The flames around your bare feet had to be searingly hot, but they didn’t hurt you, it didn’t even singe or dirty the white you wore.

It wasn’t that he was doing it on purpose, it just.. happened. 

It had become a habit of Kageyama to start playing with Y/N’s hair. He didn’t know how and why it started, but he found himself with his hands or fingers softly stroking through her hair every time they were together. He just loved it how soft it felt. It sort of calmed him in a way that he couldn’t describe. 

He normally didn’t mind doing it at all. Whether they were in public or at home he would just do it. But this time it was a little different. He bought Y/N with him to meet the team for the first time. 

“So you think that if we put Hinata in the front first when we play against Nekoma, we have a higher chance of scoring?” Kageyama raised an eyebrow and Daichi nodded at his question. 

Y/N had been talking to Suga for a while but she came back to Kageyama after he left to change his clothes. She was just standing on front of him playing with her phone as he was talking to Daichi. It didn’t surprise her when she felt Kageyama his hands suddenly started braiding her hair. She grinned but didn’t say anything as she noticed Daichi his confused expression. 

Kageyama however, didn’t seem to notice what he was doing. 

It went on like that for a couple more minutes. He was just talking about strategies with Daichi as he kept playing with her hair. Daichi his eyes wandered off a couple times but the taller boy noticed nothing. 

Even Hinata, Nishinoya and Tanaka had now joined the little group and kept snickering about Kageyama. 

“He doesn’t know he’s doing it does he?” asked Noya to his friends. 

“He never does” Y/N answered with a small laugh. “It just happens. Give him some time and he will blush like crazy when he notices.”

“You’re sneaky Y/N, I like it” laughed Tanaka. 

The girl shrugged her shoulders and laughed as answer, turning her attention to her phone again. 

Again, minutes passed as now half of the team has joined the conversation. Kageyama had stopped playing with her hair for a while, but he eventually started again. 

“Tobio?” Y/N asked with a sweet tone in her voice as she looked up at him. “I’m kinda thirsty do you have something to drink?”

“There’s a water bottle in my bag over there, you can have it if you want” he answered and pointed at where his bag was lying. 

“Thank you!” she left with a little skip in her steps and winked back at the team when she saw Kageyama stiffen. 

He realized that he had been playing with her hair this whole time.
