#2 Dirty Harry Series

Genre: Action, Crime, Thriller

The Dirty Harry Film Series consists of Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, The Enforcer, Sudden Impact, & The Dead Pool. These films follow Harry Callahan - a bitter and alinated, but effective officer. Callahan is famous for lines such as, “You've got to ask yourself a question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?” and  "Go ahead, make my day."

#3 Hang ‘Em High

Genre: Western

Hang ‘Em High is Clint Eastwood’s very first “Spaghetti Western” . A group of vigilantes think Jed Cooper is a murder and cattle rustler. Once they catch him they lynch him and leave his body in a tree. However Jed doesn’t die. Jed, a former lawman, returns to his work, now with the intent of hunting down his would-be-killers and bringing them to justice.

#4 A Fistful of Dollars

Genre: Western

Part of Eastwood’s “man-with-no-name” collection, A Fistful of Dollars centers on a nameless man who arrives in a town divided by a war between the Baxters and Rojos. This man stays in town with goals unknown, but with obvious schemes that involve these two groups and some money.

#5 Coogan’s Bluff

Genre: Action, Crime, Thriller, Comedy

Coogan, an Arizona deputy sheriff, doesn’t do well with authority or “the book.” His boss sends him to New York to excort a prisoner, just to get him out of his hair. Coogan’s impatience and craftiness gets him the prisoner early, but  said prisoner manages to escape. Despite being told to go home, Coogan is determined to stay and find his escaped prisoner.

#1 Toradora!

Genre:  Drama, Comedy, Romance, Slice of Life

Toradora is not a normal “shojo”. Ryuuji Takasu is the leading male in this show. While Ryuuji “thug-like” face makes people afraid of him, he in fact loves such things as house work. On the other hand we have Taiga Aisak. She many look cute and doll like, but the way she acts is anything but. The Palm-top Tiger and the Dragon, this is their story.

#2 Wolf Girl, Black Prince

Genre: Comedy, Romance, School

Who knew that some pride and one bad choice could lead to so much trouble? Erika Shinohara just wants to fit in with her friends who all have boyfriends. The problem is that she does not have one. This causes her to lie, which in turns gets her tangled up with Kyouya Sata, the school prince. The truth is, Kyouya is anything but a prince, especially to Erika, but how long will that last?

#3 Skip Beat! 

Genre: Comedy, Romance, Showbiz, Drama 

“Hell has no fury like a woman scored” could be the official tagline for Skip Beat.  Kyoko Mogami is a hard worker that would do anything for Shoutarou Fuwa. That is until, one day, she over hears him taking about her. What he says unlocks a part of Kyoko that should never have been released. What happens next is proof that you should never mess with a girl’s feelings.

#4 Monthly Girl’s Nozaki-kun

Genre: Romance, Comedy,  School

There is a mate for each character in this anime. They may not see it, but we do. The show predominately follows Chiyo Sakura, who likes Umetarou Nozaki. Little did she know that he is a mangaka. After she tries to confess to Nozaki-kun, Chiyo finds herself helping him with his manga and meeting ALL kinds of people.

#5 Okami-San and Her Seven Companions

Genre: Action, Comedy, Parody, Romance

We were not sure if this show should make it onto the list, but, alas, here it is. Ookami Ryouko is our leading lady. She is spunky and a bit of a tough cookie. Morino Ryoushi is in love with Okami-san and has a fear of being stared at. They are both members of a place called Otogi Bank, a club at the high school they attend. Individuals go to Otogi Bank to ask for a favor, but, in turn, you have to pay back the favor when they ask. 

Marvel Universe 

Genre: Action, Superhero/Superpower, Comedy, Drama, Fantasy 

At least one of us here is in love with this universe, okay, more than one.... That being said, how can you choose just one for a list like this? You don’t. Thus, we recommend most of the movies that are in the Marvel universe. There are a few here and there that aren’t worth the time it takes to watch them. Marvel films are arguably the most well done of the super hero universes. There is just about every kind of super hero that you could wish for.

