Forgive me for my wrongs, I have just begun

Owen stopped short at the response. Christ. Why did he stick around again? “At least you know how to make a guy feel welcomed,” there. Deflect with sarcasm. Then he didn’t have to think about the possibility of being borderline tortured if he irritated Lawton too much. 

          ‘neither was i.’ until she got one, of course. he didn’t PRY about the details of her children, which she appreciated as she couldn’t expect that from a good number of the other SQUAD members. ‘i found her on a mission and she refused to leave.’

Owen had to resist the urge to snort. The last mission they went on had gone pretty horrendously. The only upside was that Lawton hadn’t decided to kill him after Owen had used the mini paperclip boomerangs to screw with him. Saving a guy’s life apparently went a long way. Not long enough to keep him from being threatened, but long enough that he wasn’t being shot at. That was an improvement, right? 

“If you’re gonna do that, try to avoid anything too vital.”

“Don’t worry, kid. I can keep you alive and in pain for a long time.”

       ‘i see.’ her shoulders tensed slightly at his question in response, even though she knew it would likely be coming. it was fair that she be expected to share a part of her LIFE as well. ‘ a cat. and children. once.’

             ‘i like kids. and i was a little CURIOUS.’ tatsu replied quietly, trying to be at least a little open for once. of course, she didn’t mention how she had experience as a PARENT herself, but that didn’t need mentioning. ‘she seems sweet.’

        ‘you… you mentioned having a DAUGHTER.’ there’s no question in her words, but they sound curious and almost soft nonetheless. it made her wonder, mostly about whether she’d still be the same woman she was today if her own daughters were with HER.

“Yeah, well, you haven’t exactly impressed me either, shooting my Knight and all,” Sasha answered with a shrug. Her tone didn’t give much away, but she didn’t look happy with the situation. 

Owen seems to brighten up a little at being told his information isn’t completely useless. Not too much. The sun has taken its toll by now.

“Floyd,” he repeats. It’s different. Not one he thinks he’s heard, except- “Like the band?” He nods at the suggestion to get out of the sun. “My face hurts.” Then he’s shaking his head. “Miss Turner doesn’t like me out-” Owen stops midsentence, eyes widening and his face looking horrified. “I didn’t say that.” He hadn’t meant to mention her. He wants to go back to Corey. Corey’s nice.

“Yeah, like the band.” Not the worst connection that the kid could have made if he’s being honest. “That’s ‘cause of the sun. Come on, get under this overhang with me.” He didn’t want to pull the kid to a car or anything before determining that the whole situation was safe. “When you get back to Corey, tell her to put somethin on it or it’s gonna hurt worse.” He’s dealt with sunburns before and it’s never fun to be around someone whining about how much their back hurts and see the skin bubbling and peeling. This kid’s guardian’s gonna have some work cut out for her.  Sooner he gets him to her, the better.

A last name? Now Owen feels stupid for never thinking to ask. He should have, considering she had taken care of him. “She’s got blond hair, but the ends are red! And… she’s shorter than you…” and that about covers what he knows.

“Owen,” he answers, rubbing at his face and wincing immediately from the pain. “Owen Clark, but ‘s not my last name.” He huffs a little with a bit of indignation. It doesn’t matter, really. He doesn’t know what his last name should be. It’s changed more than once.

Kids. At least he had some idea. Floyd began to go through his own mental contacts. No one - wait - that couldn’t be who she was. She was just a passing acquaintance (though honestly, who wasn’t) but it could be her. “That’s not too unhelpful.” Surprisingly.

Owen looks up with his face pink from the sun. No doubt he’ll have a decent sunburn by tomorrow. Possibly before it’s dark out. “’m tryin’a find a lady named Corey,” he says, as if everyone should know the woman. No one had yet, but he seems to remain hopeful. What other option does he have?
