Something that I missed when living in Vegas, let me tell you about it. I'm quite happy being back in this climate. This year, with a little more knowledge on what to expect here.
Oh, for sure! I've never been to Vegas, but I know that it's a lot different on that coast than it is here. We like our fall leaves and cool breezes when it comes to autumn. Has Halloween season been good to you so far?
Dressed in an faded t-shirt and overalls, her light jacket already hung up to the side, Sloan started to settle into the pottery studio. Amongst the walls were so many pieces of Halloween related decor waiting to be painted, and while she fully planned on grabbing a small pumpkin to paint and place on her desk in her office, this moment, early in the morning, was to make an attempt at the pottery wheel. It had been so long since Sloan had practiced anything like this, but it had been something she enjoyed for a really long time. There was something peaceful about it, at least for her. After grabbing the amount of clay she dropped it onto the wheel and started kneading before someone sat down next to her. "Trying your hand at making something too?"
Given that Nari never, ever had a shortage of plants around her house, it made sense to have a lot of vessels for them. Vases, in particular, and so she spent a lot of time at The Wheel, using materials that were good and safe for soils and water and everything else that went into growing something beautiful. But today, she decided to try her hand at making something more spooky for the season. Well, as spooky as a cute ghost could be, anyway. "I am!" she said with a bright smile as she made herself comfortable in the spot next to Sloan. "I'm going to try to make a ghost vase... think... a sheet ghost, but upside down, sort of?" she laughed, realizing that it probably didn't make any sense without the visual, "actually, we'll just see how it turns out, first. What about you?"
As Nari twirled, Tasha giggled and inspected for any stray hay and then gave her friend a thumbs up. "All good and oh same," she brushed off her shoulder, "us girls gotta stick together!" She was a girls girl through and through and believed good girl friends were the best. Nodding she agreed, "Perfect. That works for me! And yes absolutely!" Plus they could get heavy and a bag each would also make it easy to carry and not have to hurt themselves. "Oh yes, and let's hope we find some good ones!"
"Thank you," she said with a laugh, "you're a true pal." And it really was nice to have friends that would look out for you, whether that meant dealing with something little or something big. "Girl power, for sure," offering Natasha her arm as they started down the path between the apple trees, she swayed gently to pick up one of the baskets, and handed one to her friend. "I hope so. I don't want to take home any wormy apples. I know it happens now and then, you can't avoid it in nature, but⦠I'd really prefer to avoid it, you know? At least when you bake with apples, you tend to cut them open, so you see them before you take a chomp out of them!"

"Of course," she returned the smile to Nari, before nodding in agreement. "I kind of was overthinking it a bit, so I thought this would be the perfect time to decide if I want to do something similar or more fun, y'know?" She glanced at the sheets, her lips pursed. She was someone who took the Halloween season in stride, so it would be on brand for her, but she didn't want anything too out of the ordinary that would require explanation. She supposed a happy medium would be something she'd be happy in the long run with. "Exactly! I was thinking maybe on my arm, or my ankle? So not as noticeable with my scrubs," though she wouldn't mind showing it off. "Have your eyes caught any of these? Maybe a cute ghost or some bats?
"I get you -- otherwise, you're going to spend days, weeks, months trying to figure out what you want to get," and that wasn't really going to help the situation at all. Sometimes, it was best to take advantage of a situation where you could just get the tattoo, look back, and laugh at it. That was the goal. And besides, Nari had yet to get a tattoo at Mods that she didn't love, so at least she knew that the quality would be great. "Most of mine are like that -- little things I can tuck away, no one really sees them. Not that people really care if their florist or their pilates instructor has tattoos," she laughed, shaking her head. People were a little more accepting these days, anyway, but there was nothing wrong with wanting to make sure that you kept things tucked away, too. "So, this little ghost right here," she pointed to the small shape, a little cute ghost that was holding onto a wilting flower, "I feel like this sort of fits, right? Flower and all? Thinking maybe him, somewhere quirky like⦠the back of my arm or something."
There's something about fall, specifically. Makes it my favorite time of year. That sort of proper fall that I was looking forward to, coming back to the east coast.
I can understand it! When you live in a town like this, there's something a little extra special about it, too. We get pretty leaves and cool evenings and those crisp mornings that kind of invigorate you when you step out the door.
No one can capture the attitude we bring to things because we are the divas, the ones to watch out for, for better or for worse. I hear being bitter can actually be detrimental to your overall long term happiness, and only you end up hurting.
That's very true! People see us coming and just sort of know that they need to watch out for whatever it is that we're doing. It really can! And when your happiness is suffering, then your health is suffering, too. Which means that I don't want to be any more bitter than I have to be. And of course, every now and then, we're allowed to be a tiny bit bitter⦠right?
"Limited mobility would be a pain too" Harley grinned. They went hard at the gym, so something like this would definitely get in the way. And that was assuming the long, thin strands of costume didn't get caught in anything like a treadmill or barbell set. "I mostly work from home...I'm already the most fashionable person by default!"
Harley glanced around at the mention of snacks, wondering what else there was to eat. They weren't really feeling hungry, but it would be good to scope out for later. "I will do the macarena with you when it comes up! It's anything that isn't choreographed that I'm less sure about - except Cha Cha slide. Trying to do that without knowing what the directions are is a mess!"
"Okay, fair," Nari let out a laugh when Harley explained that they worked from home, that there weren't a lot of people to compete with. Even if true, she was sure that they could still take home the prize, just by existing. After all, one didn't come to a gala in such an avant garde ensemble if they weren't at least a little fashion forward.
"You got it," she broke into a grin, gesturing towards the dance floor, "the second that I hear that music start, I'll come get you, you won't be able to miss it. We'll show everyone how it's done! And if I have to..." her grin grew a little bit, "I'll request the Cha Cha Slide, too."

