tldr; NazlÄą Elmas, a 34-year-old creative soul, owns The Elmas Atelier, a cozy family-run jewelry store in Devil's Junction. After her parents' tragic passing, she returned to her hometown following a period in Europe and the Middle East, where she reconnected with her roots. NazlÄą loves flowers, the rain, and writing stories, but she dislikes too much extravagance and prefers simplicity. While she focuses on preserving her parents' legacy, mysterious individuals have started asking strange questions about her familyâs past, hinting at secrets she has yet to uncover.
b i o g r a p h y ;
Nazli Elmas was born and raised in Devilâs Junction, where her familyâs jewelry store, The Elmas Atelier, had been a cornerstone of the community for decades. Growing up, Nazli spent countless afternoons in the shop, enchanted by the sparkling gemstones and intricate craftsmanship. Her parents, Ayla and Cemil Elmas, were warm and hardworking, instilling in her the value of creating meaningful, timeless pieces that told a story.
As a child, Nazli loved spending time in her familyâs garden, surrounded by flowers. She developed a passion for writing, often penning short stories inspired by the world around her. She was a curious and creative child, but also grounded, preferring simplicity and authenticity over extravagance.
After finishing high school, Nazli moved to Turkey to reconnect with her roots. She attended BoÄaziçi University in Istanbul, where she studied literature and creative writing. The vibrant culture of the city and its rich history left a lasting impression on her, inspiring her to pursue her writing while absorbing the beauty of her heritage.
After graduating, Nazli spent several years working as a freelance editor and travel writer. During this time, she had the chance to travel across Europe and the Middle East, all while embracing the creative energy and diverse cultures she encountered. Nazli was able to call Ankara, Dubai, Kuwait, Paris, Milan, Munich, Budapest and Prague home during the various times of her travels. Although she was far from Devilâs Junction, the pull of her family always lingered in her heart.
A few months ago, however, tragedy struck when her parents were killed in a car accident. Grieving and yearning for a sense of belonging, Nazli returned to Devilâs Junction to take over The Elmas Atelier. Upon her return, she noticed strange individuals appearing around the store from time to time, asking cryptic questions about her family and their past. While Nazli is unaware of her familyâs connection to the powerful Zhao family involved in jewel trading, the unusual inquiries have sparked a growing sense of unease and mystery.
Now, Nazli is dedicated to running the jewelry store, honoring her parentsâ legacy while also confronting the shadows of their untold past. Surrounded by flowers and the rain she loves, Nazli is determined to uncover the truth, even as she continues to pursue her own creative passions.
Positive Traits:Â
Empathetic: Nazli has a natural ability to understand and share the feelings of others, which makes her a compassionate and caring individual. She listens intently and tries to help others through their struggles, often offering a comforting presence when people need it most.
Creative: Whether itâs through her love for writing or her work in the jewelry store, Nazli is highly imaginative. She has an eye for beauty in simplicity, and her creativity helps her find new ways to express herself and honor her familyâs legacy in her own unique manner.
Negative Traits:
Overthinking: Nazli tends to get caught up in her thoughts, often overanalyzing situations and conversations. This can lead to self-doubt and indecision, making it difficult for her to take risks or make choices without first dissecting every possible outcome.
Guarded: Although sheâs warm and empathetic, Nazli has a tendency to keep her emotions and vulnerabilities hidden. This emotional distance sometimes makes it difficult for her to fully open up to others or trust them completely, especially when it comes to deeper, more personal connections.
h e a d c a n o n s ;
Nazli finds peace in rainy days and often sits by the shop window with a cup of herbal tea, watching the raindrops streak the glass while sketching new jewelry designs or jotting down story ideas.
She loves collecting flowers and pressing them into notebooks. Many of these pressed flowers are tucked into books or framed around the store as subtle decorations.
Every jewelry piece sold at The Elmas Atelier comes with a handwritten note from Nazli, detailing the inspiration behind its design. Itâs her way of adding a personal touch to each piece.
She keeps a box of old, unsent love letters she wrote during her time in Europe. She loves receiving handwritten things.
Her home and shop are always filled with the soft glow of candles, her favorites being floral or earthy scents like jasmine, sandalwood, or rose.
Nazli is a voracious reader and has an impressive collection of secondhand books, many with handwritten notes or dedications from previous owners. She loves imagining the lives of those who owned them before her.
Since her parents' accident, Nazli has developed a subtle fear of driving. She walks to most places in Devilâs Junction or uses her bicycle, finding comfort in the slower pace.
Many of her jewelry pieces are inspired by her life experiences, such as a necklace shaped like a crescent moon to reflect her time in Turkey or a ring etched with rain patterns to honour her love for storms.
