I never believed in “breakdowns” but about three years ago I had what I think was one :) It was like my mind didn’t have the strength or tools to cope with the seemingly endless amount of things coming at me. Some negative, some challenging, some new, some old. It seemed to be a bit of everything and I just imploded. I was spinning. It was like I had too many things running on my computer at once with not enough space and the system just shut down. It was time for a reset whether I liked it or not. I think my Grandma passing was the tipping point. I was not emotionally strong enough to handle all of these things and because of it, any thought, positive or negative, my mind would simply just chase after it. I felt like I had no control. Whatever thought popped into my head, I was like a dog chasing after it. What I didn’t understand at the time, but what I’m truly grateful to understand now, is that in those lowest moments, it was the beginning of my breakthrough. I had a choice in that moment. Do I succumb to this and become a victim, or do I rise up and go to WORK on myself to become my BEST self. NEVER a reader as I didn’t have the patience for it, I became a VORACIOUS one. It was like something just ignited inside of me and I just wanted to get better….in ALL areas of my life. I can’t explain it other than the fact that if it had to do with bettering my life, I wanted in. Mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, psychologically, financially, personally, professionally. My mission had begun. A HUGE part of this mental strength training I credit to Andy Puddicombe and his Headspace app. They totally demystified what I always thought meditation to be…a voodoo magic kind of spell…I couldn’t have been more wrong. What Andy and his team have helped me learn through this life changing app, is this idea that we are not our thoughts and we are not our emotions…They are simply just passing by like cars in the street. They are always changing. Thank you Andy and thank you Headspace from the bottom of my heart, for helping me to learn this life changing skill that I continue to practice today and will going forward.
