Slight Return
This would count as the second time in less than three months that Natasha had found herself face to face with a dead man. It was a feeling you never quite got used to — jarring, unsettling to say the very least. In each instance, she was forced to consider the extreme and unusual circumstances. Neither Bruce nor Nathan were ordinary men who died normal deaths. So as she approaches him, she takes the same amount of care that she did with Bruce. With just as many questions on the tip of her tongue.
"I’m going to be completely honest here, I’m not really sure how the whole time travel thing works. But I am quite sure that you’re supposed to be dead so forgive me for skipping over the formalities and going straight to the ‘how-the-hell’ part.”
It was nice that the first person he saw was a familiar face and the greeting she gave him was more than expected. "I'm gonna be honest Natasha, I really don't know myself. Definitely felt like I died." He leaned against a tree and stretched his arms out. "Time travel is a hell of a thing."
He looked up at her and figured it was best to be as straightforward with Natasha as possible. "So when I came back the last time, my consciousness was overlaid on top of my past-self." He stops to think about what order to explain things, trying to not get too far ahead of himself. "I have a..... Friend, I guess, who lives outside the timestream. He pulled my mind out just as the virus was about to win and put me back in my previous body with all of it's own unique problems; It's why I look older in case you hadn't noticed." He rested his hands on his thighs. "That's kind of the very short version of it. I could elaborate more if you need me to."
Slight Return
No matter how many times he’s done it, Nathan has never enjoyed the feeling of time-jumping. Sliding wasn’t so bad but jumping felt like something was ripping his stomach out through his nose. It wasn’t easy to move the actual physical self through time.
Cable coughed up a little stomach acid and steadied himself until his legs felt strong enough to stand up. As he looked around Nathan could see he was back in New York, but on the other side of the city from his safehouse. Getting himself upright, he slowly began the long walk home.
The first thing that came back was sound, then the light began to flood through his eyelids. The sounds weren’t very distinct at first, but then again a dead man shouldn’t be hearing anything.
"Where am I…..?" Nathan put his hand up to block some of the light.
"Slowly, Nathan, slowly. You were dead for a good long while, months maybe."
The voice was familiar but a little different in cadence than he was used to. “Blaquesmith, is that you?” He sat up slowly but cringed and clutched at his stomach.
But it was his actual stomach, not the metal he expected.
“Easy Nathan, you still need to adjust to your refreshed body.” Blaquesmith came up along side him and handed Nathan a bottle of water. “I pulled you outside the timestream just as the virus took over your body and stuck you back into the version you displaced when you time jumped. It may take a few hours for your brain to catch up but you will have none of the techno-growth you sustained fighting Ultron, just what was there the moment you jumped.”
Nathan rubbed his eyes and took a moment to process what his friend was saying. Looking back down at the tinkering alien, he smirked. “So when can I go back?”

The Final Battle || Thor, Hank, Tony, Cable
Cable watched as the combined attack connected with its target and actually got excited and hopeful as Stark threw one of his armaments into the mix. However, the hope quickly dissipated as the smoke cleared and the android was still standing. He looked around at the chaos of the drones and the hopelessness of the situation and shook his head. "It's gonna happen again...."
There was only one thing that he could do to stop the timeline from repeating itself. He didn't like it, but it was the only option left to them. "Thor," He turned to the thunder god. "Keep the drones off me, I'm gonna end this." He dropped his pistols and started walking towards the monster but turned back for a second. "Hey, if you make it through this do me a favor. Find Scott Summers, my father, and tell him I said he's an asshole...... But I loved him anyways." He didn't wait for a response and charged at the robot.
"Ultron, you son of a bitch! Turn and face me!" He leaped at the android but it caught him by the neck. Cable stared into its face but didn't flinch as its metallic grip tried to squeeze the metal that now encased his throat.
"Ah, the temporal anomaly. I was hoping to find you again. The SHIELD logs say you claim to come from a future where I ruled absolute over an almost extinct human race. How fitting you would come back to see where it all began." Ultron threw Nathan backwards and he was caught by the arms by two drones. "But first, I want you to see me crush everything you've come back to fight for." Ultron turned back towards the other three, but Nathan had other plans.
