Define 'Interesting'

       ”Wash says we’re wheels up in ten, Doc.         Best get your gear together. Would hate         for it to end up all over the floor.”

It’s just after dinner time, but the doctor was just a bit more sluggish than the rest of the crew, only finishing up with his meal just as the captain enters the room.

Gently, he dabs at his mouth with a damp cloth and folds it before neatly setting it atop his recently cleared plate. When he lifts his head in attention, he gives a small smile. The man really did have an odd way of expressing his care.

   ❝ —- Captain, I appreciate your concern, but I’ve been        here long enough to know to keep things secure at all        times and not just when we’re preparing for ‘wheels up’        time. And I ——- ❞

Brows twitch and an uncertain noise escapes from his throat.

He’s not terribly confident with that answer, especially when he was sorting through his supplies earlier. His tongue darts out to moisten his lips before he stands, hands making a soft 'thump' noise as he places them both on the table to assist in removing himself from his seat.

Sometimes the Doc was just a bit too proper for Mal's tastes. Guess which one today happened to be? He stands there, pale eyes watching the medical man with unrestrained annoyance. It was one thing for  Mal to know Simon was smarter than all of them put together, it was another thing for the boy to constantly balk everything he said.

Or maybe that was the way Mal tended to see it.

Someone was always appreciating something, but never seeming to do anything about it. The ship was going to be airborne soon, whether Tam secured his supplies or  not. Mal figured he should at least give the boy a chance to put things in order.

Last thing any of them needed was Simon moaning about how his favorite hypodermic had been shattered or some- thing because no one had given him any warning about impending flight.

Mal held back a snort as his arms looped lazily over his chest, waiting for Simon to jump into a different gear. There he went. 

He and his sister were certainly the weirdest crew Mal had ever taken on.

          “Wha’d you do? Flash something shiny at her?”

              “You’re gonna wanna put that right back            where you got it and back away slowly, son.”

Gave up everything to free his sister from that place. Go from being a doctor on the Central Planets to hiding on the fringes of the system. There’s not many would do that.
