It Just Keeps Getting Worse
There was a difference between Matthew commenting on Nathanâs fussy habits and Nathan listing every little thing Matthew had done and putting it on blast. It didnât help that Matthew hadnât realized there were so many things he did that were annoying to Nathan in the first place. There wasnât supposed to be a break of communication between them, especially since the last couple of months had gone relatively smoothly to what theyâd had to deal with before.Â
Matthewâs facial expression mightâve shifted in response, an offended twitch to his eye or a slight sinking of the right side of his mouth, but he otherwise made himself appear unaffected. âFuck you,â he muttered, folding his arms across his chest again. He, at the very least, wasnât going to go through all the damn irritating things Nathan had gotten up to. âIf you hate everything I do, then why donât you just leave then? No oneâs demanding you stick around. Certainly not for my sake. Iâm well enough to survive on my own, thank you.âÂ
Nathan looked up at Matthew, ignoring his textbook for the time being. He wasnât reading it anyway. His whole body seemed to start shaking, and his arms couldnât decide what the best way to hold on to his trashcan was. He had never felt so anxious or fidgety; it was like his body couldnât make sense of itâs surroundings when his brain was so focused on his eminent meltdown.Â
His bottom lip wobbled. âFine,â Nathan agreed, shoving some of his things into a backpack. Most of it was just homework stuff, but he also grabbed his wallet, keys, phone, laptop, and chargers. He had a feeling he wouldnât want to come back to the room any time soon. Nathan felt tears slip down his face as he left the room, and felt like an idiot for letting his emotions show through so easily. He was furious, yes, but mostly just overwhelmed. He wasnât in a position where he could be fighting with anyone right now, he needed to have a comfortable environment, but Matthew hadnât offered that to him, and now he was a wreck. Nate grabbed his jacket and slung his book bag over his shoulder. âIf youâre so happy to be on your own, then have a nice afternoon alone,â Nathan said before stepping out into the hallway.Â