She has an unfinished novel tucked away in her writing desk. Though she doesnât share it with anyone, itâs a deeply personal project she works on in her free time, hoping one day to finish it.

christian was in rough shape. anyone could see that with just one look, that's for sure. he didn't know whether his brother was dead or alive, and he hated the fact that he felt as thought there was nothing he could do. his tired eyes glanced up at nazli as she spoke. he really hadn't noticed her until this moment and he hadn't much been in the mood to talk. "yeah," he started, "how do you think i feel?" he huffed out, his jaw clenching in response, "he's my actual big brother and i can't- i don't know what i'd do without him."
Nazliâs chest tightened at the raw pain in Christianâs voice. She stepped a little closer, keeping her tone calm but firm. âI know⌠I canât imagine what this must feel like for you,â she said gently, her eyes locking with his. âBut I want you to know that youâre not alone in this." She hesitated for a moment, her voice softening. âGavinâs strong⌠and so are you. I know it feels impossible right now, but I'm sure weâll find him.â She knew Christian would definitely been feeling it tenfold compared to Nazli but she was still extremely worried about the other man and didn't even know how to cope without getting in the way somehow. "When did you last...hear from him?"
Nazli was more than a chapter in her lifeâshe taught her the importance of unconditional love, patience and acceptance. It not only helped her move on, but it built the foundation of her relationship with Ezra. It taught her to love authentically from the heart and not from the mind where logistics come into play. What mattered is the connection between her and Ezra and what they meant to each other.
âAgreed. An unforgettable teaching moment.â said Cynthia with a nod. âBy all means, Iâm totally fine with that. He probably would get an understanding as to why things were the way they are and who knows? It might put him in check.â She then flashed her a playful smile before reaching into her wallet to pull out her credit card to pay for the items. âThanks Naz, I canât wait to see the finished product! You can go ahead and ring this through."
NazlÄą chuckled softly, shaking her head. âIt really was, wasnât it? Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons we didnât know we needed.â She glanced at Cynthia with a warm smile, her eyes reflecting genuine affection. âAnd honestly, Iâm just glad youâre getting a piece of that too. You deserve to celebrate something real and meaningful with him.â Her grin turned teasing as she processed the payment and handed the card back to Cynthia. âJust donât let him get too full of himself nowâwe wouldnât want him thinking heâs cracked the code to keeping a good woman just yet.â Then, more introspectively, she added, âItâs kind of incredible seeing you embrace it all⌠the love, the trust, the patience. Youâve really come a long way, Cynthia.â She nudged her lightly with a playful wink. âNow all thatâs left is for you to show up, let him see it, and maybe let fate do its thing.â
He wasnât going to admit it, but he was a little stunned by the mix of amusement and sincerity in her voice. His face was beginning to hurt from how much he was sheepishly grinning. He ran a hand through his hair. âWait⌠so youâre saying all this time, Iâve been auditioning for the âEmbarrassing Myselfâ Olympics for nothing?â A chuckle, though he wasnât sure if he was nervous or relieved. âAnd Marisolâs⌠noticing me anyway?â What a foreign concept. It felt too good to be true. âOkay, okay⌠thatâs⌠wow. Thatâs⌠really good to hear.â
His sister and mother had always told him that if he listened well, women werenât nearly as complicated as he thought. Though, even with Nazliâs reassurance of the situation, he knew he wouldnât have come to the same conclusions as her. Marisol made him nervous and excited all at once. He felt silly, not being able to handle it all and having to consult others, but he was truly at a loss. Nate leaned back a little, eyes tracking her smirk as it widened. âAnd here I thought I had to choreograph every move like I was directing a ballet starring my own awkwardness. Present⌠right. I think I can do that. Maybe.â
A mischievous glint flickered in his eyes as she nudged him. âButâŚâ He cleared his throat. âNow that you mention overthinking wedding colours,â He had, but he wasnât going to tell her that, âI might just need a bit of the other advice too. You know⌠just in case I want to panic preemptively." He lightly shrugged. "But seriously, real advice sounds like exactly what I need right now. Teach me your ways, oh wise one.â
âAuditioning for the Embarrassing Myself Olympics? Honestly⌠youâd probably take gold,â she teased, nudging him lightly with her elbow. âBut yes, it turns out all that panicking and overthinking? It wasnât wasted. You just needed someone to tell you that being present is worth a little chaos now and then.â She tilted her head, smirk playing on her lips. âAnd Marisol noticing youâŚyes, she has to be. That in itself is proof that you donât have to choreograph every awkward gesture or rehearse every line like youâre performing a ballet. Some things just happen naturally when you stop trying so hard. Trust me, Iâve seen it.â Her tone softened a fraction as she added, âBut yes, if you want my wise ways⌠youâll need patience, a little self-trust, and the ability to let go of pretending everything has to be perfect. And maybe⌠maybe a little confidence sprinkled in, even on days you donât feel it." She laughed again, lightly tapping his arm. âNow, come on. Letâs tackle those wedding colours before you start planning your next performance piece. Iâll guide you, I promise⌠as long as you actually listen this time.â
