Greetings. Released another original track today titled “Secret”. Electro, Electro Funk, Freestyle vibes. They never tell you as a creative that showing up is half the battle. They never tell you it’s impossible to improve or better something from nothing. They never tell you that the eureka moments will come to you when they come to you and you can’t predict them. Also, they’ll never tell you that it’s your journey and that it’s not a race so go at your own pace. Lastly, no one told me that Castlevania Season 3 was out back in March?! Greetings. Just a reminder that I released my original “Body” last Friday. Almost forgot to post this. This track is a culmination of my liking towards tracks like Lisa Lisa’s I Wonder If I Should Take You Home, Egyptian Lover’s Egypt Egypt, and Debbie Deb’s When I Hear Music. Whenever I create music selfishly I always end up with classic Electro, Electro Funk, BBoy/BGirl, Freestyle vibes. I know most of these tracks aren’t commercially viable and even in underground circles people don’t either really play/listen to this and equally if not more important they don’t dance to this at clubs. But f_ck it. Sometimes you just gotta create for yourself and from a place of your deep foundational influences regardless of anyone liking it. The beauty of DIYing the creative process from Ableton to Artwork to Digital Distribution. It’s a strange era of music & art. Grateful to be alive and have completed another solar rotation today 📅. It’s def a strange birthday today. Since March/Stay @ Home Orders I’ve only left my house once to do a grocery run and aside from moving the car for street sweeping or grabbing oranges in the backyard I’ve been inside. Low/Hikey if I didn’t have music I most likely would have gone crazy by now and if I lived alone I MOST DEFinitely would have gone crazy. Haven’t had any alcohol, ciggs, funnn stuff this whole time. Overall it’s great cuz my cognitive capabilities are coming back around. Waking up from the haze of being fueled by intoxicants is a breathe of fresh air, but when you’ve emerged from the smog there can be a lot of anxiety, depression, confusion, sadness, anger, and more. Not to mention all those thoughts you’ve repressed and buried in the back closet start to come out. So it can take time to readjust. Extremely grateful for music, for friends, and fam who check in. Whenever I would go to the Philippines every now and then someone would ask if I was scared of gangs since I’m from Long Beach. I would always explain that most of us fear being shot or being hurt by the police more than gangs. They didn’t understand and they didn’t have any frame of reference. Having these types of conversations with family and friends in the motherland was important to help them begin to understand what people go through on this side of the ocean. Translating some of these concepts can be difficult when the only words and phrases we learned equate to “yes i already ate, but yes I’ll eat some more and try your new pancit recipe” or “no I’m not married yet and I’m figuring out my work/career.” This set of slides came through my feed via @nivette. It’s a tool to help us communicate with our family and especially our elders who haven’t ever been to America or anywhere outside of the islands. For us Pilipinos our foundation is and always be our family. So it’s important to have these conversations so we can begin to grow our families and accept everyone fully.
