“Yeah?” She holds his eyes, but slowly stretches out one hand. There, against the nearest wall, holly sprouts and creeps along. Eira grins. “I’m faster.”

She’s saved from the task of finding some reply that doesn’t let that pent up emotion escape. Eira grabs onto this new topic all too willingly — not only to leave the old one behind, but because it’s something she’s been eager to do. “I was thinking the same thing,” she counters, matching the surreptitious smile in his eyes. She turns, making her way merrily to the door, voice echoing off the walls back to him. “Stay right there!”

“Up Saint Nick’s arse.”

“Nice, John. Real festive.” A pause. “I’m decorating.”

Now he most certainly had to get her a gift as well, and that was still more delicate. “We do not make a large celebration of the holiday here,” he said, a little cautiously.

“That’s okay. You don’t need to get me one.” A pause. “— but you will have to wait before you open yours. It’s not yule time, yet.”
