I had been concerned about the public toilets along the inca trail (it's the little things) & I was reassured by the ones we found on day 1. they do get progressively rougher as you continue but by that time you've ceased caring.

machu picchu is not made up only of the structures on top of these mountains. the inca engineered the entire mountainside to support the construction of the city & deal with water drainage. this part of the peruvian andes receives more than 70 inches of precipitation per year.
