Network Scientists with Karate Trophies

Arash Badie-Modiri (left) is the 24th recipient of the Zachary’s Karate Club Club prize. For his use of the Karate Club network in his talk at the International Conference on Network Science (NetSci) in Maastricht, Netherlands, he was entrusted with the illustrious trophy by Nicholas Landry (right, awardee #22) in June 2025.

Nicholas Landry (left) is the 23rd winner of the Zachary's Karate Club Club prize. For his use of the Karate Club network in his talk at the International Conference on Network Science (NetSci) in Québec City, he was honored with the coveted trophy by Elsa Andres (right, on behalf of Luca Gallo, awardee #22) in June 2024.

Luca Gallo (right) is the 22nd recipient of the Zachary's Karate Club Club prize. For his use of the Karate Club network in his talk at the Multiscale & Integrative compleX Networks: EXperiments & Theories satellite meeting at the International Conference on Network Science (NetSci), he was awarded the singular trophy by Satyaki Sikdar (left, on behalf of Santo Fortunato, awardee #21) in July 2023.

Santo Fortunato is the 21st recipient of the Zachary’s Karate Club Club prize. For his use of the Karate Club network in his talk at the Communities in Networks satellite meeting at the International Conference on Network Science (NetSci), he was awarded a pleasing trophy by Jesús Arroyo (left, awardee #20) in July 2022.

Jesús Arroyo is the 20th winner of the Zachary’s Karate Club Club prize. For his thoughtful use of the Karate Club network in his talk at the Statistical Inference for Network Models (SINM) satellite at the Networks 2021 Conference, he was awarded the celebrated trophy by Jean-Gabriel Young (left, awardee #19) in 2021.

Jean-Gabriel Young is the 19th recipient of the Zachary’s Karate Club Club prize. For his savvy use of the Karate Club network in his talk at the Higher Order Models in Network Science (HONS) satellite at the International Conference on Network Science (NetSci 2020), he was awarded the prized trophy by Emma Towlson (left, awardee #18) in 2020.

Emma Towlson is the 18th recipient of the Zachary’s Karate Club Club prize. For her inspiring use of the Karate Club network in her talk at the International Conference on Network Science 2019 (NetSci 2019), she was awarded the coveted trophy by Philipp Hövel (left, awardee #17) in Burlington, Vermont, in May 2019.

Philipp Hövel is the 17th winner of the prestigious Zachary Karate Club Club prize. For his insightful use of the Karate Club network in his talk, he was awarded the famed trophy by Clara Granell (right, winner #16), at the International Conference on Complex Networks (CompleNet), in Tarragona, Spain, March 2019.

Clara Granell is the 16th recipient of the Zachary Karate Club Club prize. For her use of the Karate Club network in her talk, she was awarded a trophy of eminence by Leto Peel (left, winner #15), at the Mediterranean School of Complex Networks in Salina Island, Italy, September 2018.

Leto Peel is the 15th winner of the Zachary Karate Club Club prize. He was awarded a fabulous trophy by Abigail Jacobs (right; on behalf of Aric Hagberg, winner #14), for his use of the Karate Club network in his talk at the Statistical Inference for Network Models (SINM) satellite at the International Conference on Network Science (NetSci) in Paris, June 2018.

Aric Hagberg is the 14th recipient of the Zachary Karate Club Club prize. He was awarded the coveted trophy by Jarrod Millman (right; on behalf of Megha Padi, winner #13), for his use of the Karate Club network in his talk at the inaugural GraphXD workshop, at UC Berkeley, March 2018.

Amir Rubin is the 12th person to win the prestigious Zachary Karate Club Club prize. For his use of the Karate Club network in his talk, Amir was awarded an ornate trophy by Ginestra Bianconi (on behalf of Federico Battiston inductee #11), at the NetSci-X Conference, in Tel Aviv, Israel, in January 2017.

Federico Battiston is the 11th recipient of the prestigious Zachary Karate Club Club prize. For his distinguished use of the Karate Club in his talk, Federico was awarded an impressive trophy by Giacomo Vaccario (on behalf of Giona Casiraghi, inductee #10), at the Conference on Complex Systems, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in September 2016.

Giona Casiraghi is the 10th winner of the Zachary Karate Club Club prize. He was awarded a distinguished trophy by Filippo Radicchi (inductee #9) for his use of the Zachary Karate Club network in his talk at the Complex Networks Satellite workshop of the StatPhys26 Conference, in Marseilles, France, July 2016.
