Happy birthday to Jongdae, on the year of his lucky number 💛  Here is The Language of Flowers. In 1934, when she was five years old, Audrey Hepburn was sent to boarding school in England. She spent her holidays with a coal miner’s family in the country. There, she learned the names of all the flowers and never forgot them. A few years later during WWII, gardening for pleasure was not possible. As Audrey’s son Luca Dotti explains: “In the winter of hunger (when supply lines to Holland were cut off), there was no food. On May 5th 1945, Holland was liberated – one day after my mother’s birthday, so really, after the most terrible winter of her life, the liberation came with the spring, and with spring came food.” Flowers with all they represent were very central to who she was. A rose and tulip were named after her as well. Audrey and Jongdae are two of my greatest inspirations and role models. Their love, kindness, and empathy are what I strive to emulate. I love that flowers connect the two of them and figure so greatly in their life philosophies. I’m so grateful for all Jongdae has given to us dandelions. I hope I continue to bloom as beautifully as he does.