"NO! I've already watched you kill my family, the people I considered my friends, and I watched you atomize the one person I was closest to while trying to get back here..." He closed his eyes and felt his power start to weave through the atoms in the air and into the android. "They'll never know how much they meant to me, but I'll be damned if I let them all die again." He could feel the virus stirring as he focused his power elsewhere.
"And just what do you think you can do to stop me, mutant?"
Nathan could feel every molecule, every atom of Ultron and made sure his telekinesis reached around every single one. "I can kill you." His eyes opened glowing with a bright yellow shine and he ripped away from the drones as his power fully unleashed upon the android. One moment Ultron stood there and the next his atoms were scattered to the winds. Nathan sent them to flying in every direction so that they would disperse up into the atmosphere and out into the galaxy.
All around him the bots dropped like flies, and so did the time traveler. It had taken everything he had to eliminate Ultron like that, but that also meant that he had left nothing to fight the virus. Nathan doubled over clutching at his chest, feeling the virus take over his entire body. If anyone came to him, he didn't know. His eyes, ears, and mouth were taken over before he died. He passed away in complete agony, but with no way to show or express it.
At least he died knowing he had saved all his friends who would never remember him.
The Final Battle || Thor, Hank, Tony, Cable
Hank closed his eyes as he shrunk, praying to whatever higher power didn’t hate him at the moment that someone would catch him. Thankfully, Stark picked up the diminutive doctor and he was being given a chance to help. He had no choice now but to follow Tony’s orders until he could get close enough to Ultron. He was asking a huge favor of the Iron Man, and it gave him a brief moment’s hope that the other men would allow him to help like this.
When directed, Hank climbed on Tony’s shoulder and held on as best as he could- the slick metal didn’t exactly give him much to hold to. He was able to get just enough propulsion as the two vessels slammed into one another, and he scrambled up onto the shoulder of who he hoped was Ultron when the dust had settled. Oh, thank god. He could see an exposed joint within the neck and clambered into the crevice.
Once inside, Hank recognized all the wiring. However, some of it had changed place as the robot upgraded itself- or possibly as a result of SHIELD tampering? He had no clue what was happening outside, but the inside of Ultron’s head, though crowded with wire and coil and circuitry, rattled furiously. When Ultron spoke, the voice loomed all around the doctor. He knew this was a shot in the dark, but he had to do something.
He followed the blueprints he had remembered from the first iteration of the robot, and pulled a wire. Then he pulled another, and switched the two. Ultron wasn’t happy. The core of the headpiece was heating dangerously. Hank began to sweat, but he had to push on. With a tiny pocket knife, he scratched at the processing board just enough. And then finally, he removed one microchip and replaced it with another- a sample pattern of his own brainwaves, hopefully enough to slow and distract Ultron. If it couldn’t think clearly, the robot would be a bigger target.
The core continued to heat, and Hank made his way out towards the exit but soon found his foot trapped by wires. He needed to untangle himself, but he might not get the chance before the others began their attack. Quickly thinking of a way to signal to them, he briefly overrode Ultron’s motion directive and did what he hoped would make the robot give a thumbs-up signal. It was all he could do- either the rewiring would slow the monstrous machine or it wouldn’t. And either way, Hank knew he was going down with Ultron if he couldn’t get himself free in time.
Unsurprisingly Ultron held his own against the tons of metal that met his body. Which admittedly irked Tony the slightest bit. He didn’t topple, rather stumbled away. Through the HUD it looked as if Hank had hit his mark; there was some success in failure. The mad bot was yammering about the destruction of mankind again, as he was wont to do. His legion of bots were still relentless, Iron Man elbowed a few of them off, knocking the remnants into each other. He kept an eye on Ultron, waiting for Ant-Man’s signal from the inside.