Batman Begins Trilogy

Genre: Action, Crime, Drama

None of us here are big fans of DC Comics, but we agree that the Batman Begins movies are really good. They keep the dark feel, but with out having the melodramatic tones of the earlier Batman movies. This adaption not only has a good feel, but also good characters and scripts. Also, the bad guys are awesome, just sayin’.

Scott Pilgrim VS The World

Genre: Action, Comedy, Fantasy, Romance

This is another movie that we really love. Scott Pilgrim is a “normal” guy. By normal we mean a completely awkward nerd. After meeting a girl that he instantly takes a liking to, and who also ends up liking him, he is thrown in to a battle for this love. He has to defeat the “ex’s” of the aforementioned girl. This is not done in normal action fight sequences, but rather uses in a video game style combat.

Kick-Ass

Genre:  Action, Comedy

This is yet another great set of movies. In these movies there is a “normal” boy who wants to become a super hero. So, that is what he does. It starts when he pieces together a horrible costume. Eventually, he meets others and, before you know it, there is a whole group of super heroes and a some bad guys. The whole thing is full of awkwardness that only serves to makes it awesome.

Hellboy

Genre: Action, Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi

Warning: you either like Hellboy or you hate it. (We have both in our group)  In 1944, Rasputin and the Nazi's (ah the classics)  open a portal  to deep space monstrous entities, with the intent of having them help defeat the Allies.  An Allied team is sent to destroy the portal. They discover an infant “demon,” dub him "Hellboy," and one of the team adopts him. Sixty years later, FBI agent John Myers is transferred to the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, where he is paired with Hellboy... Then all “hell” brakes loose.

So without further adieu, THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU to all you beautiful nerds, who mistakenly thought it was a good idea to follow us!

There were many moms that could not make it onto our last list because they are the worst moms ever to exist and we felt the need to share them with you. 

Soul Eater

 Medusa experiments on her own child repeatedly in order to achieve her goals. She locks the child in a darkened room whenever she fails a test with an abusive demon sword over and over, until she can create the perfect personality for her malicious plans. Abuse, isolation, complete lack of affection, experimentation; this mom is just fails all the tests for being a human being, let alone a mom!

Erased

Akemi Hinazuki had a crap life, a really crap life. However, this in no way excuses her behavior towards Kayo. This woman is physically and emotionally abusive. Akemi feels overwhelmed, abandoned, and angry at the world. She then takes all her frustrations out on her daughter. Akemi is more concerned with her own reputation and emotional needs than with even the barest of her daughters physical needs.

Skip Beat!

Kyoko’s Mom, Saena Mogami is a lawyer like Haruhi’s mother, but that’s where the similarities end. Saena is cold, driven, and expects perfection from everyone around her, her daughter not excluding. Not only did her behavior drive a young Kyoko to feel stupid and worthless, but also she then all but abandons Kyoko (only paying Sho’s parents a stipend to care for the girl). We don’t want spoil too much, but suffice to say, at least one of these viewers really wants to file a restraining order against Saena on Kyoko’s behalf.

Hunter X Hunter

Kikyo Zoldyck is the Zoldyck Family’s mother. She adores her son Killua, but, as an assassin herself, Kikyo desires Killua to be cold and deadly. She tries desperately to keep Killua separate from outside influences that may make him stray from this path. Her desire for Killua to excel as an assassin is so great that she is even is delighted when Killua turns this coldness on her. So, while Kikyo loves Killua and desires for him to succeed, her idea of success leaves Kikyo here on our list of bad mom’s.

Btooom!

Yukie Sakamoto might have started as a good mom. She cared about Ryota and tried desperately to get him to grow into a productive young man. However, even if Ryota’s behavior was terrible and Yukie was suffering mentally, what becomes of their relationship is horrifying. Yukie nominates her son to “disappear” into a murderous and fatal game. Yukie may have once been a decent mother, but she makes a mistake we can’t quite get over.