"Okay, deal," Sahana said, squeezing Nazli's hand back as they walked toward the massage rooms. "You don't have to be difficult for wanting to stay with me, you realize that, right?" She felt her shoulders relax just hearing her friend acknowledge all the unspoken stuff between them, because honestly it had been eating at her too. The husband remark made her laugh even though it twisted her stomach a littleâthere was so much Nazli didn't know about Sterling and everything that came with loving someone from the other side of this war, but maybe today could just be about them without all those secrets hanging over everything. "You're right though, let's just let it all go for once. I've been overthinking everything lately and it's exhausting." She pushed open the door to the massage area, already feeling lighter just being here with someone who got her completely. "I'm claiming the room with the best music and if our masseuse can survive our commentary about literally everything, she deserves a medal and the biggest tip we can manage." The afternoon stretched ahead of them full of eucalyptus steam and terrible jokes and the kind of friendship that didn't need explanations, just presenceâexactly what she needed to remember that some things in her life were still solid and uncomplicated.
Nazli let herself laugh, the kind that started soft but lingered in her chest, easing something heavy she hadnât even noticed sheâd been carrying. âIf thereâs one thing Iâll never apologize for, itâs wanting to spend time with you. So, noââdifficultâ doesnât apply here.â She squeezed Sahanaâs hand again, almost absently, because she needed the reassurance as much as she was offering it. The truth was, she had been afraid of taking up space, of asking too much from people ever since her parents died, as though grief had made her more of a burden than a person. But with Sahana, that fear softened.
She followed her friend into the massage area, letting the warmth of the place wrap around her. âHonestly? Overthinking feels like my second language lately. Maybe we both need to trade it in for something else. Like⌠sarcasm and spa days.â Her lips curved into a wry smile as she glanced toward the rooms. âAnd yes, absolutelyâweâre giving whoever ends up with us the tip of their life if they can handle two hours of our nonsense.â Her tone was light, but in the quiet space between words she realized how much she treasured thisâthis steady, uncomplicated tether. Sahana wasnât just a best friend; she was proof that Nazli could still belong somewhere, even when everything else in her life felt fractured. âIâm glad weâre doing this,â she added softly, almost to herself, as though naming it made it more real. âIt feels like the first time in a long while I can just⌠exhale.â

at least her friend understood where she was coming from. hannah didn't want to stay at the diner any longer than she had to today, especially not after everything she'd been through. "i think you're probably right. thank you, you know, for understanding where i'm coming from." she breathed out and shifted toward her car, glancing toward the woman as she spoke. she posed a valid question and honestly, she didn't want to settle at the diner but she wasn't sure where else she could go. "i have a savings. i want to do something with my life, with my money but i don't know what..."
"You do not need to thank me Han, I'm glad I was around today." It did prompt her though to ask the question she'd posed to her friend. There was so much more she felt like Hannah could do and achieve and Nazli wanted to help see her there. "Do you see yourself being your own boss?" Because truthfully, Nazli had never seen herself as an owner of the jewelry store but now that she was--she realized she did enjoy it. And maybe that could be true for Hannah as well. "If the diner is getting to be a lot--you can always come work at the Atelier? Your skills in customer service would transfer well."
"A few months and you're already talking about not being scared of where it goes? That's huge for you," Hayat said, grinning as she settled back into her chair. She could see how different Nazli looked when she talked about this guyâlike she'd found something she didn't even know she was looking for. The part about not having to prove herself every day really hit home because wasn't that what everyone wanted? Someone who just let you exist without having to constantly earn your place in their life. "And yes, I absolutely want you to spill everything because this is the best news I've heard in forever," she continued, taking another sip of her drink. After all she'd experienced, it made perfect sense that Nazli wouldn't want to rely on someone else. But it sounded like Desmond was proving himself worthy of that trust, which was exactly what her cousin deserved after everything she'd been through.
