy trying to grapple with feelings that so frequently overwhelm him, struggle with not being able to firmly hold Mo in his hands like he usually can, his usual methods not working here.
