this is the part where every other survivor fights back, bashes their fists against michael's chest, tries to bite him or headbutt him. this... is something completely new. it stirs a strange feeling in his belly, fire swelling between his thighs. he's never felt this way before, and it irritates him to experience something new with someone as irritating as david.

There is a confusion that settled in him once 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐄 released him . His body ached . Where the blade had sliced into his flesh started to radiate a deep pain . Most of those who the Entity had pulled into her realm did let them go , sometimes , but those like this one never did ( not on purpose ) . It is enough of a stupor to keep him from rising to his feet immediately . when he does raise , Michael is still the superior in height . It was , in a way , a kind gesture . As messed up as that came off in his head .

𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 about the silence or the release was trusted by King . Why should it be ? The voice inside his head uttered to him , her dark whisper almost pleasantly spoken if not for the disembodiment of it . Had it been his own thoughts , distorted by the Entity ? Or had it been Her ? Neither mattered in that moment . There was only him and there was only Michael . His fingers reached up , touched the warmth of his own blood and how tacky it felt on his fingertips .

King wasn't going to trust this lapse in normal reaction from the man . ❛ Don't be such a cocktease next time , yeah ? ❜ Follow through with it , he thought . Before Michael could gain sense , King pushed from his position and dived past the man's legs . Tucked and rolled , he came to his feet to take a slide over the nearest pallet and make it for the gate right as the last gen popped off .

Zarina could name a few survivors that had a tendency to perform reckless actions during the trials, and she always tried to convince them to think before acting (with varying degrees of success). However, she believed David was the worst offender of them all; she couldn't count how many times she'd seen him run head first into danger before thinking about the consequences of his actions.

"Perhaps we should cool our jets before we get ourselves into trouble." By 'we', Zarina mostly meant David. She expected her suggestion to fall on deaf ears, but she still had some hope that David would listen to her even if it was just this once.

the trial had been a game . they were played with at every turn . swiped at to be injured but never brought down . no one had been carried to the hooks . the pig wanted to play her game well that day and king's rage had nearly boiled over . king had nearly abandoned her to search for the pig in the tall grass . but , he had paused at her words . the red had not taken over and logic still had a foothold . king hadn't be pleased with it but he stepped back and crouched down next to her with a clenched jaw . four gens down and king started to think the pig had a deal with the entity to block the gate until the totem could be found . ❛ fine , what the fuck we doin' 'ere then ? ❜

The thoughtful gesture was both unexpected and appreciated by Zarina. Before this point, she found David intimidating because of his interesting choice of tactics during the trials and his outward personality in general, though maybe Zarina had judged him too harshly.

"Thanks, David." A smile formed on Zarina's lips as she grabbed the bag of skittles from David's hands. She couldn't even remember the last time she saw a bag of skittles. "I've felt better, but I'd say that's the story of my life nowadays. How are you?"