She let out a soft laugh, shaking her head slightly as a blush rose to her cheeks. âI know, it feels⌠almost unreal, honestly,â she admitted, tracing the rim of her glass with a finger. âIâve spent so long bracing myself for disappointment, or expecting that any moment Iâd have to prove I deserved someoneâs time, their attention⌠their trust. And then he just⌠shows up. Consistently. Quietly. Without making me feel like I owe him something for existing.â She paused, taking a slow breath, letting the thought settle. âItâs not that I havenât wanted it beforeâhell, Iâve wanted it my whole lifeâbut I didnât think it was possible for someone to make space for me without me constantly questioning it.â Her smile softened, almost wistful. âAnd the fact that a few months in, Iâm not terrified of what this could be⌠thatâs a lot for me to process. But it also feels like maybe, finally, Iâm allowed to let myself feel safe. And happy.â Looking at Hayat, she shrugged with a sheepish grin. âSo yes, Iâll spill everything. Itâs not just newsâitâs like finding a part of myself I didnât realize was missing, and I swear, Iâve never felt more⌠understood.â
Now he was amused by the challenge presented as he looked forward to seeing how she could prove him wrong. âI bet you are.â he replied with a tiny smirk. âAnd I look forward to when that day comes.â Rolling his eyes at the crimes against humanity comment, he shook his head and placed the popcorn on his lap towards her and held onto their drink. âAdd drama queen on your long list of accolades,â he teased. âAnd I also better be the only one, sweetheart.â When Nazli answered his question, Desmond nodded in understanding and till this day he was still amazed by her travel stories. âYou practically saw the world and youâre saying this moment tops it? Iâm flattered.â He then kissed the top of her head and chuckled while urging her to snack on the popcorn and lemonade. âThank you for spending time with me. These moments matter and Iâm grateful to even have a chance to experience it with you.âÂ
Nazli popped a piece of popcorn into her mouth, eyes glinting as she studied him, a soft smile tugging at her lips. How is he still managing to make me feel this calm in the middle of an actual circus? she thought, shaking her head with a tiny smirk. âYou know,â she murmured, nudging him with her knee, âif being soft is your secret weapon, congratulations. Itâs working. But donât let it go to your head.â She grabbed the lemonade, taking a sip, pretending to ponder seriously. âThis moment? Way better than any crazy trip Iâve had. Morocco, Europe⌠none of it compares.â And truly now that she was thinking about it Nazli knew that the next crazy trip she went on--she wanted this very man by her side.
Her gaze softened, and she let her voice drop just enough to make him lean in, âItâs you, Des. You showing up, being ridiculous with me, letting me steal all your popcorn⌠itâs the little things that make it feel like magic. And yeah,â she added with a teasing glint, âIâm keeping score. Youâre soft, but youâre mine, so I guess Iâll let it slide.â She leaned back, letting a quiet sigh escape, feeling herself relax fully into him. âThank you,â she murmured, more to herself than him. âFor this⌠for us. For letting me feel like I can just exist with you and not have to worry about being perfect. Itâs⌠rare. And I need that.â She grinned mischievously, lifting a piece of popcorn between them. âBut donât get too comfortable. Iâll still judge you for something or the other later.â

Location:Â The Farmer's Market
Time:Â 11:24 AMÂ
The farmerâs market was usually one of Inoriâs favorite ways to spend a morning. Wander the stalls, sample a few things, pet a dog, maybe haggle for sport. Today shouldâve been the same, except heâd had to bring some business with him. Still, he wasnât about to let that ruin the fun; if anything, it made the game all the more interesting. He tapped the price sign with one finger. âFour bucks a bunch? Câmon, you can do better than that.â He then picked up a carrot, turning it over as if he were seriously inspecting it. âTell you what - make it two-fifty, and Iâll take some daikon too.â There were no daikons on display. âIâm making oden tonight! It's been a while, so need the good stuff.â It sounded perfectly harmless, just a man trying to score a deal on vegetables, but the way he said it made it feel like there was more on the table than just organically grown root crops.
Nazli had been wandering through the various stalls, her basket nearly filled to the brim with all her goods. Except she needed some mushrooms and so she was just going through them when she heard someone trying to haggle for carrots. It had her discretely rolling her eyes before turning to the vendor. "Some peope don't easily realize that if they want to save a few bucks they should go to the grocery store. The farmer's market sells the freshest most organic produce which is why it costs a little more," she turned to the man now, her eyes instantly being drawn to his hair. She was unfairly judging him now, thinking someone like him didn't seem like he frequented farmer's markets often. "Do you make it a point to haggle at the stores too?"
