I bought Thomas More's book of "Epigrams" in Spanish, and it turns out the publisher is Opus Dei. I'm fed up, really.
he would write a satire about them lol
Another day on TikTok where they say The Tudors is not historically accurate (it isn't) and recommend Wolf Hall instead.
"If you like history, you didn't watch The Tudors." If you like history, watch it, especially if you know how it all happened in real life because it's hilarious. Or just watch it because you feel like it; there's no such thing as historically accurate fiction, and The Tudors never takes itself seriously in that regard.
And no, Wolf Hall is not historically accurate just because it is more serious.
I like how Cromwell is portrayed in Wolf Hall and I like the men's clothes and the English hoods and that is about it.
I think Wolf Hall is a good show. Semi accurate but it's not the best. I think it is important to remember that Wolf Hall is from the point of view of Thomas Cromwell so obviously he is going to look like a good guy and those he didn't like are going to look bad. I still think Wolf Hall could be better.
I do agree. Also the Tudors isn't as bad as people make it out to be. It's not historically accurate but it fun and better than a lot of other series out there. I rather watch the Tudors than Reign or Spanish Princess đ¤˘
People on TikTok are talking about "cyberphobia."
You don't have a phobia of technology; you're afraid that your expensive gadget will break down and that getting it fixed will cost an arm and a leg.
Bro. People on tiktok need to look up definitions for words and what words actually mean. It would probably solve 99% of it's problems

One hundred years ago this day, President Calvin Coolidge spoke at an event that celebrated the sesquicentennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Coolidge was a great man and underrated President. Below is an excerpt from his speech that day, also his 54th birthday.
***
About the Declaration there is a finality that is exceedingly restful. It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776, that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance over the people of that day, and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern.
But that reasoning can not be applied to this great charter. If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final.
No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people.
Those who wish to proceed in that direction can not lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers.

OCism is also killing good writings. Because writers are creating characters first before having themes and goals. That's why your story sucked.
You have a character sheet and all sorts of details but you can't write a plot to save your life. Your pacing is dogshit.
This is one of the mildest opinions I have about writing. You people are absolutely not ready for my truly scathing takes. Stay strong.
I'm gonna be honest, if a Tumblr post mildly shitting on what you perceive as a flaw you have, has the capacity to make you give up on pursuing writing, then you're the type of artist who's going to be unwilling to improve or learn and will forever create bad art, which is still art, but not something I think even the people around you would lament on "missing out". The alternative is also you're the artist who will double down on said flaw just to "spite the critics", which if you also embody the average fandom tumblr-user, will probably result in the most tone deaf racist art imaginable. So also, not a big loss.
Bad art has worth. Even if it is just to the artist, that is enough. I agree with the writing advice here and I agree that you shouldn't get so discouraged by a single tumblr post that you quit forever, but what is this nonsense that it's only worth making things if they're good? Or even more ridiculous, that if you express your discouragement here you're on the fast track to racist trash???
Oh if no one will say it, I will:
Op is being a fucking asshole for no good reason and is butthurt at pushback.
I can say it in a way that isnât completely intentionally hurtful to novice writers or people who write character first.
Writing stories with cohesive plot is a whole different wheelhouse from oc creation and character lore development, so itâs going to be tough to nail the storytelling youâre used to seeing from authors you admire.
If youâre going to turn your beloved OC into a story, try and think of a plot as robust as your character before you commit to writing if you want it to come out cohesive. Other folks arenât going to know your OC or their lore as well as you, and taking that for granted is tough to get over! I would try and think of the timeline of your OCâs story in a way that may overlap with pacing similar to works youâve enjoyed before. Or look for stories that are similar to what youâre trying to do and learn from them!
Most of all, never let some insensitive dickhead dictate what you try and accomplish. Donât let bullies say mean bullshit and then backpedal to saying youâre the sensitive one, actually. Your stories deserve to be told and you deserve constructive advice that doesnât tear you down for trying.
ok so both Op and yourocdoeswhat have good points imo.
Being able to create characters vs being able to create plot are two different skills that are similar but are not the same. The ability to come up with overall themes (and worldbuilding) is also part of the venue diagram of similar skills that are not the sams
If you are not good at making characters, your story with suck regardless of how good your plot is. If your plot not good then your story will suck regardless of how good your characters are. If your themes suck then your plot AND characters will suffer which will cause your story to not be the greatest it can be.
This does not mean you have to be perfect at either skills. It just means all aspects need to be somewhat good. (This depends on how much you write, what you write, why you write, and how long have you been writing stories for)
Your story idea can come from a character idea but it can also come from a plot idea or a potential theme
it does not have to be good the first time around. That is what drafts are for. That is what rewriting the story later is for.
If you want to give advice to the internet don't put people down or encourage those with a lack of skill to give up forever.
people should be allowed to have original characters and write fanfics
To all of the newbies, your works will suck at first. AND THAT IS OKAY. Jake the dog said ir the best "Sucking at something is the first step to being sort of good at something"
My writing sucks too. But I still work on it when I can because I want to get sort of good.
I actually like your response. It does depend on why someone was writing.
The only reason why I brought up racism in my tags was because there were some people, who were defending OP, that were calling those who criticized OP racist, just because they criticize someone of color.
I understand that there may have been racists attacking OP but just because someone is criticizing a take doesn't mean they are racist.
I was scrolling through the replies and reboots and kept getting annoyed at the few who were pulling the race card out bc this writing advice isn't about race. It is about a skill that anyone, not just a certain group of people, can develop.
I don't tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, or anything like that on my blog and I am not starting now.
I even agree with their take slightly. I was just criticizing it (and yourocdoeswhat) slightly and giving broad advice to newbies. (Or atleast trying to.)

