Given your definition of abuse, isnāt everything abusive?
āBumping or brushingā- Thatās harassment. Thatās abusive. Iāve definitely bumped and brushed into people. Iāve even bumped butts.
Staring. Thatās harassment. Thatās abusive. I canāt even tell if Iām doing it.
Being āhot and coldā is emotionally abusive. Even if sometimes you canāt find the words, or canāt help freezing, or are too sad and numb and exhausted to text back.
Slamming doors is abusive. Itās intimidating. Even if itās not intentional. Maybe you propped up the broom uncarefully and someone heard it fall and thought you threw it. Does it really matter if it has the same effect?
Donāt even get me started on meltdowns.
Overdosing is abusive when an abuser does it. Iāve had people see the results of my self harm.
Touching people is harassment if they donāt want it. Women are socialized to say they want it even if they donāt. Just read their cues. Itās obvious.
Avoiding touching people, freezing when people touch you- That can be a symptom of bigotry. Donāt say you donāt think you did something wrong. Youāre not the one who gets to decide.
Denying the feelings you obviously have- thatās abusive, it makes people crazy and miserable. What if you donāt have the feelings you obviously have? It still makes people crazy.
Not preventing someone else from being abused, even if you didnāt know how-Being a bystander is pretty similar to being an abuser yourself.
Weaponized weakness is abusive. The definition between this and regular weakness is vague.
Weaponized incompetence is abusive. The definition between this and being unable to do something is unclear.
People donāt believe that I could think this way. They donāt think I could believe the things they said, in the way that they said them.
Here is what you do if youāre an abuser.
Donāt say, āIām sorry.ā Abusers apologize to keep people with them but it doesnāt make anything better.
Donāt say āI didnāt mean to.ā Itās not about your intent.
Donāt explain. An apology is not an explanation.
Donāt defend yourself. People can deal with you the way they want to deal with you. Itās called the consequences of your actions.
Donāt ask questions. Itās not anybody elseās job to teach you how not to be abusive.
Keep educating yourself. Keep reading about this online. Donāt point out when the things you are reading demand impossible things using words that donāt make sense. Donāt point out when the people making the demands seem abusive themselves.
Abusers only do kind things to keep people with them. Itās the kindness that makes it worse.
Abusers only say they were abused when they want to hurt other people.
Abusers should not be doing activist work.
Abusers donāt get opinions on what is and isnāt abuse.
Abusers should honestly shut themselves up in a small cabin in the woods and leave us alone.
Abusers should have no peace, no rest, should not be happy or safe when soĀ many people are not.
Love is not abuse. You do not love the people you abuse. You shouldnāt say you do, because that would be lying.
It doesnāt matter if you āmeant toā.
Certainly donāt cry about it.
Donāt. Get. Angry. This. Proves. Our. Point.