Hanasaku Iroha

Satsuki Matsumae just barely made this list. Ohana’s 38 year old mother is a complication for us. On one hand, she is childish, flighty, and seems to pass her daughter off to a childhood home she herself hated. On the other hand, she loves her daughter in her own way and accepts (if not understands) her choices. Satsuki might not be a BAD person, per say, but we would argue that she really just fails to live up to her role of mom. In the end, Satsuki might have been an okay older sister, but she (unintentionally?) often does a number on Ohana’s life.

Skip Beat 

Taisho’s Wife/“Okami-san” is the wife of the owner of Darumaya, one of Kyoko’s early part-time jobs. From the start Okami-san seems to have unofficially adopted Kyoko. She is greatly concerned about the physical and mental health of this young girl. Though reluctant to over-step her bounds, Okami-san treats Kyoko with all the love and care that the girl seems to have been missing out on. To Okami-san, Kyoko is someone she wants to nurture and celebrate.

Fruits Basket 

Kyouko Honda’s life was a mess. A loveless home, wild teenage years, and when she finally finds love her husband dies; nothing in life seems to have been set to make Kyouko be good mother. However, she pulls herself from deep depression to focus on giving her child a good and happy life. As she lay dying, her last thoughts are a deep concern that she didn’t give enough love to Tohru. Her love and devotion make her death all the more tragic; and her memory continues to guide Tohru.

Wolf Children 

As a college student Hana, falls in love with a werewolf. They have two children together. Sadly the father is killed while hunting and Hana is left to face the difficult life of being not only a single mother, but also the mother of two half-wolf children who cannot hold their human forms. Hana gives up EVERYTHING to raise her children alone, in a countryside far from home.

Ouran High School Host Club 

 Kotoko Fujioka, when alive, was a loving wife and mother and one darn fine attorney-at-law. This woman could do it all and more. Intelligent, kind, loving, open-minded, and even a good cook; Kotoko wanted the best for her family. As a student and as a lawyer, her peers and teachers all expected amazing thing from her, but she opted to take a smaller job that allowed her to help local citizens, instead of a more high profile position with lots of money. Though she died while her daughter was in her formative years, she remains a pivotal influence on Haruhi’s life.

Princess Jellyfish 

Mother Kurashita wasn’t an unusual woman, but she loved her family. Though suffering from poor health, she cheerfully spends her days sharing her knowledge and love right up to (and past) her hospitalization. Even while she lives her last days, she spends them answering and encouraging her young daughters questions and ideas. It’s her mother’s dream of designing Tsukimi a jellyfish inspired wedding dress that gives further strength to her daughters passion, art, and inspiration.

God Eater

Abandoned by her fellow humans and with no hope in sight, Mother Utsugi is faced the dilemma of whether to take on another mouth to feed (one that can provide no benefits to the survival of her small family). There’s no doubt for her, an abandoned child is something she WILL NOT abide. Mother Utsugi embraces Lenka as her own, to the point that she not only hides the fact that they are unrelated, but even sacrifices her very life so that he can live. She raises Lenka and her own biological daughter, Iroha, with equal love and attention.

Sadly, we could not use every anime mom that was a great mother... So, here’s to all the amazing anime mom’s (mentioned or not).

As we were deciding who should be on the list, we discovered that moms are not very common in anime and good ones are even harder to find. But we feel that we have some pretty awesome moms. So, with out further adieu, here is our list of Awesome Anime Moms.

Fullmetal Alchemist

Trisha, Izumi, Pinako, and Mrs. Bradley are our top picks for this show. That is not discount any of the other mothers in FMA. This show is full of strong women that are ready to lay it on the  line for their children without the distinction of biological blood lines. That is why we believe that every mother in this series is amazing.

Erased

Two of us here believe that Sachiko Fujinuma is the best anime mom ever. But, we may be biased due to our love for this series. Either way this mom is not only frighteningly in tune with her son, but she also raises her son by herself, teaching him independence while always backing him up. She is also a mom that plays a major roll in the series. We’ll avoid spoilers, but by the end of the series we discover shows just HOW amazing a mom she is.