Nate blinked, unable to hide his surprise with a tinge of guilt. He expected more teasing from her, just like Desmond had earlier. He thought, at first, that they'd share that streak of mischief, but now, he knew that it wasn't a fair assumption. âWow. Okay,â he said, letting out a breath he hadnât realized he was holding. He scratched the back of his neck. A nervous tick. âThatâs⌠actually really nice to hearâŚâ Another sheepish smile. As grateful as he was, he felt embarrassment bubbling in his guts. âI guess I never thought of it like that. Usually, I just think Iâm embarrassing myself, you know?â He chuckled. âThanks, Naz⌠For not making me feel like a complete idiot.â He shrugged before nudging her lightly with an elbow. âBut seriously, I want to get this right with Marisol. So, if youâve got any tips on how to not totally mess this up, Iâm all ears⌠especially since I⌠sheâs well⌠a client?â
She tilted her head, studying him with a mix of amusement and sincerity. âNate, you do realize youâre probably the only one in this entire situation who thinks youâre embarrassing yourself, right?â Her tone was light, but there was truth beneath it. âMarisol probably doesnât think so, otherwise you wouldnât still be in the picture. Youâre reading every little thing you do like itâs some big misstep, when really⌠itâs probably whatâs making her notice you in the first place.â She leaned back, letting a faint smile tug at her lips. âAnd for the record, Iâm not in the business of making people I care about feel like idiots. Iâll leave the merciless teasing for when you actually deserve it.â Her gaze flicked to his, steady and encouraging. Although if Nazli knew her boyfriend had been the one teasing Nate earlier, she probably would've piggy-backed off of it just to tease the man in front of her for a bit. âIf you want to get it right with her, stop trying to choreograph every move. Just be present."
Then, a knowing smirk crept in. âAnd yes, I heard the word âclientâ in there. Which means you should tread carefully, but⌠not so carefully you disappear. Youâre already in dangerous territory, so you might as well make it worth the risk.â She nudged him back, her grin widening. âNow, tell meâdo you want my actual advice, or do you want the kind where I help you overthink it until youâve mapped out your wedding colours? Because I'm game for both.â

Seeing Nazli on board with his future plans had Desmond excited for what their time together would be like. Her acknowledgement though, thatâs where it got him as he couldnât help but lean down to kiss her softly, a testament that he appreciated her support and understanding. As he pulled away, he smiled and nodded in agreement, âWell said, beautiful.â He then sighed as he gently squeezed her waist, she would make him cave in public, but he was doing his best to maintain a composed demeanour. âIs that so? Cause I thought I had a pretty good idea. Donât tell me youâre holding back on me now?â he curiously asked while taking another step forward in the queue.Â
Shaking his head, he was already expecting that they would share and chuckled at her reasoning behind it, âGreat minds think alike.â he mused. âSharing is caring babe, I already made my mind up before entering the queue. Besides, like you said, sharing makes everything taste better.â When they got to the front of the line, he ordered both items and paid for it before pulling off to the side to wait for it to be made. âThanks for convincing me to come out today. I thought itâd be a one and done meeting with Nate, but you know how to get a stubborn man out of the house.â When their order was ready, he took the bag of popcorn and lemonade before making their way inside to seat themselves for the acrobat show. "Have you ever seen these kinds of shows before? Cause to be honest, I haven't. This is a first for me actually."
Nazli felt the corners of her mouth lift when his lips met hersâsoft, certain, and full of that unspoken understanding she was starting to crave. The âWell said, beautifulâ comment made her warmth deepen, but it was the way his hands stayed at her waist, grounding and steady, that really got to her. She tilted her head at his next question, eyes narrowing playfully. âOh, so now youâre fishing? You think Iâm holding back?â she teased, the smirk tugging at her lips betraying that maybe, just maybe, he was onto something. âMaybe I am. Maybe Iâm saving a few surprises for when I really want to knock you off your feet.â Her tone was light, but there was a spark in her gazeâhalf challenge, half promise.
