Car is finished! I've run a new cable from the battery with a 30A fuse and wired up a distribution board (of sorts) in the dashboard to power all the switches and re-used the control cable for the old CD stacker as a power-on circuit for the amp, as well as re-using the existing RCA leads for amp input.

Accessorising

The custom decals were finished today and the car is starting to look far more legit than I'd ever expected.  Peter Jackson from Adhesive Lettering Service (07 3288 4195) is a miracle worker.  We're officially one step closer to RallyTimes™.

Out and about

Rear spoiler from a JDM ST205 Celica GT-4.  Badge from an R34 GTR.  Shopping list from the grocery store. Original GT-FOUR decals.  And a Wakaba, because clearly we don't know what the hell we're doing.

Weight reduction, breathing, and control

1. Aluminium pedals.  Zip tied in place at the top because the bolts wouldn't fit around the existing pedals.

2. Gutted the interior because apparently I don't like being comfortable.  The electric window switches are held in place with more zip ties.

Day 2 complete.

Some totally appropriate stickers ordered from eBay Someone really did a crazy hack job on this car.  Shit like I've never seen before.  Wires fused together and shorted out.  Everything held together with electrical tape and some twists.  Multiple circuits just cut off.  It's all been patched back together and unsurprisingly enough everything is working again.

It's begun already.  The battery died.  I managed to jump start the car at home, but it wouldn't start again even after half an hour of driving.  Some kind soul gave me a jump start, so I headed straight to Super Cheap Auto and got a replacement.  I spent 15 minutes trying to get the old battery out using a multi-tool, then caved and bought spanners for $8.  There's a lesson in here somewhere about 'right tool for the right job'.

Because we're heading into the desert, spending more money on a battery seemed like a good idea, and supposedly this model would fit also.

Supposedly.

In order to get a new one in I had to remove a probably-vital piece of mounting plastic that raises it off the mount platform.  I'm sure batteries don't need to be kept cool ... right?

People have been asking 'why team NBN?'.

The answer is simple.  We started with something that was good in theory, and looked pretty great.  Now we're going to actually try to take it across Australia and totally destroy it in the process.