DN Angel

Imagine you're a woman in a family line with the most awesome secret ever, but your gender excludes you... Now  imagine you have a son who will get to partake in your dream. Met Emiko Niwa, this is her life and not only will her son inherit what she was denied, but this secret could endanger Daisuke, her only child. But does Emiko flail about? No! She dedicates what must be many hours of her day to making her house an ever changing training zone and still manages to raise Daisuke with love and joy as a “mostly single” mom.

Natsume’s Book of Friends

Touko Fujiwara was unable to bear children. She and her husband Shigeru lived together as their own small family unit. When she meets Natsume (a distant relative) she offers immediately to take him in (no matter the rumors about him). Touko adopts Natsume and raises him (dealing with all the weird and troubling events) as her own. Touko does not yet deeply know Natsume, but she does everything in her power to help him learn to trust and love again. Touko may not have given birth to Natsume, but, to her, Natsume is truly her son all the same.

Ponyo

Risa/Lisa works long hours while raising her son Sousuke. Yet, even when her son brings a strange girl home in the middle a horrendous storm, Risa/Lisa concentrates first on making sure everyone is happy, safe, and warm. Risa/Lisa encourages her son’s imagination and is genuinely willing to listen to him with an open mind. Is it any wonder that she made it to the list?

Toradora

Yasuko Tasasu, the self proclaimed eternal twenty-three year old, may seem out of place on this list. Yes she is not your traditional mother, but Yauko would do anything for her son. She even lies about his father to keep him from feeling hurt by the man’s abandonment. Sadly where Yauko really shines is at the end of the series, and we don’t want to spoil that for you. It is suffice to say that Yauko is doing everything she can to raise a strong, capable son; who can be his own man.

#1 Aoharu x Machinegun

Genre: Action, Comedy, Military(Airsoft)

Justice, Airsoft, battles, gender confusion... Just what IS Aoharu x Mchinegun? Awesome, that’s what it is. Hotaru Tachibana’s extreme sense of justice causes confrontation with anyone engaging in malicious acts. One day Tachibana hears rumors of a best friend being scammed by the host of a local club. Tachibana sets out to punish the scoundrel. However, Tachibana somehow ends up challenged to a "survival game" by Masamune Matsuoka (the host in question).The first person hit by an airsoft bullet loses.

#2 Princess Jellyfish

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Slice of Life

Kurashita Tsukimi and her nerdy roommates were living their isolated and obsessive lives in peace. All was as expected in the “nunnery” when a late night walk past her favorite Jellyfish’s storefront tank changes everything. Tsukimi not only gains a jellyfish (her personal obsession), but also their lives are overturned by the introduction of a new, brash, and fashionable Kuranosuke.

#3 Ouran Highschool Host Club

Genre: Drama, Reverse Harem, Romantic Comedy, School

Haruhi Fujioka just wanted to study in piece. However, opening the door to music room three unveiled the Host Club in all their insanity glory. Taken aback by the hosts’ behavior, Fujioka stumbles backward and breaks an expensive vase. To pay off the debt incurred, Haruhi is forced to served as the host club’s dog, and that’s how everything starts....

#4 Ranama 1/2

Genre: Martial Arts, Romantic Comedy, Urban Fantasy, Slice of Life

Ranma Saotome travels with his father Genma to the Bayankala Mountain Range in China for a training journey. While there they accidentally fall into the cursed springs at Jusenkyo. Genma falls into the spring of a drowned panda and Ranma falls into the spring of a drowned girl. The curse on the springs causes anyone who falls into one of them to take the form of whatever drowned there whenever they are exposed to cold water. The curse reverts when they come in contact with hot water until they are again exposed to cold water.

