Do you see how these males have the clinical âI have to say that your labia is normal because if I donât then I will be out of a job for literally enforcing beauty standards that require mutilation to adhere toâ
And then follow up with advising them to seek out labiaplasties?Â
Is there any greater contradiction?Â
Women have been manipulated into thinking that when they donât like the look of things on their body itâs because THEY PERSONALLY donât like it, when in fact it has come from a wide range of very specific and unmanageable beauty standards imposed by patriarchy. If it wasnât for the standard of âbig boobs are betterâ then women wouldnât be getting breast implants. If it wasnât for âlong labias are grossâ or âmeat curtainsâ then women wouldnât be getting labiaplasties. See how these males are saying âif you donât like it then get it changedâ when they literally recieve economic profit from womenâs insecurities based on misogynistic standards that men NEVER have to adhere to? They arenât asking those women if deep down they really hate their vaginas, theyâre asking what theyâre insecure about based on society.
Males should NOT be womenâs health âexpertsâ.
First off, these are ALL from plastic surgeons. Which are not in any shape or form âwomenâs health experts.â Also, âmales should not be womenâs health expertsâ is a REALLY gross thing to say.â There are MANY male gynecogists who are very good at their job and there are many who are not. There are MANY female gynecologists that also suck. Having a vagina doesnât magically make you more knowledgeable about the pathology and physiology of the female body (tell me about all the hormones involved in a menstrual cycle and what can go wrong, if you donât believe me) or a better doctor. A good doctor realizes that their body is FUNDAMENTALLY different than their patientâs. Even if I have a vagina and a procedure doesnât hurt me, I cannot tell another woman that it wonât hurt them.Â
And secondly, it is actually 100% unethical to NOT tell your patients about their options. It is also illegal. Like, you can literally lose your license, be fined, even end up in jail. Even if you do not agree with said option. Like a âpro lifeâ doctor who does not tell a woman about abortion as an option can go to jail.Â
Lastly, although not 100% ânecessaryâ, labiaplasty CAN actually improve the quality of life for many women. There are women who have very long labias that make tight pants uncomfortable because they get pinched. They may have painful sex because they get stretched or caught. Not even going to mention the mental health aspect. See doctors are taking care of a PATIENT, one PERSON. Doctors arenât out there trying to heal society. They arenât using said patientâs suffering to change society. Thatâs gross and WRONG. (Like the âpro lifeâ doctor who wonât refer for abortion. Gross. and. wrong.) The PATIENT always always always comes before your personal beliefs. If they donât, then you should not be a doctor.
do you think cutting and cauterising the labia will make it more comfortable?
They didnât ask about âoptionsâ, they didnât believe that their vulvas looked normal. The second one even points out that the tiny labias in porn are skewing peopleâs views of female anatomy enough the labiaplasty procedures are on the rise.
None of them mentioned discomfort or pain, just that they didnât think they look normal. Labiaplasty shouldnât have come into it yet these fucking men are all concerned with recommending it instead of asking important questions like âdoes this actually impact your day to day life in a significant way?â Itâs like a woman asking if her periods are normal and having a hysterectomy recommended to them.
Donât be silly. Cutting and cauterizing something is LITERALLY how surgery is done. It is not inherently bad. And, can have HUGE benefits for someone. You know, after it heals... Once a thing is cut and cauterized, it heals. And when it does, yes it can be more comfortable.
And, plastic surgeons tend to be assholes. Thatâs not really up for debate. A lot of them will look at a person (more often women, but of both genders) and say, hmmm... you have some wrinkles there, I could take care of that, etc. We all know that. Some are good though. And, they absolutely are a necessary part of the medical field. Absolutely. Without plastic surgeons, we would have no reconstructive surgery. Many hand surgeons are also plastic surgeons and make sure the hand heals properly so it can work.
My point is that labiaplasty is not always a bad thing in and of itself. For some women, it IS very beneficial for their quality of life. The society that pushes women into being afraid their vagina isnât ânormalâ is bad. The society that pushes women into wanting breast implants is bad. Breast implants arenât always bad. (After mastectomy, for example, or if the breasts are very different in size and negatively impacting a womanâs life).Â
So, rather than attacking a specific procedure when some people DO benefit from it, maybe attack a societal problem that makes people seek it who do not need it and/or would not benefit from it.
