What he's not prepared for, however, is seeing Thompson swat Peggy's hand away from his face. He's about to barge into the office, because how dare Thompson put his hands on her, when he freezes. Thompson has carried through the movement of swatting Peggy's hand away to grabbing her by the back of the neck and kissing her. Fiercely.

Daniel can't move. He can't think. He can't breathe.

And when Peggy's hand comes up to cup the back of Thompson's head and she kisses him back, his heart drops.

It isn't until Thompson walks Peggy back, stopping when her legs hit the desk, grabs her by the thighs, and sets her on top of it, that Daniel is able to wrench his eyes away.

Chief Thompson's voice cuts through the din of disbelief that Daniel's found himself in. "Sousa, either get in here or go home but shut that damn door."

Daniel feels like he's been cemented in place.

There's an uncharacteristic giggle from Peggy before she gently calls out his name. "Daniel?"

He finally moves, his body deciding for him what to do. He slides in through the doorway and pulls the door shut behind him. He leans against it and lets out a disbelieving sigh.

"The wall can hold itself up. Are you coming over here or not?" Thompson's voice cuts through the din.

"Is this really happening?," Daniel murmurs to himself.

"Daniel," Peggy says softly. "Come here." She reaches a hand out toward him. He again moves unbidden, one step at a time, until his face is in her hand.

She's looking at him so earnestly that he can't bear it. His gaze drifts down over her and to where her skirt has been bunched up over her thighs. He tears his eyes away from the image of Jack's hand on her leg.

Peggy pushes up on his chin, forcing him to look back at her. There's a silent question in her eyes and he nods. Slowly. He leans toward her and she meets him with a press of her lips to his. It's awkward. Jack's still between her knees and Daniel's off to Peggy's side, but it works. If he doesn't think about Jack behind him.

He moves his free hand up and between the three of them, being careful not to brush against Jack and firmly pull him out of this moment, to cup Peggy's face. He lets himself focus on kissing Peggy, something he's refused to let himself imagine.

Their lips move slowly, tentatively, as they find the pace that works for them. He can't lose himself in it like he'd like to, with keeping his balance and Jack at his back constantly in his thoughts.

But then Jack's hand is on his waist. Daniel jumps and pulls away from Peggy.

"Relax," Jack tells him firmly. It's an order but there's a decidedly un-Jack gentleness to the demand.

Daniel turns to face him. Jack nods wordlessly toward Peggy. Carry on.

Peggy gently caresses Daniel's cheek and turns him back toward her. She pulls him into another kiss. Daniel's hand returns to her face.
