sharing this here for when i inevitably reference "what is this feeling? i do not want it" in my future maul & devon works
"what is this feeling?" in the sense that maul has rarely formed any relationships with someone that didn't serve him in some way. he grieves his mother -- his brother -- but only because they are people sidious took from him, not because he had actual familial relations to them (spitballing here) (new sw fan and still learning maul's character). will he ever make a genuine connection with someone? would he even recognize those feelings?
"what is this feeling?" in the sense of devon learning to use the dark side. utilizing her anger and passion is foreign to her: will she enjoy it? will her hunger for vengeance become a black hole, just like maul?
Do you need a voice actor for some of those fics?
i'm not officially looking for one, but i'd be honored if you wanted to voice act some of my writing! i don't have money for a commission (if that's what you were thinking of) but if you wanted to cover a few of my lines out of the kindness of your own heart...who am i to stop you? :3c
both of these are from my first fic! the last one is definitely my favorite :> but i enjoy the alliteration and rhythm of "cast to the corners of civilization" in the former, too.

If Devon starts using more florid vocab next season I’m gonna lose my mind
I know this post was about how sinister it would be for Maul to influence her communication style, but I just keep thinking about that "I grow tired of your vaccilations" moment where the teens give Maul twin blank looks, because that's a real deal SAT vocab word, and Rylee is a jock from a fascist/police household, and Devon was homeschooled while being a child soldier. Maul isn't going to stand for any functionally illiterate apprentices or apprentice's boyfriends/minions, he is going to give those kids a bigger working vocabulary as part of their internship with Crimson Dawn if it kills him
im just imagining devon agreeing to become his apprentice, first day of training she's trying to hype herself up to be evil but then maul just gives her a 40 book reading list and refuses to teach her any force stuff till she finishes it

LONG TIME NO STAR WARS!
so yeah, I’m really digging Maul: Shadow Lord. Episode 3’s fight with Devon had one of the best beats and visuals I’ve seen in an animated Star Wars show since Ahsoka’s and Maul’s fight in the Clone Wars finale! This shot especially stayed with me, so I wanted to recreate it a bit more abstraclty!
Also I love Devon, she’s the best grumpy baby!

as much as I love badass characters pushing through pain to fight, I also love when they hit a point where they just can't. something structural is wrong or broken, so they can't stand. their muscles are simply too weak and overworked to hold them up. their bloody hands slip off the handles of their weapons, they can't aim through their vertigo or tunneling vision, they shake from blood loss or exhaustion even if not from fear. they've just reached their limit, and no amount of willpower will change that!
told my therapist why i like maul & devon so much and what themes i'm exploring thru writing abt them and she said "what are you learning about yourself through that?"
