It's all a balancing act. · Happy Fri-YAYYY y'all! Everyone is always surprised I get such great shots like this on my own. It's no big secret and you can prolly do it too! · Let me warn you it's a lengthy read and does take a little initial prep. But what good things don't? · First of all I use a regular handheld weatherproof camera and I always carry around a tripod. Even if it's a crappy one. Lol (I'm using the Olympus TG-3 right now.) But I'm not against using your phone either. The cameras on phones are just as good or better than some point and shoots and you can still get a tripod for em. I played with and learned my cameras settings to pick the best overall one. You don't want to constantly be messing with your settings while you've got a fish in your net. The next setting that I believe is so crucial to not only yourself but to the fish as well. The custom timer settings. I set mine to a 3sec delay so I can get in place and for it to take 10 shots at 1sec intervals. This way I KNOW I'm not keeping my catch out of water for too long. Mind you I usually pop the fish back in the water midway through to keep em as wet as possible.💦 And last part of setup. I keep my camera and tripod in an easily accessible spot(s) with a fiber cloth to clean of that screen when a fish gets feisty and decides you need a shower. Haha · When I bring this together on the river it goes a little something like this. ✅Catch a fish! (If I'm lucky. Lol) ✅Net him and remove hook while in the net and in the water. ✅Pop out camera and tripod. Put together, if not already done. ✅Find the best lighting (think sun position), then pick the best angle. ✅Check the camera's settings to make sure they didn't change and pick a good spot. Pick a place without any grass or brush in the way. They'll appear in the foreground and can ruin the lighting = crappy pics. ✅Hit the shutter and get in place! ✅Get some awesome shots. Remember to not squeeze the fish or put your fingers in their gills. ✅Make sure fishy is strong enough to go and release!! · Hope this helps y'all get some great shots while practicing safe/good fish etiquette!! Happy Friday! Here's to the weekend and full nets! 🍻 · Looking at these pics with my waist pack and as much as I loved it at the time it hurt my back at the end of the long day. And I refuse to wear the sling with it for the same reason I didn't like my first sling pack. It's uncomfortable and in the way. Plus, me being the clumsy short girl I am, the fact that they were not waterproof was no bueno. · I now rock a full sized waterproof backpack (still Umpqua) style pack with pouches in the front and I LOVE IT!! I can fit everything I need and more!! Hi y’all! My name is Elisa. I was born and raised in South Texas. Growing up my grandfather was an avid hunter and fisherman; usually taking my male cousins with him. This sparked my interest in these male dominated sports but, unfortunately due to the fact that I was a girl kept me from being taken along or even getting the chance to go. Once I turned 18 I moved to Colorado and have made it my home. After living here a few years I realized that this is a great state for any and all outdoor activities. I started trying other sports like snowboarding and hiking but I still felt like something was missing. I eventually met my husband who also happens to be from Texas. He re-sparked my interest in hunting and fishing and pushed me into trying fishing one day by getting me all my gear and giving me a basic run down. The next day I went fishing with my best friend for the first time and was HOOKED! I am still learning the ways of the fish and the rod and I know there will always be more to learn.
