She wasn’t sure how long it’d been—time tended to blend together when you were trapped in a room without windows and no connection to the outside world—but Y/N was certain it’d been more than a few days. 

Her mother had been her most frequent visitor and part of her wished that she had been left in solitary confinement instead; there was only so much of the woman and her shrill voice that Y/N could stand. She wasn’t surprised that her brother scarcely made an appearance and her father was non-existent. It didn’t really matter much to her—they’d never been close anyways.

Y/N sighed, curled in the chair that sat in the corner of the room with a book balanced on her thigh—it was there as a distraction, not out of enjoyment—and stared at the wall opposite her. She could make out the faint pencil drawings that she’d made when she was younger, lines of rebellion that were easily hid with low lights and erasers. It was funny how everything had come full circle, that her story ended in the same place it began. 

She was tired; they’d gotten rid of her child the first week she’d been here—not that she’d necessarily wanted one, but Y/N would rather have one than let them make that choice for her—and it had been exhausting listening to the religious narrative that they’d been trying to nail into her head for however long she’d been here. Some days she felt as if she hadn’t ever lived a life outside of this house, as if she’d never left and it had all been some kind of fantastical dream. 

There was some kind of commotion outside and Y/N shut the book that was balanced on her leg, standing from the chair and placing it where she had been sitting. A loud bang came from the hallway—not a gun, but rather the sound of a body being thrown into something—and she picked up the closest object: a candelabra.

Footsteps neared her door and the doorknob turned. She threw the metal as soon as the wood opened,

“Could you not try to decapitate me as soon as we see each other again.”

“Yoongi?” Y/N stared at the once black-haired man—he had gone blonde in the time she’d been gone—with a sense of disbelief,

“Yes.” He quickly looked her over before speaking again, concern crossing his features. She knew she looked horrible, but her appearance was the least of Y/N’s worries, “We need to go.” She nodded, following behind him as he turned and headed down the hallway. 

It was odd being outside of the four walls of her room, but she pushed the thought aside in order to focus on getting as much distance between her and the house as possible. She stepped over the body that she assumed had made the thump earlier, failing to miss the splatter of blood that was on the floor. 

The two of them made their way through the multiple hallways and stairwells of the house—it was a maze, not a house—and Y/N couldn’t help but wonder why Yoongi didn’t just zap them out of the building,

“Your parents have some kind of weird mojo around this place.” He said quietly, as if reading her thoughts, “Trying to leave like I normally would risks us landing in the middle of nowhere.”

“The warding can be turned off.” She wasn’t sure Yoongi heard her over the loudness of her heartbeat, “There’s a room on this floor.” He looked over his shoulder at her before focusing ahead,

“Too dangerous.” His voice was quieter than before, as if he were speaking to himself, “I promised Hoseok I wouldn’t take any risks with this.”

“Seok’s here?” Y/N stopped abruptly and Yoongi kept walking for a moment before stopping at looking back at her. He sighed,

“Yes. Now let’s go.” He grabbed her wrist gently, his fingers cold around her skin, “We don’t have much time.” 

The two of them hurried down another flight of stairs, making their way through the main floor of the house before Yoongi led them down into the cellar. Y/N was surprised that they hadn’t been stopped yet—her parents had always prided themselves on their ‘protection from sins’—and she frowned slightly. 

It was cold and dim in the lowest level and Y/N was grateful that Yoongi could see in this lighting, that he knew where they were going. There was a small hole in the wall—she assumed it had been his entrance—and they headed across the room in silence,

“We tried to save you, Y/N,” her mother’s voice came from behind them and they froze as something embedded itself into the wall next to the opening, “but I guess you really are too far gone.” Yoongi moved to deal with the woman, but Y/N put a hand on his wrist to stop him,

“This is my past.” She spoke quietly, not taking her eyes off the woman that had once been her mother, “I’ll take care of it.” Her eyes flicked to his and he nodded after a moment. She picked up a stone that had come from the wall, clutching it in her hand as her mother neared,

“It seems fitting that you die like the abominations you love so much.” The woman was swaying slightly, bleeding from a cut in her forehead, and Y/N could only see rage in her face as she neared. 

Clearly not expecting any kind of fight from her child, she was caught off guard when Y/N kicked up the rubble on the ground into her face. As her mother tried to remove the debris from her eyes, Y/N hurled the stone in her hand at the women—she fell to the floor and her knife clattered on the stone next to her. Y/N made her way over, picking up the knife as she moved, and knelt over her mother,

“You told me to kill monsters.” One hand was placed around the woman’s throat to keep her on the ground as the other tensed slightly above her body, “You never specified who those monsters were.” The metal blade plunged into her mother’s stomach, blood spraying onto Y/N’s arms as she pulled it out and stabbed the woman a second time—she twisted the knife before pulling it out and tossing it across the room. Her mother stared at her with an unnatural smile stretched across her face until her eyes became unfocused and her body went limp.

Yoongi was silent as he guided her through the opening, following after her. The two of them walked for a minute, crouching in order to make their way through, before Y/N spoke, 

“How did you get in here?” She could feel Yoongi’s eyes on the back of her head—whether it was due to her question or her earlier actions, she didn’t know,

“Namjoon.” She let out a quiet ‘ah’ in response—of course it was Namjoon, Y/N didn’t know why she’d expected otherwise. The ground crunched under their steps and Y/N was painfully aware of her bare feet, “It was a full team effort, he just mapped it all out.” The two of them fell into silence again. Yoongi tugged on her wrist shortly after and she looked back at him, despite being unable to really make him out, “We’re far enough out that I can get us out.” He held out his hand and she hesitated,

“I’m not gonna grow another head after this, right?” Yoongi let out a quiet laugh and Y/N smiled briefly before the corners of her mouth turned downwards slightly. She swallowed, “Can we keep this between us? What happened with my mom.” Yoongi was silent for a moment and she felt his eyes on her again; it was as if he was looking into her soul instead of at her, 

“Yes.” Y/N could hear the slight smile as he spoke, “I’m notorious for keeping secrets, you know.” The situation was anything but humorous, yet Y/N couldn’t help the quiet laugh she let out at his words.

“Thank you, Yoongi.” She wrapped her hand around his waiting one and felt a tug before being blinded by sunlight. 

There was grass under her palms and she realized that she had fallen onto her hands and knees. Someone was talking to her, their fingertips touching her face, but it felt as if she were underwater—she could make out people standing off to the side, just as hazy as the words overhead. It was almost as if she were outside of her body and Y/N felt the pressure in her chest build, about to burst.

Just as quickly as it came it was gone, and everything snapped back into focus,

“—wouldn’t kill her!” Y/N could smell the dew on the grass under her as she sucked in a breath,

“She’s fine, Hoseok.” She brought her eyes up to glance at Yoongi before shifting them towards the man crouched in front of her. He moved his gaze away from Yoongi, brow furrowed in anger and concentration, and Y/N smiled at him,

“Hi, Seok.” His frown immediately disappeared and he looked at her for a moment, palms cupping the sides of her face, before leaning in to kiss her. She was covered in grime and sweat and probably blood, but Y/N had never felt more clean than in that moment—her past couldn’t touch her now.
