“It’s actually true because a lot of us do feel things in our life and a lot of us are confused by the things we feel. Part of the job of movies is to make sense out of the questions. A good movie doesn’t tell you who to vote for. It’s not left, it’s not right. A good movie articulates a question that might be on your mind too. And then you can ask yourself– Paul Schrader says a great thing about the end of a movie: a good movie begins as you’re walking out of the theater. A really good movie is like a bell and you ring it and it vibrates inside you after you see and if you think about the great films you’ve seen in your life, they do kind of vibrate like that. I mean, no joke… I can walk down the street today and someone will say to me “O Captain! My Captain!” The end of that movie is still vibrating. That movie came out 29 years ago, you know? And it’s still vibrating. And that’s a beautiful thing to be a part of…”
