“Obviously but I only knew he gave me the wrong drink after tasting it.”

“That’s, um... that’s too bad, then?”

I literally can not be interested in something ‘just a little bit’, it either consumes my entire being or I don’t care at all. But there’s no in between, and I don’t think I’ll ever learn to pick grey when asked to decide between black and white.

“I guess that depends on your definition of fun. Not the party type? What type are you then?”

“The type that cooks. And watches after kids. So... a mother without any children, maybe?”

“It’s the drink that the bartender gave me.”

“Can’t you ask him to give you something else?”

“I understand the orders, but the recopies – wouldn’t there be like a binder or something for you to always look at? Wouldn’t it be impossible to remember twenty plus items to cook? That would be insane. Oh no, the numbers – I don’t get why people would want to deal with numbers. It would be my dreams in high school, Math haunted me.” 

“Probably. Maybe? I don’t know. But it would save a lot of time if the most common things, you could remember how to make. And the cooking temperatures and all of that. I’d rather rely on my own knowledge than any book, you know? --- I’m weird. Tell me about it. Math is the worst subject, and I’m not sure anyone fully understands it when you get into algebra and all of that, there are just people who are better at guessing than some.”

“I don’t blame it. It’s probably overheating during the day and it’s just ready to give up. I’m surprised you aren’t turned into a zombie during the day.”

“It’s okay, though, if I ever want to work in a restaurant, I have to keep my memory as sharp as I can. Otherwise, I’ll never be able to remember orders and recipes. It could be worse, though. Can you imagine being one of those people who process numbers or something like that? I would go insane just having to remember all of that. It would just all blend together in my mind. They would be everywhere, numbers popping up in your dreams... no, that would be crazy... terrible.”

“Alright alright–stop.” She said, shaking her head. “That just makes me really hungry and my mouth water.” She laughed.

“I figured. Do you see why I always have to keep food next to me when I’m looking over things and studying? If not, I stay hungry.”

“I don’t care what kind it is.”

“Okay. So the first recipe is, rosemary crusted lamb chops. Ingredients, one pound of lamb chops. Two tablespoons of minced fresh rosemary, two teaspoons of salt. One teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper, one garlic clove, minced. Four tablespoons of olive oil, divided. In a small bowl, mix the rosemary, salt, pepper, garlic and two tablespoons of olive oil together. Coat the lamb chops with the mixture, massaging it into the meat. If you are working with double rib chops, cover and let stand at room temperature for thirty to forty five minutes. --- You’re bored, aren’t you?”

“I don’t know if people would call that a party trick but it would be interesting nevertheless.”

“Yeah, I’m not exactly the party type, but I think I know enough to know that burning down the building would probably take away from the fun.”

“How are you able to sleep at night with all of that in your head?”

“Sleep is for weaklings.” After a second, Cora laughed, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “No, I manage. Having so much in your head is exhausting. I think by the time night comes, my brain decides to shut down on me.”

“Then why drink it?”

“What are we waiting for..come on.”

“Way ahead of you, pal.”