When he mentioned sharing, she let out a soft laugh. âSee? I knew youâd get it. You canât hoard popcorn and lemonade, thatâs practically a crime against humanity.â Her fingers brushed against his briefly when he paid, and though she didnât say it out loud, she appreciated the gesture more than she expected to. As they stepped aside to wait, she glanced up at him. âYouâre welcome, by the way. Iâm just glad I could lure the mysterious Desmond out of his fortress of solitude. I should probably add âstubborn-man-wranglingâ to my rĂŠsumĂŠ.â She paused thoughtfully for a second before continuing, "never mind--you're the only one I'd want to wrangle anyways." Walking into the venue with him, bag and cup in hand, she followed his gaze toward the massive acrobat rig. âThese kinds of shows? Only ever on TV,â she admitted. âAnd once in Moroccoâmy aunt dragged me to one in Marrakech. It was wild, like something straight out of a fever dream, but Iâve never forgotten it.â She smiled faintly, the memory warm and oddly vivid. âStill⌠seeing it in person here with you? Yeah, I think this is going to top it.â
It was at this moment that Cynthia realized how much of an influence Nazli had on her. She taught her how to really love and showed her what she was missing out on. As her first love, she was grateful that out of all the people in the world, it was her and to still be able to maintain a relationship after their breakup was not only rewarding, but a gift that she wouldnât take for granted. This was the closure that they needed and she was happy that they were both able to give love another chance. Now theyâre in their respective relationships, being valued and seeing the worth that it brings to the table.Â
âI know. I feel the exact same way.â agreed the CEO with a gentle smile. âTo have someone like Desmond who understands you and what youâve been throughâŚThat acceptance goes a long way and you two are deserving of each other. The way he looks at you and vice versa, absolutely adorable. Youâre right about all these points and I acknowledge that although we werenât ready at the time, I never regretted each moment with you. I cherished it and youâre just a chapter in my life that helped make me become the woman I am today.âÂ
Laughing at her comment, Cynthia flashed her a knowing look and said, âYou know youâre one of the few people who Iâd do this for Naz. Sounds good, thank you! Iâll wait for your text and we can go from there.â When she spoke about Desmond, the assassin listened attentively, understanding how much he meant to her in that moment. âItâs scary, having your heart in someoneâs hands, especially when life is unpredictable and weâre constantly met with chaos. However, the fact that youâre both willing to learn is proof in itself that the love you have for each other is worth it. The effort is there and Iâm certain that it will work out in the end. Sure it wonât be perfect, but he seems to be the one thatâll find his way back to you and vice versa.âÂ
Reaching for her hand, she gently squeezed it and said, âI promise to behave. Once the bracelet is finished, heâs on my radar.â Hearing Nazli express her truth about them had Cynthia smiling ear to ear as she nodded once more, âThank you Nazli, for everything.â Especially for giving her another chance in her life.
Nazli smiled softly, her eyes warm with gratitude as she squeezed Cynthiaâs hand back. âThank you, Cyn. It means a lot to hear you say that, especially coming from you.â She took a moment, letting the weight of their shared history settle between themânot as a burden, but as something that shaped who they both were today. âYou were an important part of my journey, and Iâm proud of the woman youâve become. We both had to find our own paths before we were ready to love fullyâand maybe that was the lesson we needed.â
Her gaze softened as she thought about Desmond and the fragile hope they were building together. âYouâre rightâlife is unpredictable, and love doesnât come with guarantees. But knowing that weâre both willing to show up, even on the hard days, is what makes it real. Itâs not about perfection, itâs about presence.â She smiled again, a little mischievous this time. âAnd as for Desmond, well, he better be ready if heâs on your radar. Iâm obviously going to warn him...not that we've had to exes conversation yet. But whenever it comes up, you're probably going to be a prominent feature for the conversation.â
With a gentle squeeze, Nazli added, âIâm grateful tooâfor your support, your honesty, and for this new chapter between us. Whatever comes next, Iâm glad weâre still part of each otherâs story.â She didn't know it yet but there would come a day where she'd go to Cynthia to stand up there with her at her wedding. The other woman wasn't just her ex, she was someone so much more meaningful to Nazli and knowing the other was still in her life like this--meant more than she'd be able to convey.
"I'm sorry for making you feel like you're on the outside," Sahana said, squeezing back when Nazli's fingers found hers. "That's not what I meant, and it's not fair to you either." She could see the hurt in her friend's eyes, and it made her stomach twist because this wasn't what she wanted at all. But that's adulthood, isn't it? You can't tell me you've told me everything going on in your life either. "I'm not trying to leave you out of things on purpose, it just happens when life gets exhausting. I'd hope you'd understand that everything in my world is complicated right now." Maybe that was exactly what she needed to remember, that some relationships didn't have to be analyzed and dissected until they fell apart. Some things could just exist without all the heavy stuff attached. "I know you're here for me, I've always known that. And yes, we absolutely are a beautiful mess." She felt herself relax a little, like finally admitting she was tired took some of the pressure off trying to explain herself all the time. "I don't want to get lost in the complicated stuff either, honestly. I've been doing that too much lately with everything else going on." Life was tiring, and maybe they both needed to cut each other some slack instead of picking apart every word. "So yeah, let's just be us today. No heavy stuff, just spa time and being ridiculous together. Deal?"