Ultron struggled with his movements; the HUD indicated a quickly overheating core was the cause. He took the chance to fire at him a couple times, careful not to disturb Hank’s work. There were few chances that they would get like this. After another shot at Ultron, he spied an articulated thumb go up into the air. Tony took it as the cue that his smaller scientist counterpart had finished the sabotage. He glanced back over his shoulder, view blocked by the massing bots; searching for Thor and Cable.
Hank hadn’t emerged yet but they needed to commence an attack, preferably while they still had a window to do so. ”нanĸ geт oυт oғ тнere now!!” he warned, taking matters into his own hands, or unibeam so to speak. The light in his chest wavered and flickered brighter, taking on a high pitched whirring as it charged up and just as quickly dispersed in Ultron’s direction.
"Yeah..." He breathed in through his teeth. "I'm good, this is a.... Pre.." He groaned as he stood up. "Existing condition. Just gotta get it under control." He looked around for his cannon and saw it lying a few feet away. Nathan took a couple strides and picked it up. The ammo readout read one shot so he had to make it count.
"Thor, get some lightning ready. On three fire it with me."
Cable looked down the scope and saw Stark blast the Android. "One.." He locked in on the target. "Two.." He began the rifle's charge. "Three!" He squeezed the trigger and sent the energy blast towards it's intended target.
The Final Battle || Thor, Hank, Tony, Cable
Before this, though, he had caught a glimpse of Cable, the man who had tried not only to stop Ultron but also to kill Hank all that time ago. It stung to know that though he had seemed crazy, this time-traveler was right. ”Damn it,” Hank muttered to himself, knowing that now there was just another party present who had it out for him. At least for the time being, the biggest problem was the killer robot and his chrome-plated cronies. And assuming they made it out alive, each of the other men would surely have their own turn at Hank, letting him know just how they each felt about this whole ordeal.
Deciding the pavement wasn’t the safest place, he emerged just in time to see a lightning strike from Thor’s hammer charge straight at Ultron. Blown back by the blast, the diminutive doctor decided it would be best to let these men- who were so much more prepared to fight- handle the rough work. Resuming his size, he hurried to join the group once more, taking this momentary pause to voice his plan. ”I, ah, actually have an idea if we’re taking open suggestions,” he informed them as he ran up behind Thor. ”It might not work, but it’s the best I’ve got. I might not have much of a fighting chance here, but I do have the advantage of being the only person who knows exactly what’s going on inside Ultron’s mind. Literally.”
He pointed upwards as the dust began to settle. ”I need one of you,” he explained, “to get me close enough to land somewhere on the upper portion of Ultron’s body. Shoulders, at best. I’m going to go inside the headpiece and try to rewire some things. It shouldn’t stop him entirely but it might be enough to slow him down big time. Then he’ll be wide open.” Hank knew if Ultron went down while he was inside, it would pretty much be instant death. But better to die doing good than live doing nothing.
Taking a running leap, he didn’t leave much time for them to decide which would be carrying him towards the robot. Worse case scenario, no one helped and then he’d just die looking like more of an idiot than usual. Couldn’t hurt to try, right? ”Think fast!” Hank jumped into the air and shrunk, closing his eyes and praying someone would catch him.
Maybe saving Ant-man wasn’t the best idea. As Tony now had Ultron’s attention. He retaliated to the blow instantly, much faster than even the suits reflexed were prepared for. The metallic noise of their bodies colliding sounded in the air, knocking Iron Man out of the sky. He landed within a few inches of Hank, shame he didn’t squish him.
People kept appearing left and right, as Cable now joined the fight. That was fine as long as they were allied with them for this. Tony knew he’d probably have to save Hank from getting pummeled by the ones wishing to keep him alive and seek their own vengeance. After all he was a fellow scientist and Avenger, despite it’s temperamental production the endeavor of Ultron was something Tony respected. But fighting a god and a time traveler wasn’t something he was looking forward to, if he could even look forward to it. Ultron had consistently possessed the upper-hand during the fight and the engineer knew that wasn’t about to change without a little interference.
