as you may or may not know, I’m not a “guitar player” by any means, and until recently I could barely even say I “play guitar.”  I’m trying to practice my instruments more consistently now, to get some sort of progress down.  Anyway, so here’s a bad cover of Start a War by The National.  

There are some songs where you hear an alternate version, or demo, or live performance, and you just think “man, this is better than the studio version, honestly”

I recently rediscovered the remains of a project I had started in 2012, which I once thought was completely lost on an old, broken hard drive somewhere. What persists intact is seven (very) rough cut tracks which represent about one third of what the entire album was meant to be. It was going to be called A Room Like a City. I’m calling this recovered collection A City Revived.

Luckily, the best of that old project had already survived–I salvaged the themes and ideas I could remember and grew them into far stronger tracks, some of which you’ve heard and some of which are forthcoming. For that reason, I’m holding back half of this collection until after I release my actual polished album in a few weeks. I think it’s more interesting to hear where a solid track came from than to anticipate where a lousy one will lead.