Nazliâs fingers tightened around Sahanaâs for a moment before she spoke, her voice quieter, more thoughtful. âI know you donât mean to leave me out⌠and I know lifeâs been a lot for you lately. I feel it too, more than I say. Sometimes I carry all this weightâthings I donât share because it feels easier to keep it locked inside.â She paused, eyes tracing the little details of Sahanaâs face, searching for the words she didnât often say. âMaybe itâs that stubborn part of me, wanting to be more than just âlike family,â wanting to be right there with you, not watching from the edges. Maybe Iâm scared that if I donât push, Iâll keep feeling distant.â Nazli exhaled slowly, a small, tired smile forming. âBut youâre right. Sometimes the hardest thing is just to let go of trying to figure it all out. To just be here, without all the questions or the weight. So⌠yeah. Letâs do that. No overthinking. No pressure. Just us, a little chaos, and maybe some peaceâeven if itâs just for a moment.â She led Sahana over to the massage rooms. "Okay this is where we let it all go, deal? Just enjoy yourself and don't think about...absolutely anything. Except maybe your husband, that's allowed." She said these words with a teasing smile.
Laughing at her comment, he gently pulled her in to kiss the side of her head and found her absolutely adorable throughout this whole interaction. âI agree. Sheâs a baddie and he definitely needs to spice up his life. It's perfect fit. In fact, I feel like they owe us big time if they turn out to be end game.â He then paused and stroked his chin as a thought came to mind, âMaybe weâll become certified match makers as a side hustle when we grow old together.â Implying that they would have a future together. He was determined at that, but he knew that with his current lifestyle it wouldn't be easy to escape it. He could only hope that he could make it out of all this and alive at that.
Seeing her wink and smirk drove him mad as he shook his head and pulled her in to grip her waist. âIf people only knew how youâre not that innocent Ms. Elmas.â Rolling his eyes, he was still firm on not participating in any circus fiasco unless it meant sitting and watching or eating good fair food. âI love that you have faith in me baby, but all this is staying seated.â When she chose her snacks, he nodded and led them to the concession stand queue to satisfy her hunger. âSounds good to me. Are you able to finish your own popcorn and lemonade or did you want to share?â
She laughed softly, resting her head against his chest for a moment before looking up at him with a teasing sparkle in her eyes. âCertified matchmakers, huh? I can definitely see us pulling that offâtwo old baddies scheming to fix up the next generation while refusing to grow up ourselves.â She smiled warmly at the thought, but the hint of reality in his words didnât escape her. âI know itâs not easy with everything youâre juggling, but if anyone can make it through the chaos and still come out smiling, itâs us.â Her smirk deepened as he called out her âinnocence.â âInnocent? Me?â she teased, fingers tracing lazy circles on his waist. âYou have no idea.â It was certainly the image she gave off, she knew that but when people really got to know her--they knew just how depraved she could be; in a good way of course.
As they stepped into line, she glanced down at the popcorn and lemonade with a playful grin. âDefinitely sharing,â she said, nudging him lightly. âI want a little bit of everythingâand honestly, Iâm pretty sure sharing makes it taste better. Besides, I get to steal some of your popcorn too.â She reached out, taking his hand in hers as they waited. âBut donât worry, I wonât make you share your lemonade unless you want to. Otherwise two straws just like sharing a milkshake in an old diner.â
âI donât blame him, you always give great advice.â complimented Desmond with a grin. Heâs a man who strictly gave credit, where credit was due and honestly, Nate made the better choice in confiding in his girlfriend. âHeâs getting the best of both worlds babe, youâre providing him genuine advice from the female gaze. As for me, Iâm simply here to build his confidenceâŚâ However, his girlfriend was quick to humble him as she pointed out what he had already said, âDamn, clocking me on date night?...You love it though, but youâre rightâŚHe needs that balance to stay grounded. Heâs a great guy and I only want whatâs best for him.âÂ
When she leaned in closer, Desmond knew that look on her face as he arched a brow, intrigued by her mischievous actions. Clenching his jaw slightly, he then scoffed and remained silent as he squeezed her hand back, matching the same firmness. â...Youâre asking for it.â he countered in a cool, calm and collected tone. âIn fact, we might have to cut this short and take it back to my place if you keep this up.â This time he broke out into a smile and laughed as he headed inside the tent for the main attraction. âNaz, baby, ain't no way I'm going up there. In fact my ass is sat on that seatâŚNow, did you want any snacks while we're at it?"
"Look at you, buttering me up like I'm your own personal tub of popcorn or something." She was very aware her statement sounded ridiculous but truly she was giddy. She was with the man she loved, enjoying a seemingly normal evening and that was enough for her. "That's true though." she grinned at him when he realized she had gotten it exactly right. "I think Marisol is perfect for him, woman is feisty in the best ways. She can keep him on his toes, don't you think?"