Thomas More Executed at Tower Hill
Thomas More was executed on July 6, 1536, at Tower Hill in London after refusing to accept King Henry VIIIâs Act of Supremacy. Once a trusted advisor and Lord Chancellor of England, More became one of the most famous figures to resist the kingâs break with the Roman Catholic Church.
Moreâs refusal to acknowledge Henry VIII as Supreme Head of the Church of England was rooted in his religious convictions and loyalty to the papacy. His silence on the matter was ultimately interpreted as treason, leading to his arrest, imprisonment in the Tower of London, and eventual execution by beheading.
Remembered both as a martyr by Catholics and a symbol of conscience by many others, Thomas Moreâs death marked a turning point in the English Reformation. His legacy endures through works like Utopia and his reputation as a man who chose principle over survival.
rip Thomas More you would have loved tumblr and jschlatt
//I like the idea of Steven not knowing how to drive, like, everyone is under the impression that he has a couple sports cars that he drives around but then the one time he is asked to drive he's just like "lol, no, I fucking HATE driving and I get carsick easy" and turns out he doesn't even have his drivers licenes (I mean why drive when you have a sick ass Skarmory and Metagross that can fly you literally anywhere)
//Bonus points if Steven is shockingly really good at racing games (also scares everyone with how fast he can whip the steering wheel, probably a good thing he doesn't actually drive)
He drives around in a cheap car and only 1st and 5th gear actually work.
May (when she gets olderand drives his car) tries to convince him to just pay for a functioning car whose dashboard doesn't turn into a Christmas tree.
Each time she gets behind the wheel she sees a new light that didn't realize existed anymore.
Steven complains about how fragile cars are and still just gets beaters
Evil as fuck steven
I love evil steven stuff but I always think about it and he would be absolutely terrifying as a villain. He would be an example of a child who burned down the village that didn't love him.

the thing about ai witch hunt is that instead of spreading awareness about why and how ai can be harmful, people focus their energy on harassing other people instead. so instead of actually achieving something, fandom space and the internet as a whole just became twice as toxic because people have found a â¨noble way⨠to tell other people to off themselves and get praises for it. youâre not helping. youâre part of the problem
the only thing that people do is harass eachother instead of spreading awareness and finding solutions.
People say cancel culture doesn't exist but in reality it does, it just goes after nothing burgers instead of actually important stuff.
Dont use Gen ai tho. It is steals art from actual artists and it does cause harm to the environment. If you have to use it for a job then limit how much it.