Hank was on the same wavelength, proposing a plan before the small team could even regroup. “Aѕ мυcн aѕ ι нaтe тo pυт тrυѕт ιn yoυr тнeorιeѕ, yoυ’re rιgнт, нe’ѕ jaммιng any ιnғorмaтιon ι тry тo geт on нιм and we need deal ѕoмe daмage ” Tony affirmed with a nod, the thrusters whirred to life, Ant-man was already shrinking down. Leaping after him, propelled forward by the rocket boots he stuck a hand out and claimed the ant sized hero.
He flew daringly toward Ultron, narrowly dodging the beams he seemed to prefer as his main attack. Iron Man made a hard left, he couldn’t get close enough to the drop zone just charging the sentient bot. “clιмв on мy ѕнoυlder; wнen ι вody тap нιм, yoυ jυмp, alrιgнт?” the droning tonality of his voice commanded, lifting a hand slightly to give Hank an advantage. Ultron had already re-positioned himself to suit Tony’s curve, now facing them again. This time he flew low, aiming straight for the waste line. Before meeting his mark he screamed; “ NOW. ” then the chaotic noise of a mangled collision rung out again as Tony threw his shoulder into Ultron’s torso.
"Now I get why Fury said you died while being stupid...." Cable muttered to himself as he watched Stark fly at the android. There were four drones heading for a school bus off to his left. He wouldn't have given it a second thought but he could see faces still trapped inside. A van was pinned against the door and he only had a few seconds to act.
"Thor!" He called back over his shoulder. "Help Stark, I got this!" He dumped the last of the charge to his energy rifles into the two rear drones and hurled the rifles at the remaining two to get their attention away from the bus. They turned and charged at him but Nathan was ready. He drew out his Apocalypse tech guns and ripped into them. The pistols weren't as effective as he'd hoped, certainly wouldn't do any good against Ultron itself, but they still got the job done..... However it didn't prevent him taking a few blasts to the chest. His vest had caught on fire causing him to scramble to rip it off, exposing his infection.
He got over to the bus and tried to push the van out of the way with no luck. He looked up at the kids and then back at Ultron before taking a deep breath and focusing on the van. In his mind he could feel his power slipping in and around the molecules that made up the vehicle's structure as he lifted it up off the ground. With one grand telekinetic push, he hurled the van at Ultron and fell to the ground clutching at his chest. The kids pushed and screamed their way out of the bus as their chaperons tried to keep them all together. One stopped to try and help Cable but he waved her off. He could see the infection spread over to his right shoulder and down to his bicep. If he did that again, he might start to lose his internal organs to the virus.
The Final Battle || Thor, Hank, Tony, Cable
Hank watched in abject fear as Iron Man arrived on the scene. While he should have been relieved, they were still terribly outnumbered. And how was he supposed to help? While Hank had fended off some of the attackers in the last incident, he really preferred not to get violent. He wasn’t that kind of man. Hell, this is why he’d created a robot to help keep the peace.
He laughed to himself. Some peace Ultron was keeping. The man’s eyes widened as a robot knocked aside by a swing of Thor’s hammer stumbled over. The flower box shook and the robot’s sensors fired in all directions. With fear he realized his hiding spot was compromised. His foe raised a hand at the flower box and just as the repulsors were firing up, Hank leapt onto the robots arm and climbed for the head. It readjusted its aim and misfired right through its own cranial circuitry.
As the limp metal body collapsed to the ground, Hank resumed his normal size, exposing himself in the midst of the fray. ”Ultron, stop this! Please,” he cried out, approaching the main hub of action. ”Take me and be done with all this. The only one who has made an error here was me, thinking this would work.”
He knew it wouldn’t work, but it was the only thing he could do- plead. Ultron turned to face him, and the lifeless glowing eyes almost seemed to smirk at him. ”Sentiment will not save you. It is human and it is a sickness that needs to be eliminated. For your weakness I should kill you first, but you must live to see the world you have created. Free from human error." Hank prepared to duck, knowing this might be the end for him.
"I’m sorry. I deserve this." He stood exposed, waiting for judgment from whoever got to him first- the robots, or the Avengers.