"In theory, it is easier, but when you see all the options in front of you, it definitely makes you second-guess." Chelly's pondering look must have been easy to spot on her face, glad that she was joined in being a bit indecisive in the options. Glancing at the small tattoo on the other's wrist, Chelly let out a laugh. "It's pretty," she admired it with a smile on her lips. "Ironically enough, I have something similar and was wondering if I should do the same," moving her ponytail to the side to show off the lotus flower on the back of her neck. "But it would be kind of fun to do something different-" not anything too over the top, but a bit out of the box. Pointing to the design she was drawn to, she tilted her head as if in thought. "I was thinking maybe a web heart?"
"I'm so glad that you get me," Nari let out a laugh, letting her eyes move over the options that were laid out in front of her again. She could go with something a little more spooky, something that fit in with the whole Halloween theme, but... what if she grew to hate it? But then again, tattoos were meant to tell a story, maybe it would actually just end up being funny. "Thanks!" she brightened instantly, and then looked in to see the lotus on the back of Chelly's neck, grinning, "oh, it's so cute! So you sort of get me, then, not knowing if you want to go with the aesthetic or against it," a small pout formed on her lips as she tapped her nail against the counter, leaning to see what Chelly was pointing out. "I like that! Kind of best of both worlds. A little spooky, a little cute? Where are you thinking of getting it?"
"Oh absolutely," she smiled, memories flooding in of her childhood dogs that had been in her life. Ones that definitely made it fun growing up, a dog and four brothers made for some fun times. "Oh gosh no!" She giggled, putting a hand to her face to hide her red cheeks, and looked over her shoulder at her backside. "Thank you, and turn around," gesturing for Nari to do the same, "you're all set too. Free of hay of any kind. Yes let's go! How many bags are we planning today? One each? Two?"
Doing a quick spin as Natasha told her to spin around, Nari let out a laugh as she steadied herself and brushed off her hands. "Thanks! Glad I won't be embarrassing myself today." At least, not in terms of being covered in hay, anyway. The rest was still up for debate. "I don't want to overdo it... how about one each? That should give us plenty to bake together and still take some home, too!" After all, apples that weren't being used were just going to go bad and, well... that wasn't really any good, was it? "And then we can be a little more picky about which apples we find, too."
Ooh, that sounds delicious! I might have to drop by and give it a try. It's probably my favorite part of this season. The fashion, and the food. I am hoping that we get more real, good and proper fall, for some time, before winter hits.
Fashion and food are pretty much my favorite parts of any season, so I can get behind this idea! Sometimes we just want to look cute while we eat good food, you know? I hope so, too! Even if it's not as colorful, a nice cool down and a breeze would be great.
"I thought that if I got here and saw the sheet of tattoos to choose from, it'd be an easy decision, you know?" Nari said out loud, partially to no one, definitely to the person who seemed to be trying to make the same decision next to her. "But instead I find myself stuck on something a little spooky, or something a little cute, but," she rolled up her sleeve to show off a small flower tattoo on her wrist, "most of my tattoos loo like this, so I should probably stick with cute... right?" And she wished she sounded a little more sure of herself when she said it, but that wasn't going to happen. "What about you, any idea about which one you might go with?"
After weeks of deliberation and "should we?", Nari has dressed up as Glinda the Good Witch to go with Arturo's Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. The costume's a bit much, but this is Nari, and she will probably be wearing it numerous times through the Halloween fun!

Well, I try to do a good job of sourcing my rocks, if nothing else, and then selling high quality ones. It just feels like fall is later and shorter each year, which is sort of horrifying. If the forests don't provide the color, you must improvise, right?
Which you can see the moment that you walk into your shop. I've been in a few in my life, and so many have that... fake vibes, overly done up, makes you feel like a movie set kind of thing? I always feel at ease and comfy in yours, and like you know what you're talking about, too. It does, we have such long, dry, hot summers, and then next thing you know, snow. Not that I'm saying I'm ready for snow!
I would always feed you, unless I was completely out of food myself, but that's highly unlikely to happen. I have one of the best stocked kitchens in this town. I mean, they wouldn't have been around for so long if they didn't taste at least a little bit good, after all.
You're a good pal! And I'd do my very best to feed you, too, even if... I'm not nearly as good at cooking as you. But I am pretty good at making sure that I have food in the freezer to thaw out! That's also true. I think that's the best part of those staples -- they're staples because they're good. Don't argue it.
