My parents have shown me the inner workings of a loveless relationship. They have resented each other for as long as I have known, and Iāve never been sure where it all stemmed from. Itās literally impossible to picture them in a happy, loving, carefree relationship and itās hard to believe they were ever a normal couple. I suppose it must have been that way at some point though. Thereās dysfunctional and then thereās straight up mean, and my Dad can be so spiteful to my Mum for no apparent reason. He makes jokes at her expense and expects me to entertain them which is awkward. I donāt understand why they didnāt divorce a long time ago. Today I lost his car keys, he didnāt think to ask me about them, and flew at my Mum in a rage, calling her a bitch, senile, etc. I repeat, I lost the keys. I did. Yet itās all my Mums fault as usual. If I ever have a wife and children, I have learned never to show such disdain for each other in front of the kids, these are horrible values to instill in a child. They will grow up pessimistic, cynical, and skeptical of relationships. I fell in love once. I wasnāt ready for it. I doubt it will happen again. If my parents are showing me a model of my future, then I want no part of it. Perhaps itās better to stay alone. Iām used to flying solo, I can handle it.