Once his attacker had rolled away with little of a head left, Tony resumed the fight. Saving his energy by tossing the bots together and trying to rip at them with his metal hands. Ultron was giving a spiel, hovering over the street. Behind the faceplate he looked up with a disgusted expression. Detracting him from the commotion going on by a flower box not too far off.
Iron Man sent propelled an elbow to the face of one bots, sending it sprawling to the concrete. As he was finishing it of he noticed another voice interject Ultron’s boring dribble. The problem was, he was just as disgusted by this new voice.
" ι don’т тнιnĸ нe reѕpondѕ тo pleaѕe, нanĸ .” he grunted, shoving away yet another robot, it was starting to feel like a sea. Self sacrifice seemed to be Ant-Man’s angle, good riddance. Sadly, Ultron wasn’t going to accept one of the greatest scientist of the century as a take away prize. Tony kicked on the thrusters propelling him out of the fight and toward the sentient bastard bot, whom was raising its arm for an execution of aforementioned scientist. He fired two repulsor beams in succession at Ultron’s arm, hoping to deter the inevitable so maybe Hank could use a little common sense. “тwo agaιnѕт тen тнoυѕand are preттy тerrιвle oddѕ, тecнnologιcal мarvel and god or no, pleaѕe ѕave yoυr pιтy parтy ғor laтer, нanĸ. “
Nathan had been in Nevada for a couple weeks trying to put his mind back together. Having been taken down by Ultron so easily really made a negative impact on his confidence and nerves and training with his father was helping to fix that. That was until he saw the news during one of his meal breaks.
"Scott, I need to get back there." He turned to look at his father across the table.
"Come on Nathan," Scott called back. "Grab your guns and get to the pad. I'll put the coordinates in for the slide."
The armory was loaded with various guns from a few different timelines. He had none of the anti-Ultron weapons from his last timeline but he recognized a few from his home Apocalypse timeline and strapped them to his holsters. Next, he threw a Shi'ar energy cannon on his back and picked up the two rifles he'd brought with him; holding one in each hand.
Stepping on the portal he looked at Cyclops with a grim expression. "You know I fucking hate bodyslides, right?"
"I'll see you on the other side son. Good luck." Scott threw the switch and the image of his father quickly switched to a metallic robot two feet in front of him. Without hesitation, he shot the bot's head off and turned to look at the center of the action. He was happy to see Stark and Thor but Pym was the last person he wanted by his side in this fight.
Out of the corner of his eye Cable could see a drone coming up behind Thor. "ON YOUR SIX!" Taking a charge into the fray, he took aim and poured a stream of energy bolts into the bot.
Parts Unknown
Nathan found himself tonight in the Nevada desert following the directions of a crudely put together X-gene tracking device based on Apocalypse technology. After a few hours of wandering he stopped in front of what looked like an abandoned bunker, but Nathan knew better. He knocked and felt no comfort at the face that greeted him.
"Hey dad...."

Call out my name Call and I came…
Alright Tex, you say you’re from the future, why didn’t you, say, go back in time and kill Pym before he made the damn thing? If the future of the whole wide world is at stake, seems awful sloppy.
That was supposed to be the last resort if everything else I tried failed, but I didn't arrive early enough and the second I started acting the entire timeline started to shift and Ultron was built earlier this time. Would go back again if I could, but the trip was a one shot deal, can't do it again until the machine is built in this timeline.
No offense pal, but people try to blow our stuff up all the time for crazier reasons than yours. Hard to tell the difference.
Yeah well I didn't think walking up to your front door and asking if I could blow up your killer robot would work.
Boy, who coulda seen that one comin’.
I did, tried to tell you....
"Heh, figures." Nathan looked up as the rain started to fall. He had taken a walk to clear his head and was far enough away from his safehouse that he'd be soaked by the time he got back. He had just passed a bar and doubled back to wait out the rain there. Sitting at the bar, he ordered a drink and ignored the bartender's joke about starting early.
"Here's hoping I don't get in a fight this time..." He muttered.

Be careful what you wish for.
You see that robot arm he had? Imagine what I could do with one of those babies.
They wouldn’t want to go through what I did to get this. Trust me.
