Never Lived a Life of Hate

My name is Ellen Dean, but folks just call me Nelly.

I used to work as the Chief Butler for the Lintons at Thrushcross Grange, and before that the Earnshaws up at Wuthering Heights.

Nowadays I'm part of the 'New League of Nine Litterateurs' o'er in District 14's neck of the woods.

While I'm still as busy as ever, this new position has me a bit more time to twiddle my thumbs, and idle hands are the devil's tools after all!

I kid, I kid. Heaven forbid a lady have a blog to write in her spare time.

and yet,

you fear that.

you fear heathcliff. fear ◼️◼️◼️◼️◼️. fear tucking them into bed, fear washing them every morning and every night. fear singing them lullabies. fear growing attached since you think you know that they'll end in tragedy.

you are wrong.

it was you who caused your own charges' tragedy.

and now, many of your other selves suffer with guilt and griet.

except for one, maybe a few, where nelly dean is known for truly never living a life of hate.

that nelly dean will never be you.

The only fear I had was asuaged the moment I was released from that manor's service.

The fear my life would be in infinite connection to those children, that all I exist to do is relay his sorry story.

I'm free now. I've no reason reason to hate, as I cut those ties cleanly.

I am a better Nelly Dean, now. One who is free from her role as the narrator of a doomed tale...