Playing under the alias of Tsukasa, a wavemaster wanders a MMORPG called The World. However, after being unable to log out properly, Tsukasa begins to notice problems. Facing jumbled memories, a large blank space from before the game, and The Crimson Knights’ suspicions, Tsukasa’s complications just keep piling up.

#1 Black Butler

Genre:  Historical fiction, Black comedy,Dark fantasy, Psychological thriller

Ciel Phantomhive, aka "the Queen's Guard Dog," follows in the footsteps of his family, regulating Victorian Englands underworld for the Queen. Ciel is assited by his butler Sebastian Michaelis, whose abilities make him one hell of a butler. Whatever it takes, if “the Queen’s Guard Dog” is on the job, it will be completed. However, there’s more to Ciel and Sebastian than the average eye can see. Please note that opinions on the best way to watch Black Butler vary and we will be updating our “how to watch” section with a few suggestions. We also highly recommend the manga.

#2 Blood Blockade Battlefront

Genre:  Action, Supernatural, Urban fantasy

Leonardo Watch was normal. Yet when just outside the barrier of Hellsalem’s Lot (former New York City, which is now connected to the Beyond) everything changes. He is given the "All-seeing Eyes of the Gods" at the cost of his sister's eyesight. Desperate to fix things, he moves to Hellsalem’s Lot (where he faces the violence and illogical nature of a city of everyone from the average Joe to creatures from another dimension.

#3 Amatsuki

Tokidoki has failed his high-school history class and is sent to a high-tech  museum where they recreate the Edo period virtually to do make-up work. However, he's attacked by two supernatural beings while he is wearing his simulation goggles and loses vision in his left eye. He’s saved by a girl named Kuchiha only to realize that he's no longer wearing the goggles and is somehow trapped in what was once a virtual Edo.

#4 Dream Eater Merry

Genre:  Action, Fantasy

Ten years ago Yumeji gained the ability to see the dream auras of other people around him by looking through his fingers. Yumeji uses this to predict what type of dreams people are likely to have next. Now in high school, Yumeji’s own dreams have recently left him puzzled. Keeps falling asleep only to dream of being chased by an army of cats, night after night. Things only get even more complicated when he meets Nightmare Merry, a dream demon trying to return to her own world.

#5 Erased

It started with a kiss, how did it end up like this?  Yamada is the delinquent in his high school. However, one day, he falls down a flight of stairs into the face of the ace student. When he wakes up they discover they somehow swapped bodies.  Next thing Yamada knows, he’s tied up in all kinds of  insanity with his lips at the center of things.

#2 Charlotte

A comet called Charlotte passes near Earth for a short period of time every 75 years and drops a odd dust onto the Earth. A portion of the young children who inhale this dust will then gain superhuman abilities when they go through puberty. Yuu Otosaka is one such child. He gains the ability to possess others for little while. Otosaka planed to us his ability to trick his way into the life he desired. However, he is discovered and forced him to transfer to Hoshinoumi Academy, where the student council works to keep ability users safe from groups who want to exploit (or inhumanely research) their powers.

#3 Kokoro Connect

Taichi, Iori, Himeko, Yoshifumi, and Yui are all a bit odd, but being members of the Student Cultural Research Club gave them common ground. However, their high-school lives are interrupted when they begin to randomly swap bodies with each-other. The mysterious "Heartseed" puts them through several other strange situations that they must figure out on their own. Kokoro Connect also has light novels and manga to it’s name.

#4 D. N.Angel

Niwa Daisuke is normal, thank you very much! However, on his fourteenth birthday, the wacky ways of his family are explained. Daisuke has had a crush for awhile, but when he finally tries to declare his love he fails. Now, whenever he thinks of her, the Niwa secret activates and he soul/body-swaps with Dark Mousy- a legendary art thief. If you enjoy D. N. Angel, I recommend you read the manga (which has an alternate storyline).

#5 Valvrave the Liberator

Valvrave the Liberator is space-aged, revolution fighting, vampiric, mecha riding, body swapping insanity - and that’s just the first two episodes.