She didn't miss the way his jaw clenched, she loved knowing the effect she had on him. It was as intoxicating as he was to her. "I mean...I'm never opposed to that, maybe in a bit?" she said with a smirk before giving him a casual wink as she led him into the tent. "Oh come on Des, you know you'll be a natural. Light as a feather you are," she chuckled quietly before contemplating his question. "Actually yes...popcorn and lemonade for now and then we can get funnel cakes after the show, sound good?"

Nate let out a soft groan, as if sheâd just diagnosed him with a terminal case of being a loser. "Yeah, well, I used to flirt. I was good at it once," he said, lying. He always claimed he was too busy for romance, that he had obligations. âNow I canât hide the blushing and the way I make too much eye contact when someone hot laughs at my joke.â He popped a piece of popcorn into his mouth and sighed like a man burdened by too many feelings and not enough game.
âOkay, okayâher,â he said, eyes flicking upward as he thought of the best way to describe his crush. âMarisol. Sheâs⌠sheâs kind of electric? You know? Loud in the way that makes you want to listen, and funny in a way that knocks the wind out of you. Sheâs not nice exactly, but sheâs⌠sharp! Honest. She sees through people. And then sticks around anyway.â A pause. âAlso, unfairly attractive. Just. Like. Unreasonably so.â He side-eyed Nazli, already anticipating the mocking. âYou want more poetry, or is that enough to diagnose my affliction?â
Then, he quickly added, âAnd donât get any ideas. Iâm not buying you a live snake or a glitter face tattoo unless it comes with a receipt and plausible deniability. One bribe at a time.â He grinned. âBut Iâll still do it. Because I am, as previously stated, pathetic.â
Nazli chuckled softly, her eyes warm as she watched Nate unravel himself with such honest awkwardness. âYou know, itâs kind of refreshing to hear you admit to being a blushing mess,â she said, her voice gentler now. âMost people hide that side, like itâs a weakness or something to be ashamed of. But itâs real, and it means youâre alive to the possibility of something genuine.â She paused, thinking about her own moments of vulnerability and how rare it felt to just let down the walls. âMarisol sounds like someone who doesnât just skim the surface. She sounds fierce, unafraid to be herself, and that kind of honesty... itâs scary and magnetic at the same time. No wonder youâre tangled up in her.â Nazliâs gaze softened as she added, âItâs funnyâsometimes the people who shake us up the most are the ones who see all our cracks and still decide to stay. Thatâs rare, too.â She looked away for a moment, caught in her own thoughts before meeting Nateâs eyes again. âAnd about your âpatheticâ self? I think what youâre really showing is courageâthe kind it takes to admit youâre falling for someone who might just knock you off balance. Thatâs not pathetic. Thatâs brave.â
"I promise not to make fun of you for being soft," Hayat said, grinning as she settled back into her chair. "But I'm definitely going to need way more details because this sounds incredible." She took another sip of her drink, already loving how Nazli's face lit up when she talked about this guy. A bodyguard who was stoic but soft and knew exactly when to show up without being pushy? Yeah, that sounded like exactly what her cousin needed after everything she'd been through. "So he just kept appearing until you stopped waiting for him to leave, that's actually perfect timing on his part," she continued, nudging Nazli back with her foot. The part about not having to earn his love really hit her because wasn't that what everyone wanted? Someone who just let you exist without having to constantly prove you deserved their attention. "And you're my closest thing to home too, which is why I need to know everything about this relationship that's making you glow like that," she said with a laugh. "Start with how long you've been seeing each other properly because I have about twenty more questions lined up after that."
She laughed softly, a warmth spreading through her chest at Hayatâs teasing and genuine curiosity. âSoft isnât such a bad thing, is it? I think itâs something Iâm still learning to let myself be,â she admitted, the words feeling honest and a little vulnerable. âAs for Desmond... yeah, he just kept showing up, steady and sure, even when I wasnât ready to stop waiting for him to leave. Itâs not always easy for me to let someone in, but with him, it feels like Iâm allowed to just be. No games, no proving myself every day. Just... accepted.â She glanced over at Hayat, a smile tugging at her lips. âWeâve been seeing each other for a few months now â itâs still new, but itâs real. And for the first time in a long time, Iâm not scared of where it might go.â Nazliâs tone grew softer, more introspective. âI guess whatâs different is that I donât feel like I have to carry everything alone anymore. Itâs a relief, but it also makes me wonder if Iâm ready to fully trust that feeling.â She shook her head with a laugh. âSo yeah, Iâve got plenty of answers for your twenty questions â and maybe some doubts, too. But if you want to know everything, Iâm ready to spill.â
