Ariana knew she should have gone home an hour ago. Really she had, but then a new book on the library shelf had caught her attention and before she knew it she was fully engrossed, turning pages and making notes on the most intriguing sections.
Now, she was hurrying home, walking as fast as she could. The streetlights were glowing, most of the shops had already closed for the evening and the air had that quie,t late - night feeling that made everything seem softer.
She had her bag hanging off one shoulder and a stack of library books pressed against her chest, the top book still open. She was so busy trying to finish a reading a section as she walked that she nearly walked straight into someone.
"Oh my god! I am so sorry!" she exclaimed, stumbling back as an embarrassed laught left her lips.
"I swear I'm not usually a danger to the public."

Namaari was heading home, gym bag slung over her shoulder, her metal water bottle in one hand and keys in the other. She hadn't taken her car this time since it was in the shop, but she always carried her keys as a force of habit. Redwood Hollow was safe enough, during the day, but weird things had been happening lately. Besides, she didn't mind walking, when the weather was decent. She'd heard the footsteps behind her, and glanced over her shoulder casually. Nothing to worry about, it seemed. That was, until the girl nearly collided with her.
Jumping back a bit as she turned around, Namaari opened her mouth to say something, but she spoke first. It stunned her, honestly, her brows shooting upward. The apology made her chuckle, but not in a funny way, more of an awkward and unsure response to a situation, kind of way. "Not as sorry as you would have been bumping into this." Holding up the water bottle and knocking on it, Namaari realized what that might have sounded like, and tilted her head to the side. "That was uhβ just a joke."
"Well, that makes one of us." Jesus... can't you be normal for once? She chastised herself. "Must be something pretty interesting, huh?" Namaari asked, gesturing to the book.
